Piscataway, N.J. – Freshman Izaiah Brown (Amsterdam, N.Y.) was named Big Ten Outdoor Freshman of the Year, the conference announced Tuesday.

"That is a great honor for Izaiah," said head coach Mike Mulqueen. "There are some real outstanding freshmen in the Big Ten. It shows what the coaches in the conference think of his performances."Brown earned the designation after securing the Big Ten title in the 400m during the outdoor championships, held May 13-15 in Lincoln, Neb. Brown also helped the Scarlet Knights capture a season-best time of 3:07.21 in the 4x400m relay, good for fifth in the heat. Brown demonstrated why he is one of the fastest athletes in the nation last weekend at Ed Weird Stadium during the outdoor championships, capturing first place in the 400m with a time of 45.27, a personal best and school outdoor record. Brown currently owns the third-fastest time in the east region and the sixth-best time in the country. This is Brown’s second freshman of the year award from the conference, as he was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year at the end the indoor season. Brown was also selected by the league’s coaches as the Big Ten Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, as well as Indoor Track Athlete of the Championships at the conclusion of the indoor conference event in Geneva, Ohio.

Great job. I thought Ohio State's Nick Gray , also a freshman, who won the 100 and 200 might be named.the winner.
