"The Cool Ghoul" has assumed room temperature.

Billed as Zacherly,John hopped on the monster craze of the 50's and 60's,hosting a series of late night shows in Philadelphia and NYC featuring monster movies. He would appear in undertaker garb, flanked by various props such as a coffin and other horror paraphernalia.

After that gig ended,he spent a few years on Ch.47 in Newark as host of Disc-o Teen,an afternoon dance show featuring local bands. My brother's band was once on the show.

He then became an FM radio jock, doing that for around 30 years.

Fittingly,he died around Halloween. He shared a birthday with Doug Graber.

Thank you for this, now I can start my day. In other news, 20 million chickens were killed in The US yesterday so we can eat wings this weekend.

Strangely enough, I had just talked about him yesterday with my wife...... a few of her high school friends were at his show a couple of times, way back when, but my wife did not go.....

Wierd because I had not thought about him at all for a real long time.

In the late 1980s I was a part owner of The Dive (rock/punk club) on W 29 St in Manhattan. Zacherle had a gig there every Tuesday night before the music started where he show a horror movie, then did a Q&A after. He had a loyal cult following who were willing to pay him a $10 cover every Tuesday.

The Smithereens were our house band for a while, and lead singer Pat DiNizio our booking guy.

Fun times. A money losing operation , but fun lol.

Remember him well. Single handedly kept the old black and white horror movies on TV.
Didn't he once "run" for president under the Bone Dusters party? He was too early, could have run away with this election with the other choices out there.

Saw him speak in students' lounge at Middlesex C.C. @1969. Groovy old dude. He was "far out, man".
