OT: 2024 NY Jets Season Thread

It's August 1st and It's time
Jets fan since forever here and the only thing I'm optimistic for this year is the uniforms.

Seriously--we're going to roll out a 40 year old QB who is coming off an injury that ruins many players careers. That's where we are pinning our hopes? is there really enough on this team to contend? whats the ceiling this year--9-8? Why are we wasting time . Woody Johnson sell the freaking team. Going to be more of the same I'm afraid but obviously I hope I'm wrong.

I am tempered on my high end expectations because of Rodgers’ age and rust. but 9-8 as a ceiling is ridiculous.

They had 7 wins with the worst QB play in the league last behind one of the worst OLs.

Tyrod Taylor gets last years team to 9-10 wins, and this year’s OL is much better.

I’m actually not a fan of the uniforms, the new version looks a little better than current but can’t compare with the classic Kelly Green with white helmets and trim. As for the upcoming season, their roster is very good with a top level defense and some real difference makers on offense. Hopefully they will stay relatively healthy, luck plays a role. They had to roll the dice with the Rodgers move, they whiffed on the Wilson QB pick and didn’t handle it well. Missing on a very high pick QB usually gets everyone fired, so the GM and HC were in a desperate situation. They have to make the post season or else it will be a house cleaning for next year.

Somehow I am optimistic every year for RU football, but remain stubbornly pessimistic on the Jets. I think the Aaron Rodger’s trade will end up as one of the Jets’ worst-ever trades. Though I do like other pieces on the team.

CMC out for tonight? Nice break for the Jets.
I put $20 on Jordan Mason for anytime TD scorer at +750 earlier today (it is down to +150 now).

I just couldn’t believe they would risk the season by letting CMC play with the dreaded calf tightness/Achilles soreness.

Getting gashed against the run on defense and can’t run block in offense. Not a great combination.

Sauce Gardner hurt his shoulder on a tackle early and was in the game for a while but now is out of the game.

Jets defense looking very suspect. Especially run defense.
Jets play calling has been horrendous. Hackett is very bad.

Jets look awful.

Rodgers looks every bit of 40 years old

OL very shaky.

Defense looks like Swiss cheese.

Salah always looks confused. Chris Ash clone !

His seat getting quite hot !

And let’s not forget the worst gm in football - Joe Douglass

So many awful decisions : Becton / Salah / Zac Wilson / McDonald / Doesn’t draft Bowers / OL always pathetic / Reddick situation etc

Well maybe Rodgers is looking younger than 40 years old after that Lazard TD pass. Lol

You can ride a bike after 10 years off and be perfect at it.
Other skills are called "perishable skills" - they don't come back easy after a long layoff.
Guitar is like that and I imagine playing QB is too.
It will take most of season to get sharper.
Jones was in same boat - he looked lost and stiff

The Jets were overwhelmed by the 49ers tonight. Whatever. Just one game. They can be better next game.

As for Rodgers, he’s clearly the best QB the Jets have had in, what … a decade? He’s got a mastery of the game that is second to none. OTOH, he’s 40 and looks like a guy who doesn’t want to get hit. Still, he’s such a step up from the normal Jet’s jabroni QB machine.

Tyrod Taylor as backup is good, too. Hell, TT is also better than any recent Jets QB.

I thought the Jets were going to be all-around better this year. Maybe the expectations should be rolled back a little - from possibly being one of the best AFC teams to a team that could earn a playoff spot (assuming they play a hell of a lot better going forward).

Yeah, people act like Jets’ fans are all deluded into thinking they are Super Bowl contenders because they have Rodgers, even though he is a 40 year old coming off of an Achilles.

No, a lot of us know the Jets enough to understand that having Rodgers is a big deal because his last year in GB was his worst in GB but would be a top ten all time Jet QB performance. The bar at QB is so low.

They will be better and if Rodgers stays healthy they have a good shot of making the playoffs.

I'm most dissapointed in the defense. The offense with Rodgers definitely showed rust, and was still better than we're used to seeing. The broadcast said last night the jets offense has been historically bad the past several years, which we all knew.
Going into the game, the Jets had 2 DT's inactive. I was a little surprised, and it seemed they'd bump their DE's inside on some plays. The result was getting manhandled and totally unable to stop the run. Embarrassingly weak and soft up front.

Doesn't matter how good Rodgers is going to be, if other teams can smash the ball down the Jet's throats, and keep the offense off the field it'll be a long season.

The Jets got manhandled up front on both sides of the ball. Saleh was Shanahan’s DC and the HC outclassed his former DC. SF is one of the 2 or 3 best teams in the NFL. The Jet defensive problems are fixable, the next game @ Tenn should and must look much different for the Jets.
