Hearing this is the case. Strange. Isn't he supposed to be practicing with his new team?

I'm not surprised....there aren't too many players that don't miss RU when they are no longer part of the campus scene (friends, contacts, ladies etc.).....when you spend almost 2 years of your young life at a cool place like RU, a visit for a couple of days isn't uncommon....plus UVA maybe isn't in session now and workouts are certainly coming up, so perhaps it's a last hurrah (kinda like end of summer before school really starts with practice etc)

Some tweets were mentioning other former players here for this big weekend (obviously the 2018 kids all on their official visits as well).

Plus if you are a Nigel Johnson, perhaps a curiousity about what is being built here and seeing what the players are doing here as well. Nigel helped late last year with some big shots and baskets to help RU turn the corner as a program....without a few of those baskets and that victory over Ohio State, perhaps there isn't as much momentum into the recruiting for 2018 etc....

I just came back from Midnight Madness and not only was Nigel there but he was wearing his RU Jersey. I am not kidding. Quite odd to say the least. Saw him chatting with a few players but none of the coaches - let alone Coach Pikiell. Just wondering if he has some regrets about his decision as I really don't see Nigel flourishing in how Coach Bennett plays offense and focuses in on tough defense.

UVa is off on Monday...many of their students made a long weekend out of it.

Maybe that's why?

It’s probably pretty clear. Closer friends are still here at Rutgers, but you can’t argue Virginia is the bigger name brand at the moment no matter how promising our rebuild looks. He went for the name brand and the fact that his home state is Virginia.

When I was in line to enter the RAC Nigel was outside with Corey. A short time later he was hanging near the basket by section 118 and was constantly talking to our players. Somehow I think he really misses being at RU. I could be wrong but I also agree with BigEastPhil in that he might have a difficult time fitting into Bennett's system.

It's just weird. You show up in your Jersey to a team you just transferred from??

Maybe just shows how college bball is a business for these kids. When I played beer pong in my 20s I didn't talk to my friends on the other teams until the games were over

Nigel's big reason for leaving was wanting to play in the postseason. Will also be closer to home.

Believe he got along very well with the team, especially Corey. Think it's a testament to what Pikiell is building that Nigel would want to spend some time with his old teammates.

Reminds me when Jason Williams showed up ,ie,Duke All American.

Just curious how these two situations are in anyway remotely similar?
They are similar in that both individuals chose another school ,one a transfer, another out of high school and yet both attended Rutgers MidKnight Madness.Questions were raised when Williams attended and there was even mention in Carino's article regarding Johnson.Unusual occurences, nothing more.

Sorry. Total reach on your part. I say that respectfully. Jason Williams didn't come to Rutgers. Nigel Johnson played at Rutgers.

Feels like you are trolling a bit.

I disagree because many people thought that Williams was coming to Rutgers before his parents changed his mind.I am not a troll an don't appreciate the comment.Fans are entitled to express their opinion.

Seems like everyone likes Pike; even a guy who leaves. I feel like Nigel could have been a good contributor to this team. I was not happy when he left.

Williams chose Duke over Rutgers. Okay, who could really blame him, right? But the real sore point is that by some accounts he recruited our best player, Dahntay Jones, to leave Rutgers and transfer to Duke (Coach K's 2nd ever transfer in at the time) which was a death knell to our program. Instead of Williams, we signed Todd Billet who was a darn good player until he transferred too but losing Jones was a double whammy.
