Okay guys I am counting on you to steer me to the best cheese steak in Monmouth, Middlesex, Somerset and Union Counties. I do not want to go to Philly or South Jersey for a cheese steak. There has to be something in Central NJ. Help I am having a craving.

They have a great Cheesesteak place on Easton Ave. right around the corner from Scarlet Fever its a pizza place. I had a cheesesteak there when I went to pick up the new canopy. I can't remember the name exactly but I think it was Jersey Pizza or something I will look it up and try and find it.

Dear sweet lord, the OP just wants to find a cheese steak near her. We know, we know, your specific opinion of what is and is not central Jersey is obviously, and self evidently, correct and everyone else is an idiot for thinking otherwise.

Fortunately, she listed exactly which counties she meant, so we can skip all that and answer her question. Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer.

I grew up in Green Brook which is in Somerset County which is in Central Jersey. There I have spoken and that is the end of this debate! Now back to the cheese steak discussion.

Agree. The poor woman is jonesing for a delicious cheesesteak at midnight and even specifies the Geo range of where she is willing to travel for it, and yet these yoyos get into a pissing match about what is and what isnt CNJ while ignoring her culinary request. The poster who went to the trouble of displaying the map of NJ wins the prize IMO.

OK with that out of the way can we offer some cheesesteak suggestions for Scarletwoman in Monmouth, Middlesex, Somerset or Union County ? My only suggestion is Joes Meat Market in South Bound Brook. Not especially known for his cheesesteaks, but everything he makes is good. Good place to hit before a tailgate at HPSS and he offers a discount on game day to anyone wearing RU gear.

Dominick's Pizza at the Somerville circle has good cheese steaks.

R1776U, now that you learned that Middlesex County, which is where RU is, is in Central Jersey, can we get you out of the house for the next home game?
middlesex is north jersey and i know where RU is as i have been to many games in the past... stop police harassment, and lower the friggin prices all around and i might consider going to another game at RUTGERS stadium... chances of both those things happening are slim though..

That was like 12 hours ago. If she hasn't found a cheesesteak by now, maybe she should have tried Yelp.

Aside from that, she really isn't going to get the answer she is looking for. She's going to get a very long list of pizzerias and grills that make cheesesteaks to order, some better than others. But none will be like a steak shop in Philly that does nothing but churn out cheesesteaks to lines of people.

I know this isnt central jersey, but in Wayne right by Depaul Catholic is a place called Fri Guyz cheesesteaks, anyone in the area should give it a try

Any sporting event frequent can tell you it isn't expensive to go to an RU game. Some High School football games charge 1/2 the price of cheaper RU game tickets. Professional games cost 2 to 3 times more.

The reason why visitors get such good seats at RU games is because they are willing to spend the $ for expensive seats since they are so used to it.

Actually there's a lot of places that make better cheesesteaks than those tourist traps in philly.

Jim's on South street is the only one I think worth waiting in line for.

I was actually thinking of Jim's when I wrote that. But there are other places (with shorter lines) that continuously have steaks on the grill. They're just going to have better steaks, since that is what they do, than places where someone throws the meat on the grill and then walks away to make pizza or slice a ham sub. (Bread is another reason that it is harder to find a good steak in central NJ.)

You are right. I may make it a day tomorrow in Philly. Thanks to the ones that replied to what I asked. The others can pound.

Jersey Mikes makes a great cheesesteak no joke.

As much as I hate to say it, this is correct. I bring home food a lot (my schedule is pretty bad these days) and I get requests for Jersey Mike's over a Philly transplant's awesome cheesesteak place because of "the ratio of meat to cheese." I prefer the Philly guy's place, because the cheesesteaks are huge. But I can offer you a second-hand rave review for Jersey Mike's.
