OT: Anyone been to Monmouth to bet sports?

Went on Father's Day, and think it is fantastic. we spent a lot of time in there, and made some bets between races. For the second time in 3 years, I won one of the Giveaways on father's day at Monmouth. Two years ago, I won 2 tickets for the Giants vs Falcons opener, and yesterday I won 4 reserve tickets for a Lakewood Blues Claws game. Any home game Sunday through Wednesday. Thinking of going in July when the Mets affiliate comes to town.
Heard the crowd was great as always on Father's Day.

Yes it was a huge crowd.Always a family tradition where both my sons and some relatives about 15 go and we sit by the finish line right behind the benches so you can BYOB and subs. Missed getting in some bets because the lines at the ticket machines were so long, and forget trying to go to the tellers, those lines were unreal. Some people shouldn't try to place their own bets at the machines if they don't know what they want or how to use them.

I've been to Vegas dozens of times. The Monmouth sports book is a nice little venue, but doesn't come close in comparison to the sports book palaces (Westgate, Caesars, Venetian, etc.) in Vegas.

Look who I ran into at the Westgate last August...

Nice. Brent now works with his son at VSIN.com, which is pretty cool to listen to.

Monmouth will have a fancy Vegas-style book in a few years, either in the clubhouse, or in a new building in the parking lot. It is part of William Hill’s deal to have committed to spending at least $5 million more on the facility.

The room at Monmouth Park is just the start for William Hill. It will rival Vegas when finished. And doesn't Brent work there now?

You should sit upstairs, lines are much shorter & most self bet machines don't have a line. Fathers Day at Monmouth Park is also one of our traditions.

We've been told no coolers allowed up there, so we sit under the shade, but maybe for placing bets on a crowded day, I'll keep that in mind.

Sunday was INSANE at Monmouth Park. I stayed for the first 3 races, and the lines were so long I didn’t even get bets in for race 2 & 3. Pissed me off too because I was fourth in line when Race 3 went off & I would have hit the trifecta.

I dropped a $25 bet on the Eagles to win the super bowl at 8.5/1 & mailed it to my dad for Father’s Day. You can pretty much bet on any sport, including the WNBA & nascar. Minimum bet is $2. I can’t wait for football season. That will be my regular Friday stop for idiot teaser bets.

I played saturday and hit the Denmark/Mets parlay. The bad news is now I have to go back to cash. Not a bad setup but I didn't have time to check out the bar or upstairs area. Saturday's card was dreadful. Hopefully this will pump some quality into the fields.

Every Father's Day has been mobbed for as long as I can remember. Picnic area is Haskell like. Building isnt that bad.

Forgot to mention,I won't have to pay for parking or admission the rest of our trips to Monmouth this summer, since they give you a free parking voucher and/or free admission for each bet you make at William Hill. I have enough between what my son and I bet to cover everyone in my family that wants to go,lol

Same here as I miss those tickets I used to get from a buddy,to bet college and NFL games where you circle the numbers. Used to love it when the college games came through and it made a couple of NFL games interesting that never would have been of interest to me otherwise. That friend got PTI for selling those, so it's been years since I knew anyone for that, lol.:joy:

I was there today. Made one bet. Phils had Nola going in Milwaukee. The run line (-1.5) was +150. It was 10-5 going to the bottom of the 9th. Then Hector Neris happened. My first NJ bet becomes my first bad beat. 10-9 final.

That is why you never bet the run line. More people get killed with the run line that is not funny. Stick with the money line get on a hot team, manage your money correctly (same amount every game....can not pick and chose to go heavy here and light there) and you may stand a chance.

I know. It was only because it was my first bet, I'm a Phillies fan, and I saw something that didn't seem right to me. Clearly Hector Neris took care of that for me. By the way, that bum was sent to AAA the next morning.
As a side note, I once read about a system where you basically bet 10% of your money on the money line of each home underdog for an entire baseball season. I did it for an entire baseball season and I think I ended up 4 or 5 times richer. Unfortunately, I only started with $100, but if you have the means, this system really does work. You'll be betting Padres over Yankees in San Diego and wonder why, but when you hit 1 or 2 per day, it ends up making you a good profit.

in baseball it is very difficult to sweep on the road so your system may work. Not sure the dollars but if the yanks are against a bad team they may be favored by 1.5 runs so the money line for the underdog may be to bet $10 to win like $15. If the yYanks win 2 of 3 on the road you would have beet $30 to win $25 but if the road team steals a 2nd game then you have bet $30 to win $50.

I have friends that follow that. Like you said you have to bet on every home dog. It is nice when you hit those +180 etc.....It is when you start picking and choosing things go south fast. This of course one has the means to sustain the system and ride the highs and lows.

