My brother and I are flying out tommorow for the Birds - Boys game. Friday we are driving down to austin and then driving back up to Dallas for for the rest of the weekend. Can anyone share sum recommended activities for the city- if u ever been

Austin check out UT - the campus is really nice and the stadium is crazy!! Also we went to their state house & state museum, which was truly incredible. Ate at Guerro's, amazing Texas-Southwest Mexican. Unlimited chips and homemade salsa/dips bar.

Old Fort Worth Stockyards.
Texas School Book Depository and the grassy knoll. You'll realize just how easy those shots were despite all the claims from the conspiracy nut jobs .

I lived in Dallas for 25 years. The best men's entertainment clubs in the entire country. Baby Dolls, Million Dollar Salon, The Men's club, etc.

I believe The Million Dollar Saloon is now closed but it was the best one I have ever been too!

I went to the Spearmint Rhino there and it was quality.

Austin is the best city in Texas, but many Texans consider it "not the real Texas." In fact some refer to it as Austin, California. It has a great music and bar scene. Go see the bats at the bridge (not sure if is the right season) and the hill country and lakes are scenic. I also always visit the local campus (visit the UT Tower and get a shooters eye view of the campus). On the Dallas side, AT&T Stadium is just as close to Fort Worth as Dallas. The Fort Worth Stockyards are worth a visit (a bit touristy but has an old west feel). When in Fort Worth check out TCU. In Dallas the Texas School Book Depository and Dealey Plaza are a MUST (it is amazing how compact the whole area is). If you're a conspiracy dunce there is a conspiracy museum nearby. Out near Love Field you can get a look at SMU. They often say Dallas is the western-most Eastern city and Fort Worth is the eastern-most Western city.

Went to the Lyndon Johnson Presidential Library in Austin, on the UT campus, this summer. If you are into history, this would be a good stop.

Smart.

Seems like a lot of driving in one day (3+hrs going, 3+hrs coming) to just barely scratch the surface in Austin. Recommend saving it for another trip (or at least stay one night and then head back on Sat afternoon) and try to make the most of your visit to the big D, the LA of Texas. Check out Fort Worth (stockyards) if you have time.

If your going to drive to Austin you might as well drive to Vegas. j/k 6th Street haven't been there in years but I gave 110% when I was there

if you are just a couple of guys out for some sports fun stop by one of the locations of the "bikini Sports Bar and Grill" in Texas. It is like a Hooters with girls dressed sexier than Tilted Kilt.

Two weeks ago I was in Dallas on a Thursday night for a work event, and then drove down to Austin Friday and Saturday with some clients for the UT vs. Iowa State game.

In Dallas, if you're looking for night life, avoid the "downtown" area. Stay just north of the city, and you have some good bar/restaurant options in the Lower Greenville part of Dallas. Also, close to the SMU campus near University Park there is some decent night life options.

In Austin, we went to dinner at Bob's steakhouse which was great. We ate a steak dinner up on the rooftop bar which was a cool scene. Definitely go to 6th street, pick a bar with a rooftop so you can watch the people traffic down on the street and enjoy. Tons of great music and great atmosphere.

Beware, i just did the Dallas to Austin drive and it's kind of a bear. Just long, flat, and not much to see. You will drive through Waco and right past the Baylor stadium which you can see from the highway.

Let me know if you have any specific restaurant or hotel questions. I'm in Dallas a ton for work and this was my 2nd trip to Austin.

Last time I was in Dallas I went only to Dealey Plaza. Next time I'd do the whole JFK assassination tour: Dealey Plaza, Texas Theater, Oswald's house at 1026 N. Beckley, E 10th and Patton where Tippit was shot, take the ride from Dealey to Parkland hospital ( that bloody ride must have been hell on earth).

I spent a few days in Dallas for a conference a couple years ago. I spoke to several locals and they all fed me the same line: unfortunately, the only must-see tourist attraction in downtown Dallas is a crime scene.

If you are staying in Downtown Dallas, check out Klyde Warren Park, its a park built over the highway and a Rutgers alum was heavily involved in its development. It is in the Arts District between Downtown and Uptown.

Never been a fan of Dallas when comparing to other Texas cities. Austin is the clear favorite, but I'd take Houston over Dallas. But there is some good 'Q to be found at Pecan or Lockharts Smokehouse, and the Ginger Man has a great beer menu.

Sorry if this is too late, but as other members have stated Austin isn't exactly around the corner from Dallas - it's a solid 3 to 3.5 hours or more if you hit rush hour north of the city. IMHO not worth it for 1 night.

If you get back in time take the 35 split and head to FW. Great little downtown with bars and restaurants. Stop by Mi Cocina for some Tex-Mex and have a Mambo Taxi (but not too many or they will kick your butt). Also, the Stockyards is fun (extremely casual attire if you go). Several places to stop in for a beer (you can even walk around with one in hand if I'm not mistaken). If you can two-step check out PR's. If the weather is good you will be in for a treat - short skirts and boots.

If you want night life go to Uptown Dallas. Stick to and around McKinney Ave and you'll have a great time. I just did San Antonio then Austin this week for work and now home in Dallas. The thought of doing a road trip to either is unsettling right now. :)

Appreciate all the info everyone. This ride to Austin is soaking up alot of precious time.. But we'll make the best of it. Thanks again
