OT: 2025 USNews Rankings Released

Wow. RU ranking in with some great company …

1 spot Right behind Wisconsin which has always had such a strong academic reputation for public university. Essentially tied with Ohio St Maryland and Washington

I find it very strange that with the massive increase in applications this year that the acceptance rate is close to where it has been in recent years at 65%

Probably takes time to reverse years of data. I'm thinking the acceptance rate is an average over a certain period of time. It's down 1 point from last year, so...progress.

Rutgers Newark at 80
Rutgers Camden at 98

Have all 3 ever been top 100 before?

Death, taxes, and Rutgers-NB being ranked Numero Uno academically amongst public universities in the Northeast. Tied for 15th with OSU nationally, 7th in the B1G, 41st overall.

Looking at V tech high up as well wondering why they are never in the BIG expansion discussion. I understand the thought is always UVA but personally I'd love to be in a league with VTech again. Maybe they aren't AAU (too lazy to look up)?

They're not but very, very close in terms of AAU status. I'd LOVE VT in the B1G honestly. They fit the B1G more being STEM based than UVA in all honesty.

NC State and Wake made big jumps. And I love that UMass passed UConn for #1 public in New England lol. And if you want to laugh at Seton Hall, just look at the fact that Stockton and Montclair State are ranked higher than them and Rowan is only 6 spots behind.

I love that our B1G academic peers are Wisconsin, OSU, Maryland, Washington, and Purdue. All fantastic universities.

We actually fell one place from 40th in 2024 to 41st. At this point it almost comes down to a rounding error. We are still in very good company. Many here talked in the past about both UWs being targeted academic peers. That has come to fruition.

Love that RU now ranks ahead of my daughter's UMD, lol.

NC State, FSU, and Ohio State were never schools that I revered academically. Either the ranking criteria has changed or these schools have made enormous strides. There is no question that good sports programs attract good students.

Same criteria that helped us helped them as well. I believe more weight is applied toward “socio-economic mobility”.

Great stats, the only "bad" one is being 41 instead of 40.

Unless it's an Ivy or similar, going OOS makes no sense at all.

Taking a look at tuition costs within the rankinga and a very interesting story develops. Some of these private schools are 3-4x public schools who are equal or better ranking.

Also it seems RUs in state tuition is on the much higher end at 17k . University of Florida is like 7k. What a great deal !

Meanwhile a lot of the public schools out of state tuition is much higher than Rutgers 24k. Some schools like Wisconsin are charging over $40k for out of state.

Seems like Rutgers should be increasing the out of state tuition costs , accepting more of those people and then lower the in state cost .

The rankings provide ammunition for parents to argue with their kids to stay in state instead of expensive out of state colleges ranked below Rutgers.

Wake was #47 last year...

I agree, and I think the same about NC State, which isn't AAU but is STEM as Hell ("STEM AF" is how my daughter would put it)...

disclaimer: I still have lots of State friends from my ACC days.

You’re so right if you grew up in NJ it’s Rutgers and nothing else. Must suck to grow up in and around Rutgers and then not get in. Not only must you go somewhere else but you also probably have to pay more to attend a lesser school.

The AAU short list IMO to potentially get invited next is VT, NC State, UGA, and FSU. Wonder if Wake is in the potential convo for AAU as well. Not sure what their research funding looks like.

Great news for the University. We should continue to climb higher with the school now using the common app like so many others.

Penn State dropped and Syracuse, oof. 73 lol!

I am happy to see Rutgers having success in the rankings the past couple of years, but I remain disappointed by the cost of our in-state tuition compared to some of our peers. Fabulous public universities like Purdue, UNC, Wisconsin, Georgia, Florida, Texas, etc. are all significantly cheaper in-state than Rutgers at $17k (Purdue, UNC, Georgia, and Florida are all sub 10k)

Low cost of living states. How do we compare to CA, NY, IL, CT, etc.? That's probably the better comparison.

I agree. There appears to be a very surface level easy option to fix it.

Those same schools charge a lot more for out of state students than Rutgers does AND they accept more out of state than RU does. So seems like we should raise the price for out of state and take more of them. Even if it means fewer in-state , then at least those in staters could be paying much less.

Oh also NJ ranks near the bottom for its funding towards higher education so the state is doing their part to make our costs higher

Our ACC neighbors to the north
have a thread on their board, lamenting their
ranking at 73
Remembering the days when they were nearer to 50

Sweet

It was not long ago that this advertising magazine and their college rankings were decried here. Rightfully so.

Although it’s nice to see higher rankings, the quality of the experience or education is not commensurate with this magazines findings, as their criteria value some things that are meritorious and some that really have no effect on education. Rutgers was solid when it was rang lower and is solid now. Any large state university can afford a thorough and complete education, well, some present a more challenging experience in order to obtain the same. As for private schools, alumni, giving and element and other factors, come into the criteria which really don’t speak to the experience. It’s a pole to sell magazines and should be put in its proper perspective being an AAU. Member is much more important a poll to have succeeded in.

Tell it to the NJ politicians.
