Noah sucks so bad

I had worried Noah was too small and not quick enough to score off the dribble in the B1G, but he completely forgot how to shoot from 3 somehow

He has gotten easy looks in the lane with craftiness recently and not even been close go hitting

We are getting a bottom 10% outcome from Noah

Yet he absolutely destroyed us the one time we played against him

I don't see the easy looks in the paint. He has to pivot five times just to get a shot off.

Not every low level transfer pans out. That's why they mostly play in a lower level conference. He's a bust. Accept it and finish eating the shit sandwich that is this season.

RutgersChow making a strong case for dumbest poster on this board. And he is ready for the level of competition as well.
Yea I'm dumb. In defending Pike you said he should get credit for getting us into the B1G tournament every year since he's been here. I don't think it's possible to know any less. Maybe a basketball IQ test is in order. Scangg - I kind of respect you're posts. Kind of surprised you would agree with a post like this.

Man the world must be a confusing place for you.

Apparently the quote function is also confusing for you, but good try good effort.

I just laughed at it. I get your overall point that players can't play up to B1G level, but you're ignoring his point that Noah stunk against lower level OOC teams as well

You're argument would make more sense if Noah started strong OOC then fell off in B1G play

Also, guys who perform in lower leagues and transfer up can find success. Until I see some compelling evidence I'm going to assume a big part of it is randomness. Why did Cam Spencer thrive but Ethan Wright failed? Why was Ivy League point guard Mike Smith a hit at Michigan but Ivy League point guard Jaelin Llewellyn a failure at Michigan? (even before his injury he stunk)

First team All Big South guy Christian Keeling was a complete bust for North Carolina, but Big South freshman of the year Adam Flagler was a star at Baylor. Many such examples. You want a tiny A10 point guard transferring to the Big Ten? How about Fatts Russell from URI to Maryland where he had a 102 ORtg and no problems getting his shots off. That's about the level of performance I expected from Noah.

Check out the Carino article about Noah in today's Asbury Press . His comment about some fans and their criticism of Noah is right on.
Noah deserved some of that fanbase criticism. He knows that he has to produce unfortunately right from the gitgo. Noah shot it well yesterday… Noah will not always shoot the lights out but just hitting 3-4 each game makes us a tough out. Thought Hyatt ( who also has had his detractors) came up big for us today. Andre hustles, boards, plays D and yes can shoot. Hyatt is yet another Rutgers player who has benefited from the emergence of Jeremiah William’s play. Need the fans to amp it up against another good team in Nortwestern. Need the team to continue doing exactly what they are doing during this streak.Play as ONE.

I think this thread is more than fair. Noah doesn’t play too many minutes and every 6-7 games he gives a really good performance. He was great yesterday. The expectation should be maybe we get one more 15+ pt game this from him. Solid bench guy. Beyond that, he’s still the 5th or 6th guard on the team.

And yes …Ogbole for all his lack of experience has bolstered my confidence in Pikiell and staff to find a hidden gem. That is one B1G man.

Ogbole had some issue with controlling the ball but don’t tell me he can’t develop into a very decent B1G… he is not slow foot… is agile … and sure as heck likes to mix it up.
I think he develops as long as he does NOT do any fingertip pushups.

I was laughing at Bardo’s finger tip pushup mantra but it’s partly related to Emmanuel’s missing early training as a youth. Playing soccer goalie though has to help. His hands are certainly B1G enough to palm one in each…We had several here who claimed he was slow footed maybe even awkward… sorry but that just proved more so that viewers aren’t good evaluators for the most part. Is he going to be an all American Center? Maybe not but Ogbole still basketball wise is in his infant stage of development.GO RU BEAT NW!!!!!!

Well this post and all the dopes piling on didn't age well.
Well it was true for most of the season.

Without reading the entirety I'm sure some guys went over the top, but still, he wasn't good, hopefully yesterday was a turning point for him.

If an added bonus of Williams coming in and playing so well is we get an added scorer off the bench that would be big.

