OT: Anyone been to the Jersey Shore yet

People do seem to be spacing much better on the beach this year, presumably due to Covid. But Saturday was the first really hot day, once it gets hotter they will cram closer to the water. I do wish there was a way to enforce a policy of arrival time corresponding to allowed locations to setup shop. It would be almost impossible to enforce unfortunately.

I also went to Squan on Thursday and it seemed very crowded for a weekday before school dismissals. I was theorizing that perhaps a fair amount of renters are down more often/earlier due to being laid off or work from home.

It's been a real issue on Main Beach. They stopped people from entering last weekend due to overcrowding and yes it's been apparent that folks are staying whereas they would head out on Sunday in year's past. Like you said they have no reason to leave.

We sit on Brielle Rd. It's crowded but more spread out than years past, unscientifically. Main beach is definitely crowded. If you go two blocks south of Pompano its almost empty, every day. Max capacity per entrance makes sense every year since there's always room further down the beach. The parking is just all concentrated between Pompano and Main, so people who park a 15 minute walk away don't want to walk further I suppose.

Try to find a new bike at most bike shops!

Seems many are looking for the old beach cruiser style bikes.

Something I noticed about kids around here. Mom and dad don't drive them anywhere. Sometimes you'll see a group of 10-15 biking around together. Those not biking are on skateboards.

Old school. If I asked my father to drive me somewhere he'd ask if my legs were broken.

Ha. Same here. I rode my bike to school in 7th and 8th grades everyday (10 miles a day) even through the winter to avoid getting up an hour before to take the bus. After that I couldn't ask for a ride anywhere.

There's a small fenced in area on the beach between Brielle and Pompano. Apparently while the beach was closed some fairly rare species of shore bird decided to claim part for a nest. The fence is so idiots don't get too close.

I'm holding out til the bars are open to get the true experience I'm used to
Don't worry Bar A is putting on the final touches. One of the owners side businesses is excavation and dumpsters(bar runs it's self and he got bored), I use Dickie and his son for my excavation and when I need dumpsters. They just did a huge project for me out at my farm. I believe they open on Monday and just outside seating as they put up more tents.

Same down here even the older kids bike vs car. My 22 year old had a few friends over Saturday night which turned into a lot of friends before the night was over. At one point there were probably 30-40 bikes in my driveway, on the lawn, etc. No worries about drunk driving just drunk cycling

Yes you must wear a mask when going into the Pavilion snack bar. Was just there yesterday at South end! Sundae times ice cream also requires a mask.

Back when Sundae was "Peterson's", my Sisters worked there on the salt water taffy machine in the window.

Mrs. Peterson catches a kid stealing tips for the waitresses. She yelled at him (she was a large Lady) and he wet himself he was so scared.
Good times...

We used to have a locker at the North End. Whenever I/NJSP had Monmouth Park Track detail (the stop light controls, before the locals took it over). Would run one light and then drive down to SL and park the Troop car. Go down to our locker, change into swim gear, meet Mary Anne and young Mad Dog and get some sun and waves. When the 7th race was due would shower, dress and Mach 1 back up to the stop light.

Like when people say Avon with a long A or add the “by the Sea” part the beach cruiser is used for profiling. If you’re on a Diamondback or a Mongoose, you ain’t from around these parts. LOL

And yeah, unless it’s lightning out (rain doesn’t matter) my kids and all my nieces and nephews were on their bikes.

Since the beach towns are all K-8 one of the neatest small town tradition things around here is when the whole 8th grade meets at one kid’s house on their last day and they all bike to school together. With a police escort. Very cool to see up close.

Smart adults around here do it too. But if you want to make sure you get your own bike for the ride home, you lock it. As after midnight, they all look the same. LOL

Anyone who wants to see true social distancing, hit Pompano Beach here. Sometime in the last few weeks an American Oystercatcher decided to build a nest and lay two eggs right in the middle of the beach. I understand they're making a comeback after losing so much of their nesting grounds over the years. The town I assume came and put up a fence around the nest on three sides giving the bird about a 25' x 20' area all to itself. didn't even require the little thing to buy a season badge which was nice.

This is what they look like. Never saw one before.

I thought it was the Piping Plover everyone freaks out over?

Of course, as steep as Alp d'Huez. HA! Actually incredibly flat.

True story. I lived at the bottom of a steep street that then went downhill in the other direction. I literally had to walk to and from the bus stop uphill both ways. My sons did not believe me, until I took them to the house I grew up in and showed them the bus stop on the other side of the hill. Good times.

I am a proud graduate of Sandpiper’s nursery school, which was a few doors down from Petersons. It later became a nice little restaurant, before being torn down and turned into homes.

Moved on to Saint Catherine’s after that!

We Presbyterians and Methodists kids were afraid to ride our bikes near St Cath, we had heard all about the Nuns with the rulers !

Fun was to be stopped by tourists, before they were Bennies, asking for directions and send them the wrong way. We didn't have to go to confessions....

Other than a house party the PD eventually broke up it was pretty quiet in my area. Much quieter than when the bars are open.

The bike cops were up and down my area all night...but I saw a video of a place on the river that was blasting music into the late hours.

I sit at Brielle too. Oddly, Sunday was way more packed than Saturday...Saturday was the nicer beach day IMO. Sunday had some clouds. Sunday people were more dense.

Tacoholics and Playa Bowls also both had big lines Sunday.

My buddy Joe at Surf Shack Deli at the corner of 2nd and Brielle is the way to go. Has Boars Head and decent food, never too busy. Prices are comparable to boardwalk pricing, never a long line.

Saturday was pretty hot especially before the wind kicked up. That's seems to be a near fail proof trend the last few years - the wind kicks in at 11 or so and bails us out on the hot days.

I like the Italian sub there, otherwise for daytime food nearby I would go fo 1st Ave Pizza, Tacoholics or Playa Bowls.

Leggetts' food is good but they raised prices to the point it's easier to order delivery.

It was very nice today although it got windier as the day went on. Not a great umbrella day for those who use such things.

Today I was working in Wall. I had to drive the short stretch of 138/195 to Rt.34 today several times to get material for my guys. Seemed like 1/3 of PA was headed down the shore today. Most traffic I've seen since the start of this whole thing. That dude @PSUPride1 must have a lot of friends.

I think Leggetts food is diner quality, and many things are pretty expensive. Their pizza is the best thing on the menu but I can eat a whole pie its so thin. But I do love that bar and have spent many a forgotten night there.

As for 1st Ave or Gee Gees, I just can't bring myself to eat pizza on a hot summer day for lunch unless I'm super hungover. You couldn't pay me to wait in that line at Playa Bowls. I do want to try Tacoholics but I'm loyal/physically closest to Surf Shack. I'll try it out once I get sick of Surf Shack.

Are they sold out of a lot of models.

I have the misfortune of needing a new bike. At first when things shut down, thought it would be a good year ...but not looking great!

By chance, was Mrs. Peterson's first name Bess?

Most are sold out except extremely high end. I just ordered a single/fixed gear and part of the decision was I can get it at the end of June. There was Milwaukee bike I loved. In Scarlet red too but backordered 8 weeks. Part of my N+1 program!

Brigantine Beach had a lot of people on Saturday but the beach is pretty big so there is plenty of space. I saw just as much Rutgers gear as Penn State which is a good thing. Thought I was alone.

If you want big go to Wildwood from the boardwalk to the water seems like 3/4 of mile. I don't get the attraction of the beach in Wildwood. The town is great.
