Except they were Big 10 refs. Yeah they still sucked especially Dorsey and Gaffney. Dorsey has reffed 4-5 of our games and has done us no favors in any of them.

Oh, I didn't realize that. Then the calls were really awful! Very inconsistent beginning to end. But, I still think the NCAA should hire all refs.
You can't just look at number of fouls. You have to look at when in the half they're called. That's what determines how the game is played.
Exactly plus as other OP's have noted Shoe got away with a lot of noncalls. Delgado was able to bang and bull Gettys and our other bigs all night on both ends of the court.
Exactly both halves I believe SHU had 1 foul to our 7 to start each halve. I just started rewatching the game and the first foul on Gettys was ridiculous Delgado total BS acting when fighting for position will get through rest of game later
Delgado flopped on the Williams foul under the SHU basket
Angel got the rebound and I believe Sa and Williams got their. They sorta reached in, but I don't think Williams touched him. Either way, Delgado falling hard didn't match the contact/lack their of. Lebron is the king at this. The NBA guys are starting the get called out for it's they should. If you're 6'9" 270, you don't fall to ground when you're barely touched
Not exactly sure what the play was. Think Getty was setting a pick, was perfectly still & the SU guy in getting around him hurled himself to the floor. Any novice ref could have seen the act & that there was no foul. Of course one was called on Getty, who couldn't believe it.
Awful officiating, regardless of outcome, plain and simple. Either let them play, or don't, these guys couldn't decide and it affected play in both halves.

That is exactly why Rutgers lost the game however, if a foul is called on one end, it should be called on the other. That was not the case Friday night. All we are looking for is some consistency here. There were 2 called fouls on Gettys that were atrocious. You call the same things on Delgado and things could be different. Just looking for fairness here. Have to give credit to Coach P on the way he handles the refs. He discusses the situation with them calmly. Nothing over the top.
I rewatched portions of the game at home and as I suspected there were simply some horrendous calls that went against RU. Carrington went up for a slam off a turnover and Sa intimidated him but did not touch him. Foul called, free points for SHU.
Even the FS1 Big East homer announcers had to acknowledge that [poop] call, saying Carrington got the "benefit of the doubt" because he was "so aggressive in going to the hole", and that there would be no call if he just went for a layup. Ridiculous.
What you ignore is that a game that is called in a lopsided fashion affects how you might be outrebounded and how many turnovers you might have. When a side is whistled for significantly less contact, like RU was in this game, you begin to play more tentative than the other side. Down the stretch this was particularly evident -- for example, it was not just the two FTs that Nigel Johnson did not get on his drive, or the loss of possession on the Diallo charge, which resulted from a palpably bad no call and a palpably bad call respectively, it is how this affects how you play. Conversely, if an offensive rebounder like Delgado does not get called for a couple of over the backs, he is emboldened to go all out without fear. If a shot blocker like Sa is called for a foul with no contact, he is less likely to go after a shot that he might otherwise get. I seldom complain about officiating, but this was terrible and it had a creping effect on how RU played. The announcer thought RU got worn down. They did not; they got tentative.

Thought refs were not great, but it went both ways. And I thought your early plan was to play physical in the post, which you did, and that had alot to do with the first half score.
Notice that no one complained tonight? Sometimes the complaints are appropriate and sometimes they are not.
