OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

Of course you should be allowed to post here. You're one of the more reasonable Mets fans here IMO.
I just think that there should be a limit to the number of times you can give up on a season.
There lies the problem, you think, and you think we care what you think. Remember when Yankee fans and management gave up on the season and traded Chapman a Green, but forgot to tell Girardi and the players? They almost made the post season and would have if both fans and management didn't give up!!!:ThumbsDown:YesNo

That's a great emoji!! It symbolizes the board so well!!!

Amazing that after reading so many of my posts you'd think I care about what you think.

50 years ago tonight,a black cat ran past the Cubs' dugout at Shea Stadium. It doesn't appear that any animal will be able to help the Mets this season.

My Mets' fans friends dragged me to the game that night to see the ongoing miracle continue.

But I thought that you think what I think that you think what he thinks and so on and so on. At least we agree on something, neither one of us gives a $hit what each thinks,:ThumbsUp. Now go and get eliminated on October 10th or earlier, and help THIS thread spend the winter in bliss, while you guys are :BrokenHeart.remember, our bar is only JV, you guys are winning multiple championships in that 5 year period, 0-2 and counting.

Don’t kill me but I was watching Yankee game Saturday on FS1. Announcers (have no idea who) were talking about home run races in both leagues. Talked about Trout AL leader first. Then had a conversation about NL. Talked about Yelich and Belinget being tied at 44. Obviously a planned discussion as they had videos of both. Then mentioned someone right behind them at 43. The whole time I’m thinking what are they talking, Alonso had 45; their not leading. When they finished never one mention of Alonso. Baffling.

47.

If we could’ve cloned Lugo once or twice, we might have had a shot.
Just six that we can’t use him like a true closer as he is always going 2 and then not available
DeGrom and Alonso with monster games. Looks like Pete really has a shot at Judges rookie record now

Another reason why pulling him last week was so darn annoying

As per the game. Good win, always love to see the bullpen preserving the win for a starter who pitches really well.

Put it in the books.

Whew thought Alonso gave it away
Actually I thought Alonso made a good play in pinning the tying run at third. If he throws to second, the runner goes into a rundown, and then it's a matter of who executes better. If it's the D-backs, it's a tie game.

Thought when he got up he could have tagged him then stepped on first. Either way Wilson got it done.

Good couple of days...

You know, if our beloved BP could have helped out Jacob on that 10-4 lead and got him the win last week, he may had been pretty much neck and neck now for CY II

To bad I feel anything going forward for the Mets would be too little too late.
Watching the Alonso deGrom show now

Or have Lugo finish by going 2 innings one night, then have Wilson finish the next night and so on. They're the only 2 relievers I trust at this point and maybe Callaway should've been doing this for at least a month now. Anybody but Diaz.

That would have been an outstanding instinctive play for a veteran 1B. A big ask for a rookie.

I feel that him being a rookie, and more importantly the team winning, is letting Alonso off the hook.

My guess is he didn't see the guy on first, and after making the dive on the ball he kind of forgot who was where, and had some tunnel vision watching the base runner on 3rd, but there is a reason everyone had their hands on their heads as Alonso threw to Frazier.

That is a play that needs to be made, but we won so we can sweep that one under the rug.

You can practice scenarios like the one last night, but until you experience it in a game it may not register with a young inexperienced player.

Nimmo's stat lines this year are just getting bizarre.

Batting .199 on the season. But a .367 obp.

In his last 6 games is 1 for 11. But he has 7 walks.

Last night there were at bats where it looked like he had no intention of even swinging the bat, including a 3 pitch strike out.

Now his slugging is a measly .336. His OPS is .703. Those are both terrible, only 18 rbi's in 50 games, so not great there either (but still markedly better then Lagares's 20 in 118 which is amazingly bad) but in a lineup that has so many aggressive swingers his willingness to take the walk(and get hbp) is a nice complement(though it would make more sense if he were higher in the lineup).

I think it was Keith talking about practicing that type of scenario. But I think it's more just about awareness. In the shuffle of diving, but not catching, and keeping an eye on the guy on 3rd, he just lost that awareness of the guy standing directly behind him.

And I we have seen that before from Alonso, especially on sharp hit balls to his right. He gets that tunnel vision, sees what's in front of him, but losing who is behind him.

.600 in August.
.444 thus far in Sept.

17 for his last 33 combined. So over .500.

But only 3 walks over that span. Needs to be more selective.
Baseball is a long season and everything generally evens out. But in fairness to Cano, he was hit on the hand 3 times earlier in the season and you wonder how much this impacted his ability to hit effectively etc.

Guy can’t be gone fast enough. It really wasn’t impossible to surmise what needed to be done.

. . . .

I've done all I could to stop knocking you around on this. But you are a willing, even eager, victim. Rosario is hitting better, but still not selective at all. In fact, worse. He should take a pitch from time to time.

Rosario's sitting on 29 walks for the year. That's very low. If he gets one more, it will be the first time he breaks the 30 mark. Even as a free swinger, Cano walks 40, 50, 60 times per year. Rosario's selectivity has dropped. He walked just 4 times in August, and only 1 time in September. It shows in his stats. While he's 4th among NL SS in batting average, he's 9th in on-base-percentage and he's 10th in OPS--each toward the bottom for SS alone. He's 9th among NL SS in runs scored. That's because he's not on base enough, which is because he's not selective. He doesn't even appear to crack the top 150 in the NL in pitches per plate appearance. That's not what you want toward the top of your order. And, even if you have it, you want the rare hitter who isn't selective but has a very high BA. He's not that guy. But he's young, and he'll get better. Part of that will be learning how to take a pitch.
