Walking through EWR this morning catching a flight to Portland, ME and who do I see but Shamus from WWE

Guy is huge, but didn’t look in the mood to be bothered, so I left it alone as I didn’t feel like getting laid out at 7am

Other famous people I’ve seen on planes or in the airport include

Jack Cust - MLB
Trech (naughty by nature)
Dolph Ziggler - WWE
Henrik Lundquvist - NHL
Matt Simms - NFL
Some big ass kid that went to Tennessee in CLT
VT d-coordinator in Roanoke
Tons of FSU guys / recruits at TLH
Marty from ESPN
Vanilla Ice

All were super cool sans the VT guy, especially Ice and The King - I even felt bad for calling him Henrik No Cups during his playing days

What say you, any famous people you’ve seen in airports or on flights?

Years ago, George Plimpton at Newark Airport. Not too many years ago … Thad Matta and Joe Benigno, on different occasions, at Fort Myers FL’s Southwest Florida International Airport.

Sat across the aisle from Derek Jeter's parents on a flight to Saint Thomas. Left them alone on the flight, but had an opportunity to say hello while waiting for our bags in the small STT airport. You can instantly tell why DJ is the person he is via his parents.

You may want to keep your eye out for recently fired FSU coaches. Hopefully they’ll get a job in a conference recognized by the bowl championship committee.

Long time ago. Senator Bob Kerry in Denver, just after he took over heading up The New School. He saw me reading Black Hawk Down and commented on meeting those guys on their return as well as the flag draped coffins of the fallen. It was a moment.

They’ll be straight
Buyout money never hurt anyone

Like we saw this past Tuesday, rebounds are fun to witness - especially when everyone counts you out

Only a matter of time before Daddy’s back on top

Was on a flight to Memphis in 2012 or 2013 and Reps. Steny Hoyer and John Lewis were on the flight.. and sitting in coach! Also was on a flight back to Richmond and John Cena was sitting in biz class. When the engines shut down at the gate two young women in the row near me shouted "we love you John Cena!" toward the front of the plane. Folks had a good laugh.

Shortly after Kyle Flood was fired by RU, I saw him down in the Atlanta airport boarding a flight back to EWR. I went up and said hello and wished him well, he was a nice enough guy. I was not surprised a week or so later when it was announced he was hired by the Falcons as an analyst.

Not a name RU football fans may know, and not airport but ran into former RU women’s hoop player Vicky Picutt in NY Penn Station about 10 years after she graduated and she was heading back to Philly where she was asst coach - maybe Temple??

Forgot to mention. Bumped into Biden on an Acela train heading home from DC. He was still a Senator at the time.

Picott is an assistant head coach at Houston now. She's been around as an assistant coach all over the place over the years. Never saw her play in person as it was the Greztz era.

Sat next to jon stewart on a plane long time ago.

Also sat across from larry holmes on another flight.

I've had a pretty good number of these, particularly coming back from sporting events

Some I can recall off the top

Joe DiMaggio
Tiki Barber
Jim Kelly
Barry Switzer (we "talked" Rutgers football. He was nice, but thoroughly unimpressed)
Bill Raftery
Grant Hill
Calvin Hill
Lenny Wilkens
Chris Cuomo (when he had a show)
Goldberg
The Kansas Mens Basketball team

I have flown on many flights with American Hero's numerous times and they were all in uniform respectful and courteous.
I consider them all above and beyond any you have posted here.

Well- have to say that I have seen too many football players on various trips through the years. Was fun to enjoy pizza's and BBQ with a few as well.

The one star that impressed me the most...When my kids from my first marriage were still fairly young, I took them on vacation to Jamaica. On our flight home, Patrick Ewing was sitting first class. I told my boys who it was. This must have been 2004.

We get off the flight. As we get off the plane, Patrick was just casually walking to baggage claim. My boys were just looking at this massive human. He looked over at them with a smile- I said hello and introduced my kids to him. He just chatted them up and about halfway to baggage - my kids tell me they had to pee. I had their bags and mine and Pat looks over and says- "if it is ok with you, I have to stop too, if you are ok to watch all the bags, I would keep an eye on your boys when they are in there."
So- ok- of course that is fine by me.
They come out and on we go to baggage. As we are all waiting- Pat is sitting by himself waiting and my youngest is just there chatting away with him. My son asked if it was ok to get a picture- and Pat very nicely told him that he would prefer not to do that because if 1 person saw him take a picture, then there would be 50 people doing the same and he would never get out of there. So, they just kept talking until everyone's bags came out and on our way.

I still joke with the both of them 20 years later that there aren't that many kids that can brag that they "hung out" literal with Patrick Ewing lol

Was on a flight with Spike Lee from London.

Was on a flight with Mike Piazza from Miami. He reluctantly took a picture with my kids.

Was on a flight with the entire Winnipeg Jets hockey team from Dallas. Teamu Selanne sat right in front of me. This was in 90s and I guess before team charters

As a 10-12 year old, I was amazed to see Rowdy Roddy Piper in line to board a plane walking right past me.
That same day saw other wrestlers that I can’t remember except I think 1 of the wild Samoans.
Harvey Keitel another time.

