OT: Free parking and admission at Monmouth Park all season

Had a race like that where I was going for the $15 K winning ticket on an exacta. My winning horse was ahead by 20 lengths with a furlong to go. I'm walking up to the window and hear "BANG". Look onto the track and a shower curtain around a horse. Yep it was my winner that broke down in the stretch.

Pretty quick response

Does Monmouth ever have a close race? Every time I tune in (often) the winner is five lengths clear and second is four ahead of third. Write some different conditions or something

The owners and trainers are playing a different game than the bettors.

When a stable is large they can drop a horse in for a claiming race at a tag price likely less than the horse is worth if the purse is big enough.

If you’re an owner/breeder (which many of the J-bred horses come out of these type of stables), you can run your horse for more than they’re true level knowing that if they’re claimed you make money and if they don’t you didn’t pay a sire fee.

So those big stables win a lot of races easily and the little guys get trounced shooting for the stars

Another level headed common sense supporter chiming in.
Not some random drunk.
Please explain why it took 3 weeks to come up with a decision and changing it at the last minute. Like closing golf courses there was nothing level headed or common sense about it or your post. You must be some crack head loving the free $600 a week from Murphy.
Blaming MP is just completely foolish. BTW no one was turned away yesterday. Just a bunch of lazy people complaining.
I had a great day at MP yesterday.

I really don't care if the winners win by lengths. It certainly wasn't chalk yesterday. A gamblers paradise.

Friend was a friend of a Jockey at MP.
The Jockey would give him a signal in the paddock if the owner/trainer wanted a Win that day from Dyna=nag or Old Glue Foot.

Cuts the odds down when you know the Jockey is going to try rather than just going along for the ride.

Story; Stopped a Jockey for speeding NB on GSP. He gave me his DL with a 50 dollar bill attached with a paperclip. Asked him where he was going and he was heading up for a night race after the day at MP and yada yada. Asked him if he was Catholic (Hispanic Jockey), he was. I told him that he had to give the 50 into the collection plate next Sunday. He swore he would, I reminded him that if he didn't he would have to confess that Sin to the Priest in Confession and NO Priest would just give some Hail Mary's on not getting the 50.

Have been to the Haskell last 25+ years. Thought maybe I would make it this year since they were letting limited people in, but guess I'll be watching from home. Not paying $100/ticket. Wonder if this is start of a trend where sports let a few people in and jack up the prices.

"General admission tickets, of which there will be just 500 available, will sell for $100, and include admission, parking, a program and Haskell hat."

https://www.app.com/story/sports/20...-day-limited-quantity-set-go-sale/5365721002/

Also, I recall one group in the picnic area always has something like the last 20+ years haskell hats hanging up from their tent. Wonder if they will pay the $100 to keep the collection going.

Did you read my post at all? Monmouth Park submitted 2 numbers in May. One based on the 60+ k attendance for the American Pharoah Haskell and the second based on 45k which is closer to the average of a normal Haskell. Both were approved by the racing and gaming commission pending State approval. Then late Thursday afternoon they receive a order to reduce it to 2000. With no comment why. All casinos are all still approved for 2000 plus. Indoors! Monmouth Park wasn't able to give you an answer as the State to this minute has not heard from anyone from Trenton about the last second change. The blame is completely on Trenton as they have not communicated with Monmouth Park since the last second change. Murphy must not realize that how big Monmouth Park is compared to indoor casinos and made up some complete BS on this like closing golf courses. Monmouth Park can not answer your question because nobody in Trenton wants to respond back.

Murphy lives pretty close to there .

Murphy lives pretty close to there .
He lives in Princeton at Drumthwacket. State has paid nearly $1 million in renovations so far. He was from Middletown. I wouldn't call that pretty close. North of Red Bank.

what I am saying is I am sure he’s been there at some point . So he should know how big it is.

He was there to place the first legal sports bet. Probably based his 2000 limit on the William Hill section. He certainly didn't base it off the entire property.

What is the issue you see ? That Monmouth will lose lots of gambling revenue ? I would think if people want to bet, they will online or at the local otw .

Seriously?? That is your response? You think Monmouth Park only makes money on gambling? Obviously a Murphy supporter lacking facts. Clueless

Well, that’s the whole point of the place . Where is the major revenue loss ? Concessions ?

Unreal! Before you respond with another clueless response please explain the 2000 limit when the racing commission and the gaming commission approved over 5 times that amount from a very costly plan by Monmouth Park.