Didn't the rule in pro football used to be "bet the dog at home?" This sounds like the same thing.

Yes, I do not know how true it is anymore but that was a big one that people used to live by. There was another one too, never bet a team that played on the Monday prior. "Play on Monday lose on Sunday"

Hmmm....maybe you’ll see me there.

Glad the Mets affiliate gets up here a little later in the season now.

Well now, this is gonna suck, and stupid on their part. It will kill attendance. How many people can fit, or want to watch a race from those picnic areas? Didn't think they'd get so high class,"pro sports book" and kill the patrons that keep them afloat. Fu#k them.

Whitebus, I would really like your take on my post about banning coolers.Big mistake that starts today, little warning for those that planned events this weekend. A real slap in the face to those who keep it a float. This will back fire on them big time. Anyone who has ever gone and seen how big a crowd there is track side, and how overfilled the waste baskets are with empty bottles who know there are tons of patrons who love the BYOB aspect of going to Monmouth.

This is nothing new. Coolers have been banned from inside the building for years. Just not inforced much since Aramark was running concessions. Coolers still allowed in picnic area. Except for Fathers Day and Haskell Day they do a great job keeping it clean. Im seeing the faux uproar on Twitter from people who didn't read the policy.

Upstairs yes, but never down by the benches where the majority of the BYOB crowd gathers. This is a new rule as of today. We always, for years, have loaded up our coolers with refreshments and sandwiches and parked ourselfs near the finish line down track side. This will not be allowed starting today. Big mistake.

What? This brand new. Checkout the Facebook comments, people are furious.

When Aramark owned the concession they enforced this rule. Aramark has been gone for years so it wasnt enforced. Im a big fan of the picnic area anyway so this doesnt affect me at all. My friends and family usually grab a table or two closer to the parking lot in the shade. Love it there. Nothing stops you from going track side to watch the races.
As long as they dont totally eliminate allowing coolers in like Parx did I really have no problem with it.

Hate the picnic area, and this will kill them. Heard they tried this a few years ago and it lasted one weekend,so way more feel the way I do.Waiting on an article from APP on this,it should be a good read.

It lasted a whole summer about 8 years ago. There was one section of benches on the apron that was BYOB. Aramark was trying to get a better deal and enforced their rights under contract to bar coolers in areas they served. Monmouth refused to resign them after deal expired. This isn't about security, it' about money.

Of course it's about money. watch how many people who would have gone to make it a day,bet horses, and stroll over to the sports book, decide to say F'this, and just bet online when it's ready. Slap in the face to the locals and regulars that loved to stay down by the finish line.

Also, I'd never give these vendors a dime now if they pushed for this, especially Max's Hot Dogs. When that old bag owner was alive, she was the nastiest to her workers and Son in law.He must have thrown a huge party when she kicked the bucket, lol, except his wife, picked up right where she left off. As a kid I used to go to Max's when it was on the boardwalk in Long Branch. She had all these pictures of Celebrities that signed pictures with her, when that building burnt to the ground along with most of the boardwalk, guess where those pictures showed up? In her new building on the Highway, lol, yea hello!!!! Can someone say Fraud?

I did hear about the incident from last year. It was more than underage drinking. It involved fighting and vandelism of cars in the parking lot.
Always thought that bottles on the apron would force this decision not underage drinking.
Either way a poor job by Monmouth Park to annouce this. Im guessing something happened on Fathers Day to bring on swift change. Monmouth Park has always been awful getting the word out.

That excuse is as phony as RU's gate policies.

1. It does nothing to stop underage drinking because what is carried in by a fifty year old can still be handed to a twenty year old in the picnic area

2. It does nothing to prevent an of-age person buying a beer in the grandstand or clubhouse and handing it to an underage person back at their seats

3. It prevents non-drinkers from bringing in soda, sandwiches and snacks for themselves and their families in the grandstand and apron. If alchohol is the justification for the new rules, why can't I bring in a few soda bottles and sandwiches?

My Uncle was NJ's top Adminstrative Law Judge for 15 years. Handled many ABC cases where licenses were pulled permanently and owner tried in court to get it back. Also signed off on suspending licenses. If the ABC "recommends" a change take it as a demand because there are no 3 strikes in that game.
Picnic area is easier to control. Within the property there is only one way out, towards the clubhouse.

Lagasse's is one of the more upscale sportsbooks in Vegas with a steep food and beverage requirement . It wouldnt surprise me to see something similar in a casino like The Borgata .
How steep is steep? I can see a steep beverage requirement if you are hanging around for 4 hours but I only need one meal in that timeframe
