OT: Illinois Success Facilitated by a Wonderful Football Fieldhouse

is there a wind tunnel for kickers to practice in, because thats the only way todays kicker would have been prepared for a 57 yard kick that Greg gave him a mulligan... RU was outcoached today and a fancier indoor fieldhouse is not going to change that ...

If we had a competitive fieldhouse, the game would not have come down to the last play as we would have run them off the field, as we would have had better depth.

well i think nil money matters more than a new fieldhouse
True. But not many are contributing to NIL because they are opposed to paying players. Having non competitive NIL and no competitive facilities makes it more difficult to recruit. If we at least had a competitive facility, it would be easierfor Schiano to recruit.

I see it now. The Illinois fieldhouse caused RU's DC to call an ill- advised all out blitz that resulted in a game winning 40 yard TD bomb. Before that, it compelled Schiano to call a timeout on a 58 yard FG attempt by a team with a shaky kicking game into a strong wind. A fieldhouse won't fix stupid.

With the Fieldhouse, we wouldn’t have been forced to play a True Freshman in a key spot, which facilitated the 40 yard TD bomb.

If Greg had the field house he still would have called the timeout.

And there is little logic to think a field house would have kept any of our players from injury. We have everything a field house offers within our facilities. They’re just not perfectly convenient. Damn players have to walk across the street to the bubble.

Of course not
AL a fancy field house may get a recruit in the door but NIL is what keeps the kid or bring in transfers.. We have limited financial commitment from State, Alumni, Fans, Corporations...I'm a realist in my expectations and how my donations help.. Maybe when the season is over you can provide your research on rankings of fieldhouses for Big 10 schools so we can collectively dream of our potential turf palace.

Of course not

Why not?
So a Fieldhouse isn't needed if we win?
I thought we needed one regardless?

Your just as bad as HC Schiano and his "if we won it's the right decision.
Results based decision analysis is a terrible prcoess.

Have some conviction in your opinion and stick to it.

I have always stated consistently that the Fieldhouse is a need, whether we win or lose.

So then why wouldn't you post this thread if we won?

"Fieldhouse doesn't guarantee success"
Exactly.
It's also not requirement for success.
See Maryland and Minnesota games.

Thanks for proving the point of how useless these threads are.
Nobody is saying a Fieldhouse isn't important. It's on the list of factors. But so are many other things.

We coached well against Maryland and Minnesota. Did our coaches all of a sudden become bums between Maryland and Illinois? Of course not. Illinois had better talent, which was facilitated by the Fieldhouse.
They were bums against USC and UCLA. It's not like they've put on a clinic this season. Maryland and Minnesota both have better talent, given RU's injuries. Those victories were the result of the coaches pulling their heads out of their asses.

Because the Fieldhouse thread is more relevant when we lose.

They were not bums against USC and UCLA. Lewis and Tyreem Powell were playing hurt, and our freshmen DBs and replacement LBers were acclimating to this level of play, as was #82, #96, #14, and #3.

We got healthier for Maryland and Minnesota and we started playing three safeties, with Sanders, Dixon, and Loyal all on the field at the same time, with Loyal playing more of a hybrid DB-LB type role.

The rate of pedestrian injuries crossing streets is much lower in a fieldhouse.

Maybe we need to switch back to grass instead of turf to limit all the injuries we experience

A field house does nothing for us
A Fieldhouse boosts recruiting, just as hale center expansion helped us land Rice, Greene, and both McCourty’s. That was 20 years ago.

They couldn't stop either UCLA or USC from throwing to RBs out of the backfield. It looked like they'd never seen it before and failed to adjust. That's a coaching problem.

And his timeout would not have mattered because we would have already run them off the field.
This is just plain stupid. Schiano has a history of making terrible in game coaching decisions. He will always find a way to be above average regardless of the facilities, NIL money, number of four and five star athletes on the roster. You really need to come to terms with that fact.

Although he has had many, this may have been Al’s dumbest and most ill timed post ever for his dream field house. Such a loser mentality.

Coach calls a TO and let’s the other coach out of the dumbest decision ever. And fieldhouses apparently prevent cold weather outdoor injuries.
