Jon Rothstein tweeted it as a “retirement” but Carino didn’t characterize it that way. He just said he was stepping down. Why is he retiring? Is he taking the fall for the Hall’s recruiting scandal? Seems weird no one is reporting on why his is just completely leaving basketball.

If there is a Jay Wright coaching tree, perhaps one of Wright’s assistants who left for a head coach position will hire Hill. After all, Tom Abatemarco is still assisting at FGCU, serving as a mentor for Joe Dooley’s young successor.Might be Willard planned to move him from top recruiter and move him down to # 3 assistant.
Freddie seeing he was going to be low man on totem pole felt it would be better to move on and see what type of offers would come his way. That's if he's not retiring or a lack of decent offers would make him retire.
At 59 I think Hill will stay in the game somehow because, even if RU Fans don't like him, Fred Jr is respected by the College basketball community and I'm sure there will be a program ( or 2) that goes after him.
Kinda like most of your posts.:flush:if he can't recruit then he brings nothing to the table
We fired Waters in a classless way for him. :flushed:
Michael Fly and Abatemarco seemed really tight when I was at the FGCU Team Camp last summer. Good guys, both of them.If there is a Jay Wright coaching tree, perhaps one of Wright’s assistants who left for a head coach position will hire Hill. If that happens it would probably be Seton Hall's best coaching staff in some time.Word is Duane Woodward from Monmouth could replace him-----very good connections in NYC
Would be a big step up from Fred Hill.
Kind of like how a lot of us felt about Schiano towards the end.
He would be a good assistant coach for them.
If he's the hire, that would be a nice revamp of their staff.
Kevin Willard is not a great Xs & Os coach, nor does he strike me as the type who is a superstar recruiter dynamo.
I will say that he's good at doing what needs to be done to get assistants in there who can get him the players. That's probably enough to keep him employed at Seton Hall for a very long time. As a Rutgers fan, I'd like their level of success right now, but at the same time I would feel the same way they do towards him as a coach. Largely ambivalent, wary about his ability to push the team to higher levels, but also knowing that it's going to be hard to do that much better in terms of a coaching hire.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the post just pointing out the irony that it was made by "DirtyRU"Wait Woodward... did he ball at BC? If so, he was a real punk back in the day. Not well liked by other players. Dirty baller. From Queens I think?
If so, he'll fit in perfectly, coaching filthy stinky dirty hall ball at Toilet Seat & Stall University.
Hahahaha! Well-played Russ. Good point. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the post just pointing out the irony that it was made by "DirtyRU"
Can you imagine if Pikiell led Rutgers to the NCAA tournament and then at some point late in the season pundits were projecting RU as a 1 or 2 seed in the tournament. Next Pikiell would help get the RAC expanded to 12,000 capacity. He'd follow that with 4 or 5 up and down seasons where we'd make the NCAA tournament ONLY once.
The sad thing would you'd have half of the fanbase wanting him to go.
Bottom line i didn't feel that way about Schiano.
Well at least we won't have to compete with Fred Hill's shady recruiting tactics
Holloway was there for a very long time no ?shoe and Willard have always had a "FOR SALE" sign for the assistant jobs...the turnover doesn't look coincidential...of course, it's not like Carino will ever disclose if FHJ was pushed out...
they behave as Ville without the results...
If
Classic smear.
Actually being honest, my buddy is a coach of a kid Hall is going after and tells me all the illegal things that Fred Hill does while he was recruiting.
Holloway was there for a very long time no ?
Hill was there for 3-4 years ?
Tiny left----saw it wasn't for him------BFD
Sorry but I don't see mass exodus on a consistent basis and to me a change or two on the staff is healthy-----ask Beilein.
You would crawl over 100 yards of broken glass for their results.
No I wouldn't honestly. They have had better results relative to us, but that is a long line so BFD. They are still a bottom feeder, and had to get creative with Tiny and Antigua to get players. They didn't get those jobs based on merit certainly. It's not like they were pouched by better teams. Some turnover is fine, but they only got those jobs for specific players--hence, the FOR SALE sign. Now those players are gone, and coaches are well. No mention why FHJ why left. Shaheen left for a HC job so I'm not counting him, it's was about the others.
“Illegal”?? Really?
I think there plenty recruiters in college programs that push the line and maybe go over it.Yes illegal, I don’t mean in terms of offering cash, but there’s rules he breaks while recruiting that he should be following like the rest of the coaches.
Hey, be nice cause he's a very inciteful poster. [sick]The rat can’t break through the 2% barrier. More than 10k posts and all of 190 likes. Telling even among his brethren.
