Has it been confirmed anywhere that Doucoure is re-classifying to the 2017 class? Team could be pretty interesting if he does.

PG: FR Geo Baker, JR Souf Mensah
SG: JR Corey Sanders, SR Nigel Johnson, SR Mike Williams
SF: SO Eugene Omoruyi, JR Jonathan Laurent, SO Issa Thiam
PF: SR Deshawn Freeman, SR Candido Sa
C: FR Mamadou Doucoure, JR Shaq Doorson, JR Ibrahima Diallo

Has Doucoure officially declared for 2017? Haven't heard anything about it other then rumors here.

Where is the scorer at the small forward position?A 3 point shooter is a must for next season and would like at least two new additions to the squad.

Hard to rely on Freshman unless they are Corey Sanders caliber. Have to hope that Doorson becomes at least Gettys 2.0, Mike & Thiam become deadly, and Corey takes it up another level.

The scholarships don't exist. We will have lots free for 2018, though.
Scholarships might exist at the end of the season with transfers. The small forward position must be addressed because Rutgers is playing 5 against 4 in most games because of the lack of scoring.

While it's great to look ahead to next year let's also sit back and enjoy the rest of the season and see how this team builds off yesterday's road win.

Lots of rumors of bullock being out which means potential for additional scholarship. I think Thiam will develop by adding size and get more confidence after playing a full season. What we need is Laurent to gain back his confidence and develop a mid range shot. He adds defense and rebounds hard. The post will be the key as with Gettys being one and done we need scoring from the 5 spot. Hopefully either Shaq or Diallo develops some post game.

Yes, they certainly might. If Mamadou is reclassifying that puts us in a -1 situation so I think it's ambitious to think we'd be able to add others.

No idea, though. I certainly agree that the 3 spot is absolutely killing us.

I checked the website. It looks like we have 12 scholarships right now and we are allowed to give 13. We have two players signed for next year and one departure (Gettys) for sure.

Just keep playing tough, gritty defense like old time hockey. I love this throw back defense we play. It's a lost art and we're just rediscovering it here on the banks. Nothing rings better to the ears then when an opposing coach says, "that's one helluva a defense they play". I just feel when our defense is on we can stay in any game.

The staff is obviously aware of the gaps in the roster and like a LOT of schools around the country, are looking at 5th year players....we are looking at 5th year kids and likely going up against Seton Hall, California, St. Mary's, Florida etc and a host of other B1G schools for a pretty lengthy list (over 100 players) that have the flexibility to graduate this May and then move to the school of their choice for their last season.

It's the most intriguing item that schools looking for talent can find and it's much more productive than JUCO, because it's a one year rental, that likely gets plugged into your Top 7-8 man rotation....we didn't land Eugene Omoyuri and CJ Gettys until very late in August....different situation because the staff was just getting started, but one freshman and another 5th year kid both factoring into RU's top 8-9 man rotation.

The other factor is someone like Nigel Johnson could stay for his last year here at RU but other players have had three schools on their playing resume and left for their last season elsewhere if they graduated by the end of their 4th year. The coaches all know what players redshirted because of injury earlier in their career or who sat out a season via transfer etc..... So while we are thinking about Doucoure staying in 2018 or not, a lot depends on whether RU lands another Gettys type of big for another one-year rental.

If you land another 5th year center that can fill in for Gettys minutes, you can keep Doucoure as a 2018 recruit and hope he's part of an incoming class with a Naz Reid etc....OR if you don't have the 5th year big man option, you can bring Doucoure in for 2017, since many seem to speculate, he has the option to reclassify back to 2017..

It's really best to not overthink this, the very little I've heard about how many players the staff has on the recruiting radar, gives me confidence that they have it covered completely. The staff also has Geo Baker arriving as the 4th guard with Sanders, Williams and Nigel Johnson, which will really balance things out next year.

There are also a LOT of guards that have a potential 5th year and can help programs needing to fill in gaps....Seton Hall has landed in back to back years, two starting guards in Derrick Gordon and Madison Jones....sometimes they aren't averaging 14-15 PPG with 40% 3 point shooting, but can play defense, avoid turnovers etc....

RU will get this roster adjusted as we move forward, it won't be for lack of effort or awareness on the gaps needing to be filled/patched up.

A juco or 5th year kid who scores a lot should be very attracted to our team with the roster we have. It's been a long time since we could say that but this is a nice spot for a scorer.

We all know what we need for next year on the roster

There is always players transferring in and out ....heck...and this all speculation ....while I'm sure most, if not all, of the this year's returning roster will be returning for 2017-2018..other than mike Williams, I don't see any player not having a potential reason why every other player might want to leave early this year.

