I think there are far too many good movies making that favorite BAD movies list.. so lets see what you say your FAVORITE good movies are. Don't just post a list of AFI's Top 100 or something.. just give us names of movies you think are good that make your FAVORITES list.

Here's mine.. not in a specific order, just as they come to me..

Casablanca
The Quiet Man
Treasure of Sierra Madre
The Thing
A whole bunch of Hitchcock films.. like To Catch a Thief, Rear Window
Godfather
True Grit (orig and remake)
There Will Be Blood
No Country for Old men
There's Something About Mary

10/11 is enough. but I would have a huge number of GOOD films among my favorites.

Here's a bonus thing to think about if you are a Casablanca fan.. what would it be like if remade today to appeal to millennials (or made by millennials)?

Rosemary's Baby
The Shining
Requiem for a Dream
Little Children
Invasion of the Body Snatchers 78
Fast Times At Ridgmont High
Heathers
Carrie
The Bad Seed
Dressed to Kill
Giant

Lol I hated No Country for Old Men.

If "good" means it was up for at least an award...

Gladiator
Shawshank Redemption
Cinderella Man
League of Their Own

I liked Mad Max Fury Road but I am still dumbfounded by how many Oscars it won. Its storyline could have very well put it on the bad list.

I read a bunch of Cormac McCarthy before seeing the movie so maybe I just had an affinity for it because it respected the book fairly well.

About MMFR.. yeah.. as I read the favorite BAD movie posts I thought that many of these are just good movies with stories you would think would produce a bad movie.

As for measuring GOOD vs BAD movie.. perhaps the true test is if you mention the movie to a room full of random people, would they say "good movie" or "bad movie"... and for the other thread.. "that's so bad, its good"... like the first Sharknado.

It's a Wondeful Life
Casablanca
Maltese Falcon
Charade
North by Northwest
A Christmas Story
Pulp Fiction
The Sting
INvasion of the Body Snatchers (original)
Godfather 1 and 2
The Outlaw Josie Wales

Some light-hearted ones not often mentioned that I like:
Cabin in the Sky
Father Goose
The Major and the Minor
The Time of their Lives
Abbot ans Costello Meet Frankinstein

Fargo, Shawshank Redemption, Godfather, Alien, Butch Cassidy, Man Who Would Be King, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Avatar, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Terms of Endearment, The Revenant, No Country For Old Men, Pulp Fiction, King Kong - original, The Thing - original, Dances With Wolves, Brother Where Art Thou, Close Encounters, True Grit - remake. Did I forget any?

The Game
Memento
The Last Waltz
Tombstone
The Phoenix

Awesome list. The Last Waltz was one I happened upon on a plane - engrossing look at an incredible concert.

Never saw The Phoenix, but will look for it based on our complete agreement on the rest of the list. Is it the 2014 film about post-WWII? (Shows up as just "Phoenix" on search).

Others on my list, off the top of my head:

The Sting
The Great Escape
Goodfellas
Locke
The Game (ETA: missed this in LocalDC's list since first time around - like the list even better on second read!)

In no order:

Groundhog Day
Defending Your Life
Annie Hall
Cloud Atlas
Godfather (part 1 and 2)
Heartbreak Kid (original, although the remake is worth a watch too)
Heaven Can Wait
Joe Versus the Volcano
As It Is In Heaven
The Sting

Yes, I guess it is just Phoneix...amazing premise and there is a moment at the end that I could watch 100 times
a genius piece of work..hope you enjoy!
and now I'll have to watch Locke..never saw that one thx

Stalingrad (the German one)

The German one was great, the Russian one was a little odd and both versions had the same German actor, Thomas Kretschmann even though they were made 20 years apart.

So many great movie choices in this thread that I’m taking notes on ones I haven’t seen yet. Many thx.

Casino and Goodfellas are top picks for me, along with all Humphrey Bogart flicks, Deer Hunter and others already listed.

Here is a dark horse pick and one of my fave movies to watch.

The Pope of Greenwich Village - Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Darryl Hannah and Burt Young. Lots of NYC and Monmouth Park scenes, Sinatra music. Underrated.

Im going to try to keep it to 5.
Breakfast club.
With honors.
Guns of Navarone.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid
Die hard Nakatomi. Plaza version

Bonus picks
Sophie's choice
The defiant ones.
Brians. Song
I can think of 10 more. But that's a good start.

1. Field of Dreams
2. Jaws
3. Casablanca
4. My Cousin Vinny
5. Any Sherlock Holmes movies with Basil Ratbone/Nigel Bruce
6. High Plains Drifter
7. Any Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers
8. Good Will Hunting
9. Hoosiers
10. The Godfather
