This linked article suggests that QB Hackenberg was involved with a "basketball class". Is "basketball class" an academic course for credit or simply a campus offering without academic credit?

http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...ckenberg/454945d9-42f8-4baf-8280-cc6856134a22

I.e.,
"Hackenberg has a normal college life off the field and he takes full advantage of that. Across the street from Beaver Stadium is Penn State’s intramural sports building. Every weekday afternoon, he and some of his teammates partook in basketball class with 25 students. Instructor Michael Morse highlights his humbleness along with his athletic ability."

All universities have PE classes. And nearly all universities have individual sports to satisfy the requirement.

Except Navy...we had no such things.

But my wife took Yoga for credit as an undergrad. Happens everywhere.

Penn State has a Phys Ed *requirement.*

Every school has these type of classes. Usually 1 credit each.

It fairly common for having a health and physical education requirement. Penn State has a 3 credit requirement. According to Oregon state study about 40% of schools have it. I know some people had taken the course at Penn State and it turned into a life long hobby. I heard of people who never learned to swim until college. Here are the current list of options:

I would have taken about a dozen of state penn's electives. Who doesn't love ball room dancing and yoga. ;-) Would have been an easy way to meet girls!
Seriously though Rutgers had dopey electives too when I was an undergrad. There was a class called insects and man ( I think everyone at the time referred to the class as Bugs and Dudes). Half of this class was student athletes. Theater Appreciation was another fun elective but you actually had to put some work into. It's no different at any school ... There will always be some easy electives.
