OFFICIAL HC Candidate SpeculationThread

I wouldn't mind a few of the FCS coaches and taking a shot at a Oregon/TCU/Baylor OC wouldn't be the worst outcome.

Schiano.

Sure if you can talk Urban Meyer into it. But I think GS is probably the best we can get and he can engineer the quickest turnaround. And hire a good OC for him!

Welcome Back, Coach!

Schiano would be seen as a step back. If Rutgers doesn't spend what is necessary to attract a proven coach, as opposed to looking for a guy that they get cheap, they are doomed to fail.

Rutgers can and should attract better than Greggy.

I have not spoken to a single person who thinks that Schiano is a step back, although I appreciate its your opinion. In fact, every casual fan that I have spoken to believes that RU should get him back.

My nightmare. I wake up and Edsall is named HC and immediately announces CL is his starting QB.

Given the circumstances, we cannot afford to take a chance on a young unproven coach no matter how talented or motivated he may appear to be on paper. In my opinion Schiano is the right choice - he needs to be given a good budget to hire someone like the Fridge and he needs to stay the hell away from the offensive playbook. GS knows defense and discipline. And he will right this ship immediately.

Aside from Richt or Pelini, Schiano is the one realistic name who could be in the same room as Meyer and Harbaugh and have it not be a total joke.

Common Sense Prediction: I have no flipping idea.

Wild and crazy prediction: Josh McDaniels and we go back to being the Patriots farm team again.
Even wilder and crazy prediction Josh McD HC, Ben McD OC, Schiano as DC/embedded consultant/McDaniels' Whisperer

All will last two-three years until the next best thing comes along, and they are resurrected from previous coaching stints gone wrong.

I know Mark Richt is probably not realistic, but I make the call anyway and make him say no.

I don't know why names like Richt or Pelini are thought of as unrealistic. They may be big enough to get the major donors interested and being in the Big Ten is better than being in the Big East. This is the first coaching hire for football in a power conference. Hopefully that gets some interest RU may not have had previously.

Money will be an issue, but most big-time programs have recruited NJ before. The big names know what sort of recruiting area we have here. It's not like Jersey doesn't offer any benefits. We have the media capital of the world and a relatively strong recruiting ground year after year.

Pelini and Richt are my top two choices. Schiano would be third.

I'll glad take Pelini's nonsense if we can win 8-10 games every single year.

It's schiano's to lose since he's already been extended the offer. I don't know how I feel abt it. Maybe his second time around he's changed. I will say this half the stuff that got "leaked" to that site in Newark won't be let out. Which is good. Greg can also steal a kid or two and complete this class.

I can't see Schiano being the guy since Hobbs will be looking to transform the football program in order to add control. Floo and a number of players on the roster (mostly seniors) were Schiano guys. I think they need to change overall. While Bill Obrien has similar experience as Schiano he may be a better choice since he is from the outside plus he has worked with a PSU program that was in transition from sanctions that may be the case for Rutgers too.

Not talking about what the "casual fan's" perspective is.Recruits and the perception of the national media would be that the job became Schiano's almost by default.

It is not as if Greg's career has taken off since he left and if you take an honest look at his record he has accomplished little.

If you really want to win Championships in the Big10 he is not the guy to get you there.

Babers and Rhule would be better choices than Schiano, Golden, Cristobal, IMO. Those three have already demonstrated their limits.

Keep Schiano away from Rutgers. He's an average to below average coach and Rutgers has direct experience.

College football's KING of Soft and Easy OOC schedules
28-48 in the Big East
12 years on Rutgers payroll
68-67 overall record
ZERO BCS games
ZERO conference championships
His 'defense' gave up 69 points to Cincinnati in 2010

Fired after two seasons at TB for being a below average coach there.

Let Schiano coach at a program that matches his ability... Monmouth College, Widener University, etc.

Richt, Babers, Rhule, then Schiano. Others to consider Kirby Smart, Scott Frost.
