. . . . though it's been many years since I've been one.

really good atmosphere; a shame we laid an egg;

I didn't see an uninspired and unfocused RU team. I saw a team playing against a different level of comp than early in season--hence the rebounds, the tips around hoop, the loose ball weren't there as they were earlier;

I did see a team that lost any semblance of swagger;

a number of guys (Thiam, Sa, Omoyuri, Diallo, Doorson) showed they're not ready for a big stage--gotta hope they'll do better late season or at least next year;

I didn't have a problem with our number of 3s--thought they were late in the shot clock and were what was available; with small guards your 3s are always gonna be at least partially contested;

ready to call it just bad shooting nights for Williams and Johnson; but Corey seemed to have lost all confidence in his shot;

wish coach would stop looking to feed DeShawn in post;

unfair to criticize Gettys--he is what he is; imo, feeding him (though he'd been missing) what our best option for about final 15 of game

Good observations. Thanks for the insight.

45 missed shots (18-63) for 28%
3 - 20 from three (15%)
8-13 from the line (61%)
17 turnovers//mostly unforced.
In front of 6000 people who came out on New Year's day against our 1st or 2nd most hated rival, with 2 guys not starting cause they we sick all week.

If that is your definition of focus and inspired I cannot be in the same basketball universe with you. We'll just agree to have completely different expectations. PSU is NOT a good basketball team AT ALL.

Inspiration doesn't make one a good shooter! Neither does focus. Shooting skill does.

They were clearly not focused...that has nothing to do with missing shots..compare the game to earlier bad shooting nights...yesterday was missing passion IMO

Effort was there. We only gave up 60. 3 for 20 from 3 point land. You are not going to win.

We shouldve got the ball go Gettys in the post more. He had 100 pounds on everyone

Sailing the ball over players heads and repeated sloppy passes leading to runouts aren't examples of focuus and great effort...neither is repeated leaving psu open for easy 3s...when you allow a 14-0 run to a bad PSU in just 3 minutes it doesn't make much difference the defense was better in the last 10 minutes...game was over at 47-29

Well, I didn't say they were the "definition" of focused and inspired. I think there were periods where the play was sloppy, mostly when they were trying to do too much out of frustration--i.e., Corey a couple of times going to hoop. I think Laurent was guilty, but I've thought that even in the softest part of our schedule. Yeah, we had 17 TOs--in our games against SHU, Wisky, and PSU we've had 19, 15, 17.

As others said, shooting is about shot selection and having shooters and their getting into a rhythm. I had not problem with shot selection.

I've only got 25 posts but I hope I'll be around long enough to figure out which guys are level-headed and actually know basketball. It's already obvious that number of posts is a poor indicator.

we I see you've already figured out how to be immature and take shots at people just cause you disagree with them. Congrats on that skill set.

Don't know BAC personally but I would bet between him and me we have about 70 years combined observing Rutgers Basketball. (and yeah, I played in High School when they still used peach baskets).

I guess if you don't think focus matters I guess you shoot about 40% from the foul line.

'84--I didn't particularly like the tone of either your comments or Bac's. Reread what you wrote. esp. the "if that is your definition of . . ." I took that to be taking a shot. And, yeah, I made a wiseass comment in response. Too bad.

I don't know what your last sentence "I guess is . . ." means.

relax, take a breath, and find a safe space....your shot missed. need more focus lol.

(it just means we completely disagree...got it?)

Shooting a jumpshot doesn't take much athletic talent but obviously some athletes have more ability to shoot accurately than others. That said I think RU's problem of extremely poor shooting is primarily due psychological issues. Many of our players have lost their confidence in their shot. I hope Coach P is employing a good sport psychologist to help the players develop the mental skills necessary to maximize their physical abilities. Dr Loehr once said, "With confidence you can reach truly amazing heights, without it even the simplest accomplishments seem beyond your grasp."

Mostly agree but there's something else going on when you're allowing one of the worst teams in the conference to hold a dunk contest on your home court. That's not just the step up in competition from bad low majors to bad high majors.

Those slams were tough to watch. I think most of them came though after PSU pulled away in second half and Pike felt necessary and go with heavy 3/4-court trapping. The gamble's built in. But there were also some half-court breakdowns.
