This is really one of the most unique events in sports and a great part of Masters week. I was lucky enough to watch in person in 2011 and it's one of my best memories. Possibly the best week of the year.

What's mind-boggling : that's Jack's 20th ace in PGA tournament play. People talk about his 18 Major victories, but he finished 2nd in the Majors 19 times. Simply the best of all-time ! Great family man who achieved everything with class.

As I said earlier this week this is by far the best sports week of the year. NCAA, Opening Day and the Masters.

The roar by the crowd was described by best Curtis Strange. He said you can tell the difference between a Jack roar and all others. Great shot! Will be all over the news tonight Im sure.

Just hit the flag on #8 (after putting his first in the water). Par 3 is a lot of fun to watch.

Rory has a member of One Direction caddying for him. Causing quite a stir with some of the female "patrons".

My all time favorite player. Nice to see the the other players like Jordan Spieth tip their caps to him when they heard the roar.

Also, good to see Tiger loosen up and enjoy being out there with Lindsey and his kids.

sorry Whitebus, you just can't have the best sports week of the year without college football and the NFL IMO.

Jason Dufner had Barnaby from March of the Wooden Soldiers on the bag.

Wow. So 37 1st or 2nd place finishes in majors.

Just checked Woods, who has 14 majors, but only 6 second place finishes. So while he is only 4 major victories behind Nicklaus, he is 17 1st or 2nd place finishes behind. That is an amazing level of consistency in a sport that is really hard to be consistent over a long haul.

My mistake. Jack already has 20 aces in tournament play. I believe today is just a practice round. The Masters is (IMO) the best/my favorite week of the PGA tour. If you're a golf nut and have never been to Augusta, well you have to make it one time in your lifetime. Simply awesome.

Although obviously a great player, 14 majors and 79 Victories prove that, those quick to anoint Tiger the greatest ever should remember this stat.

Its difficult to compare players because they played in different eras and against different competition. The more interesting question is who would win in a head to head competition between Nicklaus and Woods at their peak level of performance?

I think a lot would depend on the course. The tighter and more penal it is the better for Nicklaus. Jack was not only the longest hitter back then but also the most accurate. No one was better with a long iron in his hands. Tiger would get the nod around the green. Both were great with a putter. Maybe a veryyyyyyyyyyyyy slight edge to Tiger.

LOL I was just waiting for the first Jack v. Tiger post. On this board it was bound to happen, I thought it would have been done in 15 posts and it took just 8.

I will take Jack with current golf ball and club technology. Sorry Tiger.

I can second Strange's comment.

I'm a golf fanatic and have had the pleasure during my lifetime of attending several big/Major golf tournaments. It spans 5 decades now. But, the crown jewel - without a doubt - was the 1986 Masters. The DEAFENING roar that day when 46 year old Jack shot that legendary 30 on the back nine was completely off the charts. I've heard roars supporting other fan favorites like Mickelson and Woods over the years but none of them compare to the one behind Jack that day. I guess you just had to be there. As you can tell, I have a lot of respect for Jack, both as a golfer and man.

I lived in Upper Arlington, Ohio, in 1961 (town Nicklaus grew up in). At Ohio State that year were Nicklaus, Paul Warfield, Jerry Lucas, John Havlicek, and Bobby Knight.

Sorry, but Tiger at his best was better than Jack. 14 majors in about 10 year, 4 in a row, more PGA wins, and all of this with much, much better and deeper competition (especially coming from international players).

Now, I will still say Jack is the best when you stack up career vs career, but Tiger's height was higher.

It's pretty close even if you look at the heights. Kind of depends on what you're counting. I'm a huge fan of both players. But even during his hot years, when Tiger wasn't on, he really wasn't on.

He won 14 majors over 12 years. He had an additional 15 top ten finishes.

Nicklaus owned the 70's. From 1970 to 1981 inclusive (12 years for comparison's sake), he won 10 majors, and had 31 additional top tens.

Maybe the most amazing Nicklaus stat is 46 top three finishes in majors for his career.

Really thought Tiger would put away all the records until his implosion both physically and psychologically. Real shame there. Wonder if we will see another really dominant player in the next couple of decades.

Maybe my fellow Kiwi, Lydia Ko!
