Notre Dame-Temple is supposedly "the biggest college football game in Philly in a half-century

That would imply they've reached saturation, which they have not. There's plenty of room for a strong local presence. Proximity is everything.

You're not getting it. A market only adds value if they can increase value from the TV deal. Penn St already requires instate cable fees for big ten network. ACC network? Good luck.

I'm happy for Temple and its fans. I've pretty much always rooted for Temple when they weren't playing us, and even went to a few of their non-RU home games. So far 2015 is looking like their version of what 2006 was for us. It's sustainability is subject to question as many are suggesting, especially if their coach is hired by a P5 program. But in the meantime, it's nice to see Temple fans showing up in greater numbers than ever before.

As for the ACC, I could see Temple getting an invitation, but that would only happen once a new round of conference realignment occurs. When that does happen, as noted above, it will most likely be the SEC and B1G that raid the ACC, probably taking NC State and VPI (SEC) and UVa and UNC (the B1G). I don't know what FSU and Clemson might do once that occurs but the B12 would seem to be a good bet for them. So that would leave lots of room in what will still be a good bball conference. Temple, UConn, and Cincy might all end up there; possibly even Memphis, if they can sustain their current year success once their coach is also hired by a P5 program. So we look forward to future ND schedules filled with 5 games from among BC, SU, UConn, Temple, Wake, Duke, Cincy, UL, and Memphis.

I wouldn't write off Temple so quickly. They have a huge uphill battle to ever get invited into a P5 conference, they have a limited fan base and resources. However, they have shown they are willing to commit to their sports program. The administration has thrown its support behind big time athletics, they tried hard to get people interested in Temple Football, including committing resources and spending money on facilities.

They're up against a lot, theres not that much school spirit amongst alums and students, its a big commuter school, and they're surrounded by the backdrop of philly and programs like Penn State, but the administration wants big time athletics to be successful. Who knows what will happen, their long term goal might be to get into a big time conference, and they are willing to do what it takes to get there, but right now theres too many obstacles in the way holding them back.

You couldn't be more wrong about your assessment of today's TU. It's anything but a commuter school today. The administration has gone completely in the opposite direction of the school's original mission and it was long overdue. There is over 12000 students that now live on or within short walking distance of Main Campus. It was a commuter college when i was an undergrad. Back in the early 90s when i was there, the on campus student body was 2500, give or take.

We sit in the 4th largest media market. You guys are a prime example of what geography can do for you if you have a product worth televising. Limited fanbase is comical. It's been limited because for 30 years, what was worth cheering for 250,000 alums that live within a 5 hour radius of Philadelphia? When 35K show up for Tulane and another 31K show up for UCF, it kind of proves that the alums are beginning to wake up and show some interest. Donor giving is an at all time for us and the university has already secured some significant private donor giving for the stadium project so obviously someone is bucking up.

I've said this repeatedly, 2015 Temple University nothing close to the Temple University of the 1990s.

Whether we end up in a P5 league hinges on what occurs after the ACC GOR contract expires in about 12 years. There will be another round of musical chairs. Personal preference is to see all of the Northeast schools wake up and form their own East Coast all sports conference.

Temple 2015 is not Rutgers 2006 by any stretch of the imagination.

Rutgers 2006 occurred in one of the Big East's most legit years, a conference that was home to 3 top 10 teams in Louisville, Rutgers, and WVU. The conference was undefeated in bowl games that year I believe. We did it against much better competition in an automatic qualifying conference that at the time absolutely deserved the BCS bid and was second only to the SEC in overall conference strength, I believe according to ESPN's statistics, of all places.

Temple 2015 is occurring in a much weaker conference, with the top teams playing on the other side of the conference. Outside of Penn State, they haven't played teams that had the talent we played against in 2006. They will get their chance to take down a real impressive opponent this week, why any Rutgers fan is rooting for them I don't know. It only makes it clearer their team is better than ours at the moment, or at the least better coached.

Keep in mind, this is the only team Philly can get behind right now with Eagles frustration, horrible Phillies year, etc. Temple deserves a lot of credit though.

The excuses keep on coming........and they're comical. Weaker conference huh? Yeah, ok.....tell that to Mississippi, VA Tech, Louisville and Penn St to name a few if the AAC is a weaker conference. What a joke comment. Our program can only play the teams on our schedule. We'll prove whether we're legit when we play Memphis in a few weeks. Can't do anything about not playing Houston. We went on the road to Nippert and beat them but yeah, i know, it's Temple, so Cincy can't be any good right according to your logic. I mean, they only beat Miami but they suck too right? In fact, every P5 program must suck if they lose to the "lowly" AAC right? I mean, your logic only makes sense. The "big boys" don't lose to G5 schools do they?????

Rutgers 2006 was in a watered-down conference.

Temple 2015 is in a conference with two other possible title contenders.

No way, Louisville was really good and WVU was too. Temple gets their chance this weekend.

I can't say any of the above interests me all that much. But Temple is my second favorite team this week.

Temple hasn't been a commuter school in close to a decade.

haha---the new big east still is meaningless when compared to a football conference--even a hall fan and undercover RU hater has football giving Temple a chance at the ACC--which by the way will never happen

Hey, I am not undercover...

your bs about RU is much LESS assertive here than elsewhere--still smells like a big phoney

I'm a polite guest, what can I say? Besides, where else do I post anything about Rutgers? Not really a hot topic these days on the other boards I frequent...

I'm sure 10 years ago, everyone said the same about RU in the B1G...

RU football may not be a hot topic on those other boards you frequent, but I know everyone on the internet is super fired up about Seton Hall basketball.
