No More Schiano

The anti Gs crowd out in force. The defense is down to number 24 and number 55 playing with 24 getting calls for a second and 26 holding call and then failing to contain on the catch. Sure that may be coaching but when you’re down to that level of third string or more sometimes things happen. it was the defense and arguably sending pressure on that pass that you can blame, but the time out is a huge red herring and it was called well before that there was no push for a block in the kicker knew it was already a time out, conventional wisdom. Yes a heartbreaking loss, but the people that unearthed themselves and their biases here are really remarkable.

I understand that but he has had 5 years to build depth. The lack of understanding of the situation by backups is astonishing. They had 1 player on offense that could beat them and you allow a simple crossing route to go for a TD? An absolute disgrace. People are tired of the low level of play. Either get better players or start getting rid of coaches and eventually that will come to the top.

Today's debacle is just the latest demonstration of GameDay coaching malpractice. It may have been the worst coaching decision made by any college football coach this season. Schiano needs to resign or be fired for this total idiocy.
FIFY. Terrible, terrible decision, but c'mon, we were in position to beat #24 a 7-3 team, because of how Schiano has rebuilt the program. Even he acknowledged the TO was probably a mistake. It sucks balls. But we move on.

I'm sure I can't take reading all the negativism on the board, so this will likely be my only post tonight. Have fun folks and let's get to 7-5 next week.

There's nothing biased about criticizing a coach for calling and unnecessary TO for a 58 (or 63?) yard field goal in the last moments of a wind affected game. Ryan Day, Brian Kelly, or any other similarly paid coach WOULD NOT do that. That is not a player or NIL problem. That is entirely a Greg Schiano problem and essentially exposed him as a mediocre coach at absolute best.

Sure we have injuries. Who is responsible for maintaining depth though so that we still win games? Is the HC not responsible for recruiting anymore? Schiano said we have depth at the beginning of the season. Well then, where are they on defense?

The defense did the best for what they could be expected to do. They are part of the reason we lost of course. But Greg's call missed a big opportunity to clear the air on his coaching skills and win us a ranked game for once.

The anti GS crowd also wonder how are we going to get 2 more wins after losing 4 in a row. This loss is 100% on GS. But the fact that we “should’ve won” against a Top 25 teams means he is doing a good job. If we can hire a big name coach that’s proven, I’m all for it. But to take flyer on a maybe over GS, no thanks.

I haven't followed more than the highlights. As I understand it the beef here is Greg's TO was so late that it showed Bielema the kid couldn't make the kick.

And the D call after that. Not sure that’s GS or the D coordinator

Fire him and you will 15 more years of a Flood/Ash type and no one on the board will be following Rutgers football because 1-3 wins will be the norm.
Another idiotic take by the OP.

How confident are you guys that 6-6 seasons will be the norm going forward? How does recruiting, staffing, and boosters fit into this?

Edit: My position aligns closer with Jtung as I reread. I'm curious though as to what the consensus is going into next season.

Unless your name is Saban almost everything is a flyer lol.

Kelly not working out near expectations at LSU yet. Same for Riley at USC for the most part.

Herman was a hot name at one time and just fired at FAU.

Fickell a hot name hasn’t panned out yet at Wisc, if they don’t win next week it could be the first losing season in 20 some odd years for them.

It’s all a crap shoot, hot name or otherwise. No way to know for sure.

It all depends on the schedule. If we play a lot of the top tier teams 6-6 is acceptable. This was the year to get to 8 or more wins. But our Ru screw hit us with all the injuries.

Fire him and allow a coach to take us to the next level. We have reached Greg’s ceiling. He’s trash
We allowed two coaches named Flood and Ash to follow Schiano with terrible results. You guys were beating him up when we got our new QB AK but now it seem like 100% agree he’s a good QB.

With 14 seconds left to play, this was the ideal place for the prevent. Rush 3 let him run around all he wants and have 8 players to tackle the receiver. But then I thought about what was on the field. The field goal block team. Probably mostly speed rushers. Cant' call timeout because they just burned one on the kick. So they went to a full blitz with what 4 back? Can't really fault that decision. He just got the pass off and the receiver outran 4 guys. It happens but statistically not often.

