OSU Replay review of Rettig's throws

I watched it numerous times. He made at least one, if not two throws the starting QB clearly can't make. Cold. Off the bench. After not playing for two months.

He deserves more, as the vast majority of RU fans rightfully agree based on the poll. Peyton Manning? Tom Brady? You are getting emotional and it's not helping your argument.

A poll about the backup quarterback on a fan board when the team is not winning as much as the fan base would like? Umm... what do you think the result of 99% of similar polls across the country would be. You think maybe the backup wins in every case? The fact that anyone would use that as part of their basis of an argument tells me everything I need to know about that persons reasoning ability. Had a nice laugh about that post!

I used it as the basis for my point which is everyone wants to see more of him, your incredibly astute analysis notwithstanding.

When the back up makes throws the starter can't, is that really a surprise?

It appeared to me as the game wore on Laviano regressed. His mechanics and throw were way off. Plus he depend too much on Carroo. Once he was out he doesn't look long.

Not many people who would consider the second & third string OSU defense that Rettig was playing against as one of the best in the country. Unlike Laviano, who WAS playing against one of the top D's in the country. In both this game as well as the MSU and PSU games. This was just an objective evaluation of each throw to confirm the ridiculousness of a segment of the fan base who had anointed him as the next Tom Brady based on his performance in this mop up duty.
Sorry, I missed the Tom Brady posts. However, a person in Rettig's situation can only do
the best he can in any given situation, he has been a good team player and most
of us want him to get a chance, that's all. The most difficult part of this situation for
him is that they are both sophomores, it's not like the other guy is graduating and
Rettig has to just wait his turn. I don't know one single person that will agree
with you that the TD pass was not well thrown. Laviano is getting his chance and
show he needs a lot of work, but it doesn't look like he is hands down better so
much that the other guys doesn't get a looky see.

I've only seen laviano look good with Caroo. Rettig never has had an opportunity to play with one of the best all time RU receivers and he still looks good.

What is there to even debate? Let the kid play a half or 2 here and there and lets see what we have. We rotate RBs, give this kid a damn chance Flood!

People still say Rettig isn't mobile? I thought that was put to bed in the first half of Norfolk state when he ran for 15 yards on 3rd and 10 and scrambled 10 yards for a touchdown?

And reviewing the replay of the TD... that was actually not a very good throw either.

Reading the above from the OP was all one needs to see to know there's either bias or a lack of judgment.

That was some throw-and in pressure situation of entire OSU team amped for a shutout and RU trying to avoid one. It passed any and all eye test. Even Herbie noted it was a heck of a throw. There may be issues as to some others, but calling that "not a very good throw" just removes credibility from the argument.

I have to agree with you. To criticize that throw just shows lack of knowledge. That of all of the throws attempted this year is by far the most difficult. Short field tight windows and low trajectory. Not an easy throw for most pros let alone someone stepping in to his first game in greater than 6 weeks.

Rettig certainly showed enough against Ohio State to warrant at least a series or two in the next game imo. And if there's another emerging blow out, there is absolutely no excuse not to put him in.

Sorry, man....but you are way off on the TD throw.

If not for the velocity he put on that ball, it would have been picked. Did you not see there were two defenders in the neighborhood, but neither could react quickly enough to make a play on the ball. Laviano makes the same pass, and that is most assuredly a pick.

The only one who had a chance to catch that pass, was our receiver.

That was an NFL throw. Your analysis is just off.

So far this year, the two best passes thrown by an RU QB have belonged to Rettig.

First was a pass thrown to Grant right up the middle in the first half of the Norfolk State game That was a dart right on target. Second was the TD pass last week.

Laviano simply does not have the tools to make either throw.

if we had Rettig in there more, I'm guessing there would be many other examples of passes that he makes, that CL simply cannot make. All Rettig needs is a chance, but Flood won't give it to him.

I'd like to have an argument. . . .

This is pure silliness. Rettig should get more time period. I don't think anybody argues with that. Too soon to tell if he is "better" or not. And "better" should mean more than just arm strength and accuracy. That's a very important factor, though.

"No he shouldn't". Just ask Flood et al.

BTW Is this the 5 minute argument.......

With your analysis that Rettig's TD pass was "actually not a very good throw" ....you lose all credibility. ALL credibility.

By the way, didn't Laviano throw a pick against the same "second and third string D" that Rettig completed a bomb against AND a TD pass against?

Cali Knight is right on the money 2 great throws (long ball and TD) and the other sideline throw to Agudosi he was clearly held, the DB had a handful of Jersey. I also think that the two throws prior to the TD were balls Rettig threw away and rightly so. The throw to Arch was a pick waiting to happen.