And yet people doubted what others were seeing in practice and reporting… JW was a pretty good portal guy… Guess we should realize again Pikiell can actually coach…

Different era but another coach who many loved and why? The man could coach Defense on the court… Think his name was Al Lobalbo???

I believe that too many of our fans rip our players up and down way too often. Noah has struggled somewhat but the comments on here by many of our posters were in my opinion way too critical. Noah has scored double figures in 9 games and he scored 19 against Seton Hall which we probably would not have won that day without that performance. He shot over 40% on three pointers last year at U Mass.

I realize this is a highlight tape but it's appended by some Synergy stats at the top.

77th percentile scorer as a ball screen handler
99th percentile (!) as a spot-up guy
51st percentile in transition

He just doesn't play the way here that he plays at UMass. Whether that's coaching or Noah is likely unanswerable.

Finally!

Noah went from a 29% to a 35% 3 point shooter in one game.

(1) I told you guys that if nothing else, he can shoot.
(2) This is a pretty good demonstration of the extreme noise level in small samples and why you shouldn't take single season 3 point percentages all that seriously.

Noah was starting to begin the season and some saying he would be the team's leading scorer.... then played his way to almost the very bottom of the rotation and didn't contribute for most of the season. He FINALLY has a good game and some people are acting like that means he didn't deserve any criticism? Just a weird thought process

It's not like the few who were criticizing Mag after a couple bad games

Noah has been drastically underachieving expectations and that's not debatable. If this is him finally turning the corner, that would be unbelievable for the rest of the season. That doesn't mean we didn't get a bottom 10% type outcome from him so far this season. It is what it is. Can't change the past. Even if he is unbelievable the rest of the season, the games up until now happened and he didn't even come close to living up to expectations for the majority of the year as a 5th year rental not a developmental player

Sorry but … my biggest gripe was with how Derek a true ( soph) was playing snd that GG looked way over matched . Guess what ? …they have re- earned their minutes back along with Hyatt , Ogbole … JW is the type of player who amazingly gets everyone involved in the offense. His teammates are now moving , cutting , setting blocks, doing all the things we had in several past seasons. Injuries and the BS NCAA not only kill teams like Rutgers but it appears to go out of it’s way to do that. Many on this board said exactly the same thing that attacking in the lane would open it up for us. Make us overall better and so far it has… now go beat NW on Thursday. Will be a “ barn” burner for sure and if Rutgers can’t get up for this one well … Rutgers 73-NW 70

Homogenized stats are deceiving. If a team is shooting 25% from three on the season, it looks bad. But it doesn’t work that way for individual games.

If a team shoots 4-16 from the arc in each of two games, they are less likely to win either one, but if they shoot 2-16 in the first game and 6-16 in the second game, they’re more likely to win the second game and go 1-1.

When evaluating a player, I prefer to look at how many times his positive performance directly contributed to a win, minus those times his negative performance directly contributed to a loss (if a player has a ‘positive’ performance in a loss, he gets a neutral grade for that game, and similarly for a player that has a ‘negative’ performance in a win).

In Noah’s case, he directly contributed a net positive performance in least 2 very important (Quad 1) wins: at SHU and at home vs Wisconsin (I haven’t analyzed this for every game and every player, just making an anecdotal observation).

If I have time at the end of this season, I’ll try to map out this evaluation concept for each player.

I don't have any real answers for fans who are not truly interested in players finding a role or appear to ignore obvious players and their talents.

The difference between what we saw at Seton Hall and at Ohio State and now vs Wisconsin, was a willingness to shoot. That is what got RU in trouble late last year, were guards turning down offensive opportunities and shots that presented themselves.

As much as I am 100% on board with giving Gavin a green light, we "might" be in a position where Noah has earned a green light as well. My only goal with this roster is even a bad or forced 3, is better than overpassing or a turnover.

Right now, if you bring Gavin and Noah off the bench with Hyatt, you now have 3 willing shooters from 3 and if they're not matched by opposing starters, we might have a bench that looks like Jacob Young, Yeboah and Mulcahy back in 2019-20.

3 point shooting from the bench is crucial. Need someone combination of Hyatt Gavin Noah to hit 3's each game
