He was MLB's oldest living player and its oldest surviving combat veteran- at Iwo Jima and other horrors in the Pacific.

To give you an idea of how old he was,his big brother played for Knute Rockne, scoring on a 100 yard interception return vs Army at Yankee Stadium in 1929,giving ND the national championship.

He got to the big leagues with the Browns in 1949,hitting .250,then left the game to become a deputy sheriff.

With his death, seldom used early 1950's Yankee lefty Art Schallock-another Iwo Jima vet-takes the torch to carry on.

Elder no more.

Each 5 year span is important . You evidently reached 65 so your chances to see 70 have increased dramatically. If you hit 70 then you have a great opportunity to reach 75. Now that does begin to lessen as you near your 80 ‘s but even so the fact your parents lived to a ripe old age does not guarantee the same for you in most cases.better to explore the grandparents and how they did as the years passed.
