He spent his entire segment on WFAN this afternoon ripping Cubs fans for they way they reacted after the game last night. Basically said they've won nothing yet and the celebration was way over the top.

I watched the post game and thought the actions of Cub fans was what being a die hard fan is all about. The joy in their faces, the singing, and cheering was a perfect example of what sports can be. I mean most people weren't alive the last time they were in a World Series. Let 'em celebrate for Christ's sake. They all have to know the odds are against them.

I was interested to see that the World Series crushed the NFL in the ratings last night. That hasn't happened in a good long while that I can recall.

Agree. They've been waiting over 70 years for a WS game in their ballpark. They finally get a WS home win and celebrate. So what? Rome and the talking heads of his ilk are what's wrong with sports journalism.

They might have been motivated to celebrate a little extra because they know it's their last home game of the season at Wrigley.

Of course and when you add in their history it's makes perfect sense.

You'd have to be pretty heartless not to understand what they were feeling.

How the hell can anyone criticize the long suffering Cub fans?
We finally have a series with two programs that have been on the wrong side of it all for way too long. One of them is guaranteed to get out of the darkness for a change.
It certainly didn't look good for them after losing game four with the prospect of being blown out of their own house last night. Kudos to them for not throwing in the towel and forcing this thing back to Cleveland. They still face a daunting task of winning this thing, especially if they can get to game 7 against a pitcher they have shown no ability to hit.

At least a Rutgers alum put him in his place once. From Wikipedia:

In 2012, Rome was involved in a controversy with NBA Commissioner David Stern. During an interview, Rome asked Stern about the conspiracy theories that the NBA Draft Lottery was fixed in favor of the New Orleans Hornets, and he asked, "Was the fix in for the lottery?" Stern replied with two answers: "Number one, no; and a statement, shame on you for asking." He then proceeded to ask Rome, "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" and accused Rome of "making a career out of cheap thrills". This led to a heated exchange between Rome and Stern, ending when Stern said he had "to go call someone important like Stephen A. Smith."[10]

The celebration was wonderful and nobody mentioned t he incredible"stand up to cancer" tribute where the whole stadium (fans, players for both teams and even umpires lined up in a row had placards with someone's name written on them that had been lost to cancer). Brought tears to my eyes. My most memorable game since being there with Piscataway Mike when the Yankees won it all in Game 6 on November 4th 2009.

In a field littered with simpletons and blowhards, Rome stands out for all the wrong reasons, and he has for years.

No one will ever be able to convince me that David Stern did not fix the Patrick Ewing lottery for tha Knicks that one year.

Here's a video detailing the conspiracy:

They stay to watch the W get raised up the mast. They sing, celebrate and no one leaves....awesome

Zap, don't want to be too flowerly about this but as someone who's been there, how would that make players feel?

No matter how jaded you become or how pro athletes understand better than anyone a hero today can be a bum tomorrow it still must be kind of cool sitting in the locker room listening to the goings on.

I'm no Cubs fan, but damn if I didn't catch myself humming that Cubs song today. I was even thinking boy it would be nice to have a catchy song all of RU would sing.

Oh and yes Rome is an idiot.

I was at the game Friday night and even after loosing they were all celebrating the fact that the Cubs were in the Series. Their fans, while they definitely want to win it, are celebrating something that most have never seen. It was a great atmosphere before, during, and after the game. Now if they could do something about the cover charges to the bars and the table fees it would be better.

I didn't know about the tradition of singing "Go Cubs Go" after a win but was impressed by the crowds enthusiasm. Just now I read an article and learned that the song was written by the late, great Steve Goodman. That makes it ok in the eyes of this Mets fan.

A strong addition to the conversation by Mildone.

Yes knightfan, players love it, don't forget their wives, kids are parents are watching from the stands also.
I bet myself you'd respond to that little jibe. :)

I didn't know Rome still had some sort of show. I would have expected him to be hosting some sort of Wayne's World type show now. By the way I thought the Cub fans singing Go Cubs Go was awesome.

I was humming their victory sing today too. It was great seeing the fans enjoy the moment. Of all people they know that winning a world series game at home isn't something to take for granted.

He does a couple minute commentary on WFAN as does Boomer Esiason and John Feinstein. I believe he also has a cable show, maybe on Showtime. Both are owned by CBS correct?

Jim Rome is the smartest guy in any room. Just ask him.

I can't believe Jim Rome still is on the air.

I guess people like to listen to talking heads that will rile them up.

We knew this already. F him and his bank account. Him and SA Smith and a slew of other "sports journalists" shouldn't be employed to begin with.

Thanks for this thread knightfan. I am a lifelong Cub fan who finally saw my first game at Wrigley this year. Thankfully we were beating Seattle, then the rains came. There was no way I was leaving during the rain delay before the raising of the W and the song. We all want to win but you have to appreciate the journey. I think Rutgers fans get that. BTW, win or lose this thing, I can't hate the Indians. They are a great team with a manager and players you can root for.
