Ohio State captures second Big Ten title

GENEVA, Ohio - The Ohio State women's track & field team won the 2015 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Buckeyes posted three individual titles and claimed one relay to clinch Ohio State's second Big Ten Championship and first since 2011.

Ohio State totaled 84 points en route to the championship, while Michigan was second with 69 points. Penn State and Purdue tied for third with 68 points, while Michigan State and Nebraska both claimed 65 points to finish in a tie for fifth place.

The Buckeyes picked up first-place finishes from Chesna Sykes in the 60-meter dash, Katie Borchers in the 800-meter run, Abie Ehimwenman in the long jump and a team title in the 4x400 relay.

First-place finishers included Illinois' Nicole Choquette in the 600-meter run and Stephanie Richartz in the pole vault, and Michigan's Cindy Ofili in the 60-meter hurdles. Michigan State's Leah O' Connor claimed the individual title in the one-mile run, while teammates Rachele Schulist and Tori Franklin won the 3,000-meter run and triple jump, respectively, and the Spartans won the Distance Medley Relay team title. Maryland's Amber Melville claimed first-place honors in the high jump, Minnesota's Jess Herauf won the pentathlon, Penn State's Kiah Seymour claimed first-place honors in the 400-meter dash, and the Nittany Lions' Tori Gerlach claimed the 5,000-meter run. Rutgers' Gabrielle Farquharson finished first in the 200-meter dash, while Wisconsin's Kelsey Card earned first-place finishes in the shot put and weight throw.

The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships and Coach of the Year will be announced on Tuesday.