I don't do airports but I saw Al Roker a lot on MTA (late night) headed north to Yorktown.
He was always nice to everybody

I did get to fly on a private jet with a A list star back in 2002...Pilot was cool as hell. He told me that is she wasn't on board he would have done some rolls but he did let me sit between him and his co pilot for takeoff and landings- on takeoff- went as straight up as I could imagine. I have no idea the angle but it was insane and got up to 40k feet in no time- on coming down- he asked her if she was ok for the bugs bunny and she started laughing and told them to go ahead- straight ass down from 40k to about 5k or so before pulling it level.

So much damn fun. Also cool as it was from Teterboro to LA so a long flight. And up over 40kft it is such a smooth flight.

He’s a good dude. I worked at Georgetown in the summer of 1984 in the athletic dept doing summer sports camps with a few G-town athletes and Patrick was always hanging around making guest appearances. Just an all around good guy back then He also showed up at my uncles funeral with the entire Hoya basketball team a few years ago when he was the coach. Coincidentally John Thompson was at my Grandfather’s funeral in 1984 as well

Back when you were able to go all the way to the gate to pick someone up, I was getting off the plane at LGA and Geraldo Rivera was standing there waiting for someone. I was young but couldn't forget the stash or short shorts.

Not on an airplane but sat next to Greg Allman in a restaurant on a cruise to Bermuda, talked to him for awhile & found out he basically lived on a cruise ship while not touring, he said he goes by the name Mr. Smith on cruises & surprisingly not many people recognize him

Seen random celebs over the years ago at EWR. Anne Hathaway is beautiful on screen and even more attractive in person. Also saw Ivanka Trump some years back. The craziest one was Tracy Morgan. He was being transported on a cart with family members blasting music on an actual physical boom box. Of course with his music playing out loud and very over the top jewelry, he was only asking for more attention and he got it. He got into a verbal argument with other travelers giving him flack and stated out loud "my life is much better than your's". Such class and high character dude.

Yea used to bump into that douche nozzle all the time in the city. For some reason he was in my neighborhood frequently and was always trying not to be noticed by sitting curbside top down (no matter the temp) with music playing at high levels. When people didn’t pay attention to him he would rev the engine and take off at a high rate of speed only to circle the block and come back to same spot.

It was an ongoing joke between me and my buddies. To the point we had an ongoing text chain with Tracy Morgan sightings.

I forgot who it was, but there was a former NFL player who used to walk around in public with his jersey on so people would recognize him

Many years ago I sat next to Morley Safer on a flight from EWR to Chicago; First Class/Business, of course. Short time afterwards, sat at a table next to Mike Wallace at dinner (JoJo) in NYC. My brush with 60 Minutes. LOL.

I have an ammusing quasi-celeb airport story. Every year during mass schools spring break there is a college hockey coaches conference in fla. We were in fla on vacation and there was a who's who of coaches on our Jet Blue back home, including Katie Crowley (BC) and her husband Ted (former NHL guy). So the flight is overbooked and the airline is doing its voucher thing and no one is biting, even for a $1000 voucher, so Ted Crowley jumps up on a chair and takes a hundred dollar bill out and yells I WILL GIVE YOU A HUNDRED DOLLARS TO TAKE THE DEAL. everyone laughs but no takes it. So one by one he keeps taking hundred dollar bills out and holding them over his head until he gets to like 7 or 8 and some dude was like DONE and grabs it and goes up to the desk and everyone cheers.

Coach Schiano on a flight to LAX this past spring. Asked what was the reason for the trip and he just said "business".

Charles Oakly in Miami airport about 25 years ago. NO ONE was going to bother him.

Iron Sheik - Sat next to him from EWR to LAX
JR Richards - Had drinks at the bar in EWR
Tracy Morgan - chatted with him at Metlife (he sits behind me)

Jay Leno - Sat across from him in a restaurant in Burbank.
All the original members of Stone Temple Piolets - met them at Robert DeLeo's house for his wedding rehearsal dinner
Sat with Patrick Dempsy, Mariah Carey and Tommy Matola at the STP wedding (Had drinks and chatted with many others at the wedding)
Heather Graham - Sat next to at a STP concert at Irving Plaza
Had a few Beers with Rob Thomas - Back stage at a STP concert
Robert Weston Smith aka Wolfman Jack - My dad used to work in the NBC building in Rock Center....Talked to Wolfman many a time
William Roberts and Rodney Hampton - Attended a party at my GF's at that time House
Lynn Swan - Would show up at my HS football practice occasionally. Some how he was related to a kid on the team.
Kid Rock - Met him at Kid Rocks in Nashville
Many others in bars and restaurants when I was working in LA and Burbank

I have had a few experiences bumping into people at airports. But maybe the most interesting one was in the Bogotá Colombia airport . I thought I saw a bunch of people walking in the other direction jeering and yelling angrily at me — I thought for a moment they just were hostile to a random gringo face. As it turned out, about a dozen members of the Argentine national soccer team including Maradona were walking right behind me along with some entourage and that was who the jeers and gestures were actually directed at.

I dated a girl who's father was executed at that airport in front of her.
