OT: Anyone been to Monmouth to bet sports?

My Uncle was NJ's top Adminstrative Law Judge for 15 years. Handled many ABC cases where licenses were pulled permanently and owner tried in court to get it back. Also signed off on suspending licenses. If the ABC "recommends" a change take it as a demand because there are no 3 strikes in that game.
Picnic area is easier to control. Within the property there is only one way out, towards the clubhouse.

I understand that, but if that is concern, why restrict me from bringing in a cooler of sodas? What does that have to do with the ABC?

Man power and timing. That would require going through every single cooler in a short time frames as most people arrive with a 1/2 hour of first post. The ABC has seen it all. Their recommendations (if true) usually are followed to the letter and beyond.
When this happened years ago there was a single section of benches on the apron that allowed it. Most people figured ways to deal with it [winking]

How steep is steep? I can see a steep beverage requirement if you are hanging around for 4 hours but I only need one meal in that timeframe

The price varies considerably at Lagasse's Stadium based on the sporting event. For an NFL Sunday you're looking at $100 per person minimum for the stadium seating. For March Madness this year it was $300 per person.

In the past in Vegas, many sportsbooks would give you free drink tickets when you placed a bet though that has begun to change with some books more willing than others.

$100 isn't bad. $300 is crazy.

Thanks. I can understand that. I would have liked to have seen a different solution but I can understand why they chose this one.

I fear it won't be long before you hear about a mugging walking to your car at night at Monmouth Park. The parking lot is not lit well, and the lots closest to the Sports Bet Room are coned off, forcing you to park past the 4 lines of Handicap Parking.Facing the back of the park, the lot to the right, which I've used in the past had cars in it, but was also coned off, maybe for the workers only? If anyone sees you cashing out a good amount of money and leaving,it could be a problem.

And why couldn't that have been a problem before the sports book?

Lagasse's is one of the more upscale sportsbooks in Vegas with a steep food and beverage requirement . It wouldnt surprise me to see something similar in a casino like The Borgata .

I have only been to Lagasse's the past 3 years during the conference college basketball tournaments the week prior to March Madness. So not as busy of course. But on a regular day to have a meal and watch the PAC 12 tournament there was no requirement at all. Wife and I could get a burger and a beer and no issue with that. Wife gets comped at Venetian / Palazzo, so we play there a bit and it's easy to rack up comp dollars and even spend those at Lagasse's on the meal. The only issue I had with that place is it closed extremely early for Vegas -- I believe by 10pm.

I know that any customer is allowed to ask for a security escort to the parking lot, as well as the option of being paid winnings in a private area.

There will be a lot of physical changes made after the racing season is over.
Has there ever been a mugging in Oceanport?

Of course it was several tears ago but I worked right outside the lots for 10-11 years. We had people working into the night. Never heard of a single incident.

Has to be one of the safest towns in NJ. Part of the reason is you know not f around with their police.

Oceanport is very safe but Long Branch is a stones throw away

Got to be aware of your surroundings anywhere you go these days.
So? The racetrack and sports book are still in Oceanport. The areas of Long Branch near the track are very safe as well. My friend owns the oldest continuous business in Long Branch on Rt 36 and has never had any trouble.
Since the Sports Book opened after the track opened not much could be done to change parking and entrances. But along with all the new tvs and gaming boards their is an increased level of security at Monmouth.

Harmless degenerates.
Your confidence is not shared here. I know a city zoning official for Long Branch, and some of the stuff he has told me is pretty hideous. As was stated,it's a stone throw away from Monmouth, and though I like the Race Room at Borgata way better, I've been to the Simulcast Room at Monmouth in the winter on two occasions. To call the cast of characters harmless degenerates is a compliment to say the least. The other night, it was a lonely walk to the parking lot. No security whats so ever once you left the building!!! They must have been on break, hence my post.:flushed:

Seriously, you are comparing Oceanport NJ to Atlantic City and you feel safer in the cesspool called Atlantic City?? You have lost your mind.
Oceanport is a stones throw away from Long Branch but the bad area of Long Branch isnt even close to the track. When you are in any casino you are in Atlantic City. No stone throwing needed.
And I have never seen a single security guard in any parking lot in AC since gambling began there. Stop with your nonsense.

I go to Borgata quite often. Was there to bet sports last Saturday. Almost every time I am there, I see a security guard driving around the surface lot right outside the sportsbook / racebook. Just mentioning...

Question for those that have been to AC or Monmouth to bet and won. Do they take tax out on all winnings or do you have to collect over a certain amount like $599?

No they do not tax out on all winnings. I luckily had 6 winners to cash in at Borgata and it was same process as at any Vegas sportsbook.

Interesting I remember reading an article that said tax in a brick and mortor was around 8% and 13% online.

Don't quote me on this, but I think that is actually for the corporation running the book. In the case of Borgata, that would be MGM Resorts. That is the tax they are paying on house winnings I believe.

used to be 300-1 or above was taxed. Not sure what is current practive.

William Hill Monmouth Park sportsbook rules are:*
- wins over 300-1 or better are automatically taxed as you collect.
And
- if you make $10,000 in total wagers or collect $10,000 in winning tickets cashed IN ONE DAY, you have to fill out a W9 form for their records. They insist they do not share this with anyone, it is a way to track and remind the high rollers that they would be responsible for declaring it on their taxes in April.

I was told that borgata asks high rollers for their social security number , but not on a w9 form.

* I am 100% certain of this information, because it could not come from a clearer, more authoritative source than the one I got it from.

Check this out.....

https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2018/06/04/nj-sports-betting-fees/

"On Monday, lawmakers decided the tax on a person placing a bet on pro sports at casinos and racetracks will be 9.75 percent, or 13 percent if you do it online.

It’s free with an illegal bookie. So what will bettors do?"

To use your original analogy, Borgata on the bay is the Brigantine/Oceanport of AC. Plenty of security at Borgata,as my wife and I go twice a month and NEVER feel unsafe. We get more comps at Bally's and Caesars as far as free rooms go, since their tied to Harrahs which we go to a lot. Staying on the boards doesn't even come close to feeling safe like on the Bay. Hence the reason Borgata and Harrah's are by far the top 2 casinos in AC. That's the main reason!!!

I agree that the bay is a much better than the city but if you want to talk a stone's throw right across 30 from the Borgata is all the public housing and possibly the worst hood in AC.
If you go down alot and looking for a different place to eat and watch sports try St. George's Pub in Brigantine. First right after the the bridge

Years ago, I hooked up with this somewhat skanky cocktail waitress from The Trop, she had a good bod but was definitely SJ WT and an alcoholic

She was staying at the Fox Manor Motel across Pacific Ave. .
Talk about a dump, I was blitzed so I stayed the night over there with her.

Horrid conditions in the room and hallways, you couldnt pay me enough to shower there.

I think I took an hour long shower at The Trop that morning