I am not defending it. The limit should probably be more . I am saying it may not be that big of a loss of revenue . Are they really going to be turning gamblers away at the gates due to capacity issues? I don’t think so as they will probably look the other way as long as people are properly spaced out. And even if they did turn them away - hardcore gamblers will find a way to play.

MP is run like government and schools (i.e. with no business sense whatsoever). With the way things are done there, they are doomed to fail. You reap what you sow.

What about the workers? What about the outside security force they hired that must be paid even though they are no longer needed? The business that feed off the people that come into town? You are one cold hearted narrow minded jerk not to understand the entire loss to the community. My friend owns a store right around the corner. Open your eyes.

MP is not run like a government! They are regulated by one. Smart people understand the difference.

You’re trying to find any way possible to position things to somehow illustrate how a track that’s failed for years has everyone else to blame but themselves. “Smart people” understand that too.

P.S. I’ve been going to MP for over 30 yrs and love it. I’m also a horseplayer. Would love to see MP do well. Just have seen time again over the years how their poor decision making hurts them time and again.

Capacity should be more than the 2k, I agree . And yes that’s a trickle down affect sadly . But Monmouth Park isn’t helping itself by banning bringing your own food and byob . Only the gamblers are gonna go and not the family outings . Because if you’re not into gambling, why the hell would you go ? That policy is going to hurt your friends business too. So MP gets blame too. And the gamblers are gonna gamble , even if they’re turned away at the gates due to capacity issues, which I doubt that happens.

Specifically I am talking about the Governors last minute decision. Agree the way the State ran it for years was dysfunctional at best. Current ownership has a better plan but short on funds but has been better with William Hill.

Not bringing in food and liquids was part of the approved plan to keep it from being a young crowd party place.

I have been to that picnic area a bunch of times over the years. I never would have ever characterized it as “a young crowd party place.” Never! Wow did the mp management even walk out there?
And doesn’t that decision hurt your friends business?

I have. Ok once a year . So why not just ban it for that one day instead of the season?
And doesn’t this policy keeping people away , even if they’re young party people, also hurt your friends business ?

Bottom line is, before they got sports betting, they allowed BYOB and food, just about anywhere, except close to the finish line, and not upstairs.Once they got the sports betting, they $hit on the people that kept that place afloat. Those betting with the money they saved on food and beverage, placed additional bets. Now, as far as I'm concerned, they can go Fu@k themselves.Absolutely has nothing to do with safety, only a money grab. I feel safer making my own sandwiches and bringing my own cans of beverage, just two more items that could transfer the virus. They suck, they really do.

nooo... it’s all to stop it being a young party place!!

Because as you have seen in the South, without bars they will congregate anywhere. Plus it's not just kids looking for places to gather and party.
And it's not that you can't have something to drink or eat. Plenty of food options and drink options.
And yes his business has lost business but 10k is alot better than 2k right?

You act like you couldn't bring food or drink at all. Make your own precious sandwiches and enjoy the in the picnic area! No need to buy anything. Suck a crap response.

Yes, 10k is better than 2k. Except if the 2k is young or partying , according to MP management . Did they actually state that ?

Are you stupid or just want to argue? You say you have been to Monmouth Park. Maybe you are the one that has never been to the picnic area. Forget the age. Weren't there big parties there every weekend?? They have 15 reserved area for parties and almost all were full everyday! 50 person minimal for all of them. 150 for some of the trackside. What part can't you understand?? Many like myself had annual parties of well over 100 people. So if the track is not reserving them this year what do think was going to happen? People just send a few of the group early to grab some tables and away they go.
You must have been in the clubhouse all these years.

There were not big raging parties . Your rutgers tailgates were rowdier .
I am not trying to argue . I think it’s a money grab by the place not allowing byob . And I think the capacity should be more than 2k, you’re right on that .

Raging. Some were. But what difference does that make? Covid doesn't care what kind of party it is. Any large group will do. Don't understand why you think it makes a difference.
Was there on the 4th. Bought my first beer there in maybe 30 years. Had no problem paying for a few under the current environment. Did it change the amount of bets I made? Hell no. ruready statement is such bullcrap. If they permanently make it no BYOB than your right. If it's back next year as I believe it will be this was about crowd control not a money grab.
Look what happened at PARX. They stopped it years ago. They used to be as crowded as Monmouth in their picnic area, now nobody goes. They don't care as they have the most successful casino on the East Coast. Monmouth doesn't
