Ohio State LB Quits Mid Game

The only similarity is that a person was with the team, and then they weren't. They both have about as much common with Julius Turner leaving the game yesterday, or Omoruyi leaving the Ohio State game a couple years back.

Biles stepped away from competition because she felt she wasn't able to safely compete. There was no altercation with a teammate or coach, there was no tearing off of her uniform or being escorted out of the competition space by staff, there was no throwing part of her uniform into the stands, there was no follow up comments blasting US Gymnastics. She instead supported the rest of her team and cheered on the person who stepped in to fill her slot.

Pope quit after he was pulled off the field of play because the defensive package was switched, and he got angry at the loss of playing time. He had an altercation with coaches, he threw his gloves into the stands, he took off his uniform while on the sideline, and he was escorted to the locker room. His departure didn't even rob his team of a player on the field, since he wasn't even supposed to be playing that down - and he was a situational use player to begin with. He then followed it up with a tweet bashing the program. He quit on his team because he was frustrated at not being able to play.

This is a different situation at pretty much every point.
- Biles was being asked to play, and she chose not to.... while Pope was being asked not to play, and he threw a fit over it.
- Biles actually stopped competing and allowed her backup to step in.... while Pope wasn't even competing in the first place, and was angry that his backup was getting a snap instead of him
- Biles continued to support her team from the sidelines.... while Pope had to be removed to the locker room
- Biles didn't cause a scene by arguing with coaches and throwing part of her equipment into the stands.... while Pope did
- Biles continued to be vocally supportive of her program.... while Pope bashed them on social media.

But sure, they both were with the team, and then they weren't. They are also both athletes, and both human beings. The similarities pretty much stop there, though.
I agree with everything you stated here but there’s something else that the OSU player and Biles have in common that it’s a no brained on why Simone Biles was mentioned here in the first place.

Not sure I understand the process for making defensive substitutions at LB during a game. Don’t the coaches make the call on LB substitutions?

The original story said that Pope was waved off by a player on the field from getting into the next play and that caused his sideline antics.

Can anyone explain how this works?
Players don’t respect the coaches. Coaches rollover to the players.

It's a gang thing. Also college isn't what it used to be it is no longer an education but just a credential you pay big money for. Totally unnecessary for most purposes in life.
Like the crips and the bloods?

So glad to hear he remains on scholarship through end of year. He’s probably studying right now.

I read he is in the transfer portal. Can a school actually get him?
If that is the case, then NCAA is a total scam organization.

If I had to guess I bet his teammates didn’t care much at all. The younger guys probably laughed and the older guys understood. He handled it poorly but everyone of these guys are selfish as hell. It’s all about getting to the league. So, they get it when guys move on.
This isn't' sitting out a bowl game - which is shitty enough to do to your teammates - this was 3-games into the season and at halftime. I HIGHLY doubt his teammates "understood."

He's going to be really upset he did that when his Scholarship and all the extra benefits end at end of semester...Whats this bill I have for tuition and I have to pay rent and for food??

He will be gone from OSU at the end of this semester when the well runs dry.

FWIW didn’t Greg recruit him to OSU?

Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Hope he learns from his self centered action and what it cost him.
But I would guess he's asking the same University that he disgraced for help finding a place to land ( even if FCS) SO he could save his scholarship.
Meaning the same football program that he disrepected will help him find a new program, so he can receive a scholarship there

I appreciate that you or I, or any number of people -- particularly those who are older and grew up when things were different -- would have an issue with it. I'm simply saying that I don't believe that this generation of players (and kids, generally) view things the same way. Moreover, he wasn't a key player on their team. So, yes, I think they understood he was upset, melted down, and went too far.

Lol, you don‘t keep your scholarship if you get dismissed from the team. He’s lucky he keeps it until the end of the semester.
Guaranteed means guaranteed as long as they aren't kicked out of school, they keep the scholarship, it is a legally binding contract.

He's a Senior...Does he have any remaining eligibility after this season? Don't see anybody picking him up unless he has a year left and can get a FCS offer for 1 year

Pretty sure your wrong on this...The statement from HC

"K'Vaughan will continue to have the use of programs that benefit our student-athletes, such as our Student-Athlete Support Services Office, and we will support him with his progress toward graduation. He will remain on scholarship through the duration of the semester."

Come January and next semester he gets nothing

I understand your Guaranteed 4 years but that is if you dont fail out or Quit...Otherwise a freshman can practice for 1 day and then Quit and be carried for four years

Read the B1G rules on scholarships bro, you’re 100% wrong.

there's this clause that might allow OSU to drop the scholarship :
"The scholarship will neither be reduced nor cancelled provided he or she remains a member in good standing with the community, the university and the athletics department."

Pope's action could be considered quitting the team and ending his good standing status.
But being dismissed from the team for disciplinary reasons could be considered ending his good standing status as well.

He probably graduates then

Maybe, he'll probably transfer but if he wanted to stay he could and be on scholarship and not be part of the team.
sounds like if he wants to graduate from OSU he'll be paying his own way after this semester is over
