In case you're in Europe or heading there this week, it gon' be hot! Temps will likely reach the low 90s as far north as the UK with temps over 100F in large parts of Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and several other countries in Western and Central Europe. This is not unprecedented, but it's tough to take after a couple of earlier heat waves the past month or so and significant drought in some of these countries, which could significantly impact some crops. We might even get a modest heat wave around these parts starting on Tuesday.

More frequent extreme heat waves are expected from anthropogenic global warming, but outcomes like disappearing glaciers and sea level rises (almost a foot since 1880 and another foot of rise is expected by 2050) are more obvious impacts from global warming (and extremely unlikely to be due to something else), relative to the increases in global air and sea temperatures. This is especially true in Europe, where we're seeing many European glaciers melting, with up to half of the glaciers in the Alps expected to be completely gone by 2050 at current melting rates (link below). In addition, a recent glacier collapse in the Italian Alps killed 10 hikers and such collapses are likely to become more frequent, under such strong melting conditions.
