OT: Does basketball need centers today with so much emphasis on 3-pt shooting

Centers can't get easy baskets if they haven't mastered the fundamentals of scoring in the post and don't have coaches that are capable of teaching it.

Exactly.

Centers do not equal "easy baskets".

The concept that you need easy baskets late in the NCAA toruney is true.
But that means having someone who can get or create their own shot.

Doesn't necessarily mean you need a "traditional center".
UVA didn't even start a center in the 2019 tournament.

The shooting just keeps getting better. I am guessing when the 3 point line was being put down they never expected players were going to be this proficient from beyond the line.
.

Agreed. I remember in the 1980’s when college hoops was experimenting with the proper distance for the 3 point line, the A10 chose 19’9”, the top of the key, which was the distance eventually chosen after that experimental season.

The ACC chose and played with something like 17’9 or 17’7”. It looked wierd as the line crossed through the foul line/top of the key area. Way too close and evidence that shooting has improved and the NCAA was not sure what the distance should have been.

The highest percentage 3 pt. shot is the inside out one. Great passing centers make better 3 pt. shooters.