As examples

Sanders could turn pro
Freeman could turn pro or chose a fifth year elsewhere
Johnson could chose a fifth year elsewhere
One or two of diallo , Sa, or doorson could leave for playing time elsewhere if they think doucoure comes in and take 25-28 mpg as a frosh
One of two of Laurent, thiam, oncychani figure they become the odd guy out and transfer for playing time
Bullock never thinks he makes the court and transfers to s smaller school

Kids want to play and I'm ...with no inside info and all speculation ...I'm sure a couple of these scsnairos play out or others ones unknown and we have ships to give in the spring

Let it play out fellas ...we have a real staff and coach managing this

Geo Baker is a shooting guard.

Souf will add as long as he can be taught. From what I see, he seems like a high character individual who will take advantage of big ten coaching.

I have not read anything of Doucoure reclassifying. By the looks of it, he does seem to be more of a forward.

Sanders continues to play point because it is best for his development and hope at the next level.

Overall, I expect the team to be 3-4 wins better next year.

Onto this year.

That lineup makes Williams a 5 minute per game player. I think its going to be alot more PG Sanders SG Williams and Souf and Geo will will be watching the game more than playing in the game.

THIS ^ Scarlet Shack. I would be surprised Sander doesn't leave. As noted in his documentary while he was in high school he said his plan at Rutgers was 2 years and go pro.

But I think he has matured quite a bit since arriving at RU. The NBA is not likely an option so pro would be overseas. If he continues to develop at PG, the NBA might become an option after his junior year. But you never know.

If we know who is in and who is out in April we will be fine no matter who leaves.

If I am a 5th year guy I think I am looking for playing time AND/OR a shot to play in the NCAA tournament. We will at least offer 1 of those 2 if any of our guards leave.

Without saying much more, as this is all speculation, but I know education was big for Sanders family when he applied here. Overseas can be rough, especially without a support system.

Overseas for the majority of players will never be what the NBA is. Sanders with two more years could potentially be a back up guard, and get minutes. All while staying stateside.

Rutgers has put him front and center. He is a fantastic kid that has been representing well.

Doubt it?Everyone also doubted Freeman. I try to not judge someone elses potential. That is up to them, not us.

Sanders leaving after this season might be based on how willing he is to play overseas and the type of salary his advisers tell him he'll probably receive.
Also if he thinks that playing overseas will boost his draft stock just as much oe better than if he plays one more year at Rutgers.
Right now he is showing he can play, but the NBA might not look at him as 1st round material yet.

Right now Corey Sanders and the NBA shouldn't be in the same sentence. Drastically improve his vision, shooting, and left hand and we can begin any discussion.

Not to mention his free throws and his A/T ratio. His only hope at the league is as a PG, given his height. Right now he getting 1.2 assists for every turnover, which isn't going to cut it... especially while shooting just 63% from the line, among other areas that need improvement.

If Sanders leaves, it'll be overseas... which makes me think he'll stay.

Sanders is not going to play basketball oversees. He's not going to continue his rap career in Turkey or China.

Regardless of whose faces are on the roster next year,,,I trust that coach P knows our needs and WILL address them if at all possible.

Even if just ONE new face contributes at a high level..we will be better.

I love CJ & he will be missed but replacing 7.8pts & 4.9 REBs a game isnt that TALL an order. He DOES hustle often....but fact is he will be gone...

we need a BIG slasher, hustler, jumper...
a Wisc HAPP style player.....

Of course not right now. In the future, theres a shot.

NBA highly values athleticism. After four years, possibility.

I agree, but that doesn't mean he won't jump if a team is willing to draft him. My fear is that he takes the Erick Barkley route. Bolts college after his sophomore season for a 27-game NBA career.

I suspect Sanders will test the NBA waters after the season, and hopefully gets the constructive feedback and comes back, believing in this team and coaches--a win-win. That said, I think the JUCO PG is a hedge to Sanders possibly leaving. and his backup for 7-10 minutes a game if Sanders hopefully stays.

We need guys who can put the ball through the hoop. Ideally a 6'4"-6'6" wing--the perfect guy actually apparently did look at RU, but didn't come here (Charles Cooke who transferred from JMU to Dayton). I wouldn't be surprised if we also went the transfer route, even if it meant a guy sitting out next year, should more 'ships open up.

I like Thiam, Laurent, Eugene--hope they all stay...though Eugene and Laurent appear to play simliar--Eugene appears to have more "upside"--they are small "4s" who can be valuable...

Is there a chance that Mamadou Doucoure reclassifies as a SR? I thought he was a 2018 recruit.

I think the big guy will be missed more than you think and his scoring and rebounding will be harder to replace than you think – this is because the three guys that we have on the bench now who can play the post can only shoot about 27% in Big 10 play and barely more than that from the foul line. And that shooting percentage paints a rosier picture than the reality when you consider the number of passes that are mishandled in the post. Their rebounding per minute numbers are better, but not that strong. On defense, they block a few shots, but are not particularly strong otherwise. So where is production from the five spot going to come from next year? Unless the 2018 recruit reclassifies, CJ's numbers will be hard to replace, modest as they might be.
