Not looking good for RU Men's Futbol

Would love to see RU's record over the past 30 years in games that really matter. The "choke" factor. From my mind I can only think of the 2006 L Ville Game plus the 1 game the WBB team won in the Big East Tourney Championship.

Go back to the OT Soccer loss in the national Championship to UCLA and lets look at the list/results. I don't think it would be pretty. Source? Anyone?

In this game, RU went from possibly winning the Big Ten to now being the 5 seed out of 10, not even getting to host a game and most likely playing in the first round right back at Maryland.

If you want a team that's won games that matter in that time frame, the WCBB team is your best bet - In 1998, 1999 and 2000, they upset higher-seeded teams in the NCAAs (in 2000, the upset took them to the Final Four); in 2006, they beat a favored Ohio State team in the Sweet 16; in 2007, they won a Sweet 16 game v. #1 Duke in Greensboro and a Final Four game v. LSU, both games where they were pretty big underdogs (and the LSU game wasn't close), plus the BEast championship over UConn; in 2009, they crushed #2 seed Auburn in the 2nd round of the NCAAs as a #7 seed. (There are other examples, too.)

You are 100% right as to the one program that has delivered most (by far). But even with that they have failed at some pretty big moments. Mostly vs. U of Tenn. Even a couple of (what I would call end game chokes last year) BUT... over that time frame...Men's Soccer Run to NC game, 2006 FB Team (which by definition was a Choke vs. WVU). Womens BB Team multiple years....even the 1976 Undefeated MBB team that was 26-0 and got blasted in the Final Four...Rutgers teams seem to wilt in the biggest moments. I just do not get it.

Yet we have individual stars like Cappie P. , Todd Frazier, Devin, M. and Carli Floyd to just name a few. Coaching? Confidence? Killer instincts?

So you expect our teams to always win in "big" games?
Guess you think we should win every national championship; otherwise we "wilted" somewhere along the way, including a national FINAL.

Wow, what a tough grader you are

You're right. But how about we win at LEAST one or maybe even two national championships before you make comments like that. What those above have said, is that in the biggest moments Rutgers always comes up empty. I too would like to be pleasantly surprised for once wouldn't you?

Well guess we'll have to wait until 2016-2017 to win a big ten championship.... Embarrassing

Rutgers finished with the 4th seed. They will now have a chance to win the Big Ten Tournament Championship.

Rutgers has won a few National championships. Just not in your lifetime I guess.

So does that mean Rutgers is hosting Northwestern on Sunday at 1:00? I might make my first trip to a soccer game. Tix can't be expensive right?

You're right. I wasn't even born yet when we won in fencing in 1949. But I was a senior when the women won the AIAW national championship in 1982 just as the women's NCAA tournament was getting underway. And I guess we can count two cheerleading championships in '98 and 2009. Other than that, the shelves are very empty.

I'm still waiting for other national championships in my lifetime from both revenue and non-revenue sports.

Forget National Championships, we have a tough time with conference champs. Can almost count on 1 hand the amount of Big East titles won in the 15+ years we were in that conference.

Actually we've won more than you think. I think overall counting revenue and non-revenue sports, we won over 15 BE championships.

Wow, that is more than I thought. I know for sure Men and Women XC, Womens track, and Mens BB had none. Mens Track had 1 outdoor title. I believe baseball had 1 title. Mens football had a 3 way split for a single title. I guess the rest are womens Bball? I don't think womens soccer had any, what about the Men?

A quick look on the website has Mens Soccer winning a Big East title in 97 and 99. One of those was the regular season title.

I think part of this is - RUS teams generally arent championship caliber. So if they get into a position for a big game, regression to the mean says they will likely lose. Even in 2006 - we were probably on par at best with WVU and UL - the fact that we lost to one and beat the other wasnt a choke - it was just averages.
