Sounds like he’s the likely guy to be our permanent OC. A mistake IMHO. While I have no doubt he’s a fine coach and is not responsible for this mess, we need to send a message and go in a complete different direction. Hire a new coach and let him bring in his own assistants. We need to clean house on offense. How about the guy from JMU? UCF? Even ECU?

Why do you say it sounds like him? Source?

If it comes to fruition, it's the death kneel for Schiano. Need some new blood on the offensive side who can convince some playmakers to come here. That includes more than just the OC. Nunzio couldn't even convince recruits he coached in high school to commit here.

I think he’s earned it, but ultimately it’s Schiano’s career so it’s his call. It’s definitely a risk though.

The reality is Nunzio has stepped in twice for us and stabilized things.

I’d personally like to see what he can do with a full off season of working with players knowing this is the permanent coach.

Too little too late in earlier winnable games but we finally started to see what looked like an offensive philosophy yesterday.

The offense has been just as bad as ever under Nunz. Not sure what "stabilized" means.

1 game the offense has been productive - MSU.
The rest have ranged from horrific to really bad.

Indiana: 24pts 305 yards (really bad)
Minnesota 0pts 134yards (horrific)
Michigan: 17pts 180 yards (horrific)
MSU: 21pts 460 yards (pts terrible, yards good)
PSU: 10pts 167 yards (horrific)

I’m supper bullish on Nunz. There were a ton of calls that were to be had. Two screens where timing was off. The missed outlet to the RB. The pick on the underthrown vertical in the sideline. Easy reads that should have worked. Kid had a bad day. We’ll know by end of next year what we have but I can see something and think nunz should get a shot. And it’s not all good.. if they missed on this QB it doesn’t matter who called it - we are in deep isht.

Say you got a top flight OC, which is doubtful, how long is he going to be here. And then there is the recruitment of top offensive players. Just a few questions to be raised. You still need players with the speed , and skill to execute the plays.

I think Nunzio’s competition has been significantly better than what Gleeson had to deal with. Would you not agree?

Also not sure I’d consider 24 points 305 yards really bad, but to each their own.

The O calls were pretty good yesterday, putting the players in good positions to succeed and catching PSUs D off-balance several times. At least until the game was out of hand due to turnovers. Had the players executed some simple stuff, it would’ve been a very different game.

But turnovers, bad throws, and some critical player mistakes killed us early.

Nunz could probably do the job on game day, IMO. But what everybody says about recruiting is a very valid point. Nunz probably helps with recruiting NJ 3 stars. But 4 stars, nationally, would probably respond better to a more experienced coach with a prior history of success as an OC.

Tough decision for GS.

Drew Mehringer is the TE coach of the #3 offense of Oregon

Charlie Weis Jr is Co-OC/QB coach at the #4 offense of Ole Miss.

Oh. And 7 of those 24pts were an INT return.
So the offense actually scored 17pts.
So yes.
305 yards and 17pts is really bad - to everyone.

How about making Nunzio the dedicated QB coach or getting one. Hire a highly regarded OC. And give the TE's to the Receivers Coach?

Yeah I guess I just don’t look at 300+ yards and think “really bad.”

Especially when considering Schiano is trying to build a program centered around TOP, turnover battle, and defense.

I don’t think there are many coaches viewing the game the way he does nowadays.

But that’s a totally different discussion. I think 300+ yards for a Schiano team is actually an average/solid performance

How
That's the point here. Once again, 4 and 5 star kids have no interest in RU, so it's hard to quantify if his rate is based on zero.

How many 5 stars are going to accept the NIL benefits Rutgers will offer? And you blame the coaches? It will be difficult with 4 stars.

Was Nunzio even allowed to recruit his Bergen Catholic kids? Or even today? I know Augie is not allowed to recruit SJR kids. Not sure if that is a rule overall or was just applied to Augie.

If you're a coach hired as an on-field coach, you can recruit anyone. Only off field coaching hires are restricted.

Why would that be a rule ?
No clue. All I know is Augie can’t recruit SJR kids. Was wondering if that applies to all coaches and their former high school or if that was related to Augie and the Bosco crap when he was suspended a few games.
