OT handful of programs transfer revenue from athletics

I think profitable athletic departments should share their profits with other divisions of the university. It's the right thing to do but can also generate increased support for the athletic program over the long term. The outrageously high salaries earned by many coaches are the kind of thing that can undermine support for athletics as they convey the appearance of misplaced priorities on the part of the institution.

Since the list of schools that can actually do this is short, as the OP noted, I can't see mandating a set figure that must be transferred because it wouldn't be possible to accomplish for the great majority of the schools involved.

The article said that Iowa didn't have a surplus until 2009, so it sounds like perhaps the BTN, once it gained subscribers, may have been the factor that put Iowa over the top.

School, yes. For the reasons @ecojew mentioned.

To Trenton or the like, no way. But watch them try with a NJ politician version of, "You didn't build that!"
