OT: Indians Win Game 1

Thank goodness. I hope the Cubs never win. I've said this before that Terry Francona may be one of the most underrated mangers in baseball, while Joe Maddon comes across as if he thinks he's God's gift to the game.

I KNEW we shouldn't have traded Andrew Miller.

While I was rooting for the Cubs to get in, I have to say, the concept of them losing again would be nice to see. Not unlike the Red Sox a few years ago, it was nice to always see them fail. It would also be kind of cool to see the Indians tack on to the Cavaliers championship year.

Kind of like Charlie Brown and the football! :)

Game 2 got pushed up to 7:08 edt due to expected inclement weather. Would have been nice if they moved it up to 4p and played an old time late afternoon WS game. Will be interesting to see if Arrieta can back up his big mouth.

Saw a recent article about the greatest post season pitchers ever. Of course memory can only go back about 20 years so Sandy Koufax with his 0.95 World Series was only ranked fifth. They gave a link where you could watch the entire 1965 Game 7 where Koufax came back on two days rest and pitched a complete game 3 hit shutout with 10 K's. His ERA in that Series was only 0.38!!!!
Watch it on Youtube and you'll get an appreciation of baseball the way it use to be.
By the way Vin Scully did the play by play!!!!

he definitely seems to make all the right moves. Cleveland certainly benefited from Boston's great move in dumping him.

Francona is most definitely underrated, but Maddon is pretty damn good, too. Two of the very best, I think.

Yup. He was willing break with the ridiculous baseball orthodoxy, and has been richly rewarded. I've been screaming for 20 years for managers to not be so by-the-book. Maybe this will give them a little shot of courage...

The match up is good for the game.

I left basically after the last strike and have been doing the minor league thing instead when I need the fix...SI Yankees (when I used to live there), Trenton Thunder and the BlueClaws now.

Francona's use of Miller (and Miller's unselfish willingness to pitch any inning, any time) is one of the best things I've seen in baseball in years.

People in the baseball stats community have been suggesting using the best pitcher in the highest leverage situations for years. What's the point of having 2 Joe Average guys pitching the 7th and 8th against the top of a lineup when you have someone like Miller ready to go.

I forget which announcer said it, but last night one of the guys said that you would never see this usage in the regular season because the players and union wouldn't allow it (closer money vs. set up man money), but players do it in the postseason for a ring.

Hoping the series is competitive, don't care who wins.

Uhm, yeah, no thanks. So you (the OP) doesn't like Madden. Whooop-dee-freakin'-doo-dah lol! Why on Earth anyone would want Cleveland to win (they had shots in '95 and '97, plus one a WS in, what, '48?) who isn't FROM Cleveland is beyond me. GO CUBBIES!

Two words: Steve Bartman.

That may have hurt - a tad - if I were a Cub fan. I'm not. I'm just rooting for them.

or one could say...

The game took place at 19:08 pm military time :clap:

Arrieta vs baeuer...you pretty much knew what the result would be. This was the Cubs game to lose.
I'm still digging the Indians pitching overall, from the starters to Miller and the pen, to subdue the Cubs potent bats

Indians in 6

It's called America,Nuts. Everyone cheers for who they want. i happen to like Francona a lot.
Since you're such a big Cubs fan I'll help you It's MaddOn, not Madden. Does anyone else smell front runner here???

What's all the hate for the Cubs about in this thread? It's interesting, but it seems to be coming from a lot of the Mets fans who were present in the epic Kbee vs. the world thread. The Yank fans don't seem to care as much.

II don't follow baseball since Jersey doesn't have a team, but let's go CUBS.

Yes, you're a front runner. 99.9% of us here are as there are only two teams left to root for.
Francona underrated? He was God's gift to the world winning 2 World Series in Boston.

My point exactly!!!! Francona did a great job in Boston and is now turning around a dismal Cleveland franchise. I don't think that he gets mentioned much when people talk about great managers and he should.
...and I'm not rooting for anyone but I'd like to see the Indians win.

Part of your perceived lack of respect towards is simply the fact that it's the Cleveland Indians. That team doesn't move the needle. Did you go out of your way this season to see how the Indians were doing? Of course not, it's the Indians.
But your are wrong if you think Francona isn't respected within baseball, within the baseball media or with diehard baseball fans.

If true.....I stand corrected. But I still want to see them win.

When they were winning 14 straight I did.

I clearly stated that I'm not a Cubs fan, right? There are 2 teams here to root for: Cleveland and Chicago. When I was a kid and we got cable we got WGN. Watched the Cubs all the time. A fan? Nope, however, there's ZERO reason for me to root for Cleveland, hence, rooting for The Cubs. That is far - FAR - from being a "front runner."

Now, good for you, you like Francona, I didn't say a word about that, I just find your hatred for MaddOn to be funny as this isn't the first time you've mentioned it. Oh well.
