Hope Micah's mother is doing better. SJV, led by Micah and the defensive line, thwarted a goal line stand by Middletown South to win the game.

The tears were rolling down Micah Clark’s cheeks as his St. John Vianney teammates move in, one-by-one, to embrace him as the emotions of the day began to sink in.

For Clark, the massive lineman headed for Rutgers next year, it began with a noon phone call from his mother, Lorraine Beaty, who was preparing for her fourth back surgery later Friday afternoon at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

``That whole time I was thinking of my mom,’’ said Clark of the goal-line stand, after Middletown South’s Maxx Imcho returned an interception to the 4-yard-line with 2:51 to play. `` `If I give up on this play what would my mom think? If I give up on the next play what would my mom think?’ And I just kept that mentality in my head, that I have to blow the center up. That’s my job. If I get blown back, that’s the game."

`I really had to focus on the field, knowing that my mother was in the hospital,’’ Clark said. ``And knowing I couldn’t think of anything else and knowing the rah-rah girls she is she wouldn’t want me thinking about her in the hospital. She would want me to do my thing on the field and that’s what I did. I just kept everyone in the right direction, `come on boys, we’ve got this.’ ‘’