The time out? Monday morning quarterbacking. Not one of you complained when this worked and froze the kicker in the past. Schiano's 5th year back, we're going to our second earned bowl game and we had a ranked team going down for the first time since USF in 2007 until the last 14 seconds. No more Schiano? GTFO. This team in the past three games has hit its stride. Look what we did to Minnesota then look at what Minnesota did to Penn State. Despite all the injuries this team has turned the corner. It was a gut-wrenching loss. Get over it. We've got a bowl game to play and a bright future for the first time in a freakin' decade.

15 years since we beat a ranked team. Let that sink in and explain to me why we keep Schiano when coaches like Cignetti were building programs like JMU with no resources or top recruits.

What? GS hasn’t been here for 15 years. Cignetti had a lot of resources to bring in 24 kids from the portal.

ETA cignetti just signed a big contract. One that RU will never be able to match. You really think he has no resources?

Well, that settles it. Two men couldn't do the job here. That's conclusive evidence that Greg Schiano is the only human on earth who can get us to a whopping 7 wins.

on the flip side, watching 'Lean on Me' which is good!

oh yeah, RU bad lol

We were forced into Flood by Greg leaving us last minute. Yes Hobbs missed on Ash doesn’t mean we miss again now that we are paying top 25 coaching money

Stop if the next coach brings us to the CFP like cignetti we would pay them. Greg already top 25 paid next year

OP is delusional. Grow up and have an ounce of perspective. Tough loss, yes. Schiano is the right man for the job, and quite frankly he’s overachieving given the resources he has to work with.

We are showing steady improvement each week and will continue to get better each year.

If you don’t have the stomach and patience for big boy Big Ten football, go root for Syracuse

Is Indiana a lock for CFP? I don’t see RU paying 8mm for HC. We don’t have the money or donors for that. That’s fact for a very long history

Greg’s making 7.75 mm 🤔 with the escalation in his contract. Will pay for trash I think will pay for 10-1

I'm a huge Schiano fan, but the TO criticism is completely warranted - worst decision Greg has made in a game in his entire career and he's had a few bonehead ones in the past. There is no way one should ever call a TO when the opposing team wants to kick a 58 yard FG into a stiff wind. No way do you want the other team to reconsider and go for it on 4th and 13, when there is a far higher % of making a first down and having a ~40 yard FG attempt (easy to complete a pass in the middle of the field for a first down, which temporarily stops the clock, so one can spike it) than hitting that 58 yard FG. No way around it being a terrible decision. Of course, it didn't have to lead to a loss, but it did.

Pre-Schiano - 2019, at Illinois: Illinois 38, Rutgers 10. BIG teams played us and took bets on how many points they would beat us by back then.

2024 with Schiano, Rutgers nearly beats a better Illinois team than the 2019 team, Illinois 38, Rutgers 31.

By the way, Maryland beat us 48-7 that year.

My opinion? Schiano is the guy.

of the 25K that stayed to the end, nobody thought the kicker was going to make it in that wind....i dont care what he did in warm ups or prior games...i would roll with let him hurry onto the field and kick it...I still question the whole Icing and percentages...frankly give the kicker more time and it build his muscle memory to make it....onto MSU...

It’s ok ,we can give everyone a participation trophy because they almost won a game against a good team & then give GS another 5 year extension paying him 6.25 mil per year for going 6 & 6 , come on man, are you kidding me .

IU is in good shape after all the SEC losses yesterday. As long as they beat Purdue they should be in probably 10-11 area.

I do think we’d pay that money if we got that much success but I’m not a supporter of it because I don’t like big long term contracts off short term results. I’m sure most wouldn’t have thought we’d ever pay an average of 7M/yr (maxing at 7.75M) for a coach either but here we are.

Coaching picks are all a crap shoot regardless of notoriety.

But to say GS or frankly anyone is the only one who can do this or that isn’t correct. Since the school (Mulcahy) decided to support football at a decent level we’ve only had 3 coaches in 24 years. That’s not some big sample size to make any conclusions. Most schools in all of FBS probably have had more coaches than in the last 24 years.

If paid 6.25mm 4 yrs ago. That would be competitive. Right now, not so much. He is still 12th in the B1G.
