OT: Kaitlin Clark

''Act like you`ve been there before.'' I always thought this was a Jim Brown quote, but Google tells me it's a Lombardi quote. If you just play hard and win, that should be your reward...not embarrassing your opponent. These DL/LB guys (for example) pounding their chests standing over a QB after getting half a sack after some offensive lineman has been shutting him out all game (and knocking him on his keaster for three quarters) is why I cannot watch whole games anymore. Besides, when I was a kid, you could get killed by the other team if you made fun of them lol. Just because you played better did NOT mean you were tougher than they were! Sportsmanship used to mean something...not any more...it's a shame. GO RU!
Agree. Whenever I see this crap from Rutgers or opponents I strongly dislike it. I wasn’t around for Lombardi but I remember it being how Brian Leonard played. Everyone’s a punk these days it seems. Look at me look at me.

Bat flip same thing. Used to be you needed the helmet if you showed up a pitcher. Now you don’t even need a helmet at the plate at all.

Next thing you’ll see is MLB moving just 8 fielders after hitters keep whining about their OBP

Was rooting for Iowa as an underdog (don't care what the seedings were) and wasn't a fan of the taunting by Clark in previous rounds or Angel Reese, but I think this is just stupid. You invite the winner. That's it. This is face-palm worthy.

Holly Rowe speaks. Don't see this aa a man or woman issue, but ESPN is gonna ESPiN. While it has become part of the vernacular, I would like to taunt the person who first said "hating on" with a dictionary.

Bar flips vs taunting?

Really like this girl
I don't know whether I like her or not, but I have a hard time respecting or admiring some of Ms. Reese's basketball related behavior. Seems jealous, catty, and smug at times. I'm also not a big fan of players trying to embarrass or humiliate individual players on the opposing team during a game, which has always been something she's apparently felt is necessary and that she seems to be proud of. (from before the Caitlin Clark stuff.).

Taunting is part of the game now, so if one does it another has the same right.
As for Champions and the Runner Ups being honored at the same time, that might be a good way to stress sportsmanship by watching how the winners and losers interact with each other after the game has been decided.

I believe we saw that. It wasn't a good look.

Clark's "you can't see me" hand gesture was in a previous game and was apparently made toward the opposing team bench. It wasn't personal or intended to embarrass or humiliate an individual player. I realize that many won't agree with me, but I don't consider the two actions identical. I generally don't like taunting, trash talking, or look at me gestures regardless, but just like Ron's big balls gesture that wasn't intended to belittle an individual player, it doesn't bother me as much if it's not directed at an individual subject.

(Admittedly, Clark's defensive brush off gesture of the LSU offensive player did seem to be personal....Also admittedly, I have no idea what was done or said during the course of the game that might have provoked certain taunting or trash talking in response, but there's no way I can condone or respect Angel Reese's post game behavior.)

I was more surprised that they weren’t given a technical foul for poor behavior. That said, Clark is over it so maybe we should be as well

I must have missed when Clark was talking shit and taunting Reese in that game.
when your down, taunting isn't the best idea.
So you didn't see it.
But it was Clark who busted out the "you can't see me" taunt against Hailey Van Lith during Iowa's win over Louisville in the Elite Eight

What sucks about BOTH of them and everyone saying it's ok is that hundreds of girls across the country were watching on TV (sorry couldn't resist) and they're going to go out and do that stuff in 5th grade, 6th grade etc games in AAU this spring.
If you think that's a good thing, you are broken.

So the chick running around like a fool to talk shit to Clark was "responding" to Clark's shit talking in ANOTHER GAME?? Vs ANOTHER TEAM?? LOL can't be serious?? That actually made me laugh out loud.
Imagine a men's team player doing that haha would get punched in the face. Talking shit to somebody who talked shit to another team, and that got you worked up lol. This is comparable to that 8u aau video that went viral when they were talking shit to the other team lol.

girl made a fool of herself. In her little uneducated college athletics bubble she thinks she's the shit. Imagine being that out of touch!

just showing both did it and Reese claimed Clark in a previous game doing it was the reason why she did.But a poor excuse.
It's a two wrongs don't make a right situation .

What is sad is the equating of passion and competitiveness with trash talking/ taunting.
Sounds like Catlin agrees with you
>Clark said that taunting has always been a part of the game for both men and women.

"I think men have always had trash talk. That's the way it's been," the junior guard said. "I think as more and more people turn on the game they're appreciating it for what it is. I'm just lucky enough that I get to play this game and have emotion and wear it on my sleeve, and so does everybody else. That should never been torn down. That's what makes this game so fun.<

I guess 20th c. athletes (with the exception of that Ali guy) weren’t very competitive since there was so much less gloating and taunting.

The two best trash talkers in history were MJ and Larry Bird and fans rarely noticed.
That's how you do it.
What they're doing is attention "seeking" there is a better word then seeking that I'd use if they were men, but since they're girls, I'll be more polite.

The "Bayou Barbie" now claiming Dr. Jill is a racist and that she will not be going to the White House. Instead, "going to Barack's".

Looks like she's going the Kaepernick route lol.

Why does that suck? And guess what they already do it! Have you ever been to a 5th grade girls bball game??? They watch the NBA too.

They have fun!

Best trash talk ever wasn't even talk.

Larry Bird was so dismissive
of the Trailblazers - he shot left handed for a game.

"Larry Legend hit 21 of his 34 field goal attempts, 10 of which he shot left-handed, and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

After the game, the media asked Bird why he shot so much with his off-hand, to which he replied “I’m saving my right hand for the Lakers.”

Wait are people saying this is new?
Just sticking to basketball - who doesn't know of Motumbo and his finger wag? He literally ran down the court wagging in players faces.

Or Iversons great step over of Ty Lue.

It's interesting that you mentioned Kaepernick and the LSU women.

I was browsing a few LSU basketball forums right after the championship game, and several LSU fans mentioned that the fact that the LSU women's team stayed in the locker room for the National Anthem before the championship game was nothing new, and that it had been their policy all season. They said that the reason that the LSU women stay in the locker room is so that players won't protest on the court during the anthem. It was also posted that Kim Mulkey previously stated that they will always stick together as a team, so if even one player doesn't want to honor the national anthem, then the entire team will remain in the locker room too in order to honor that player's wishes.

We obviously don't know if those posts are credible, but that's what several LSU fans posted after the game on Sunday.

In this age of participation trophies, they should invite all 68 teams to the White House.

Wouldn't shock me. The country that allows these people to flourish is the one they hate.

This generation sucks. Bring on the next one.

I've been to plenty of girls travel league games from 5th-8th grades over the last few years and a bunch of girls HS games too. Can't say I've ever seen one kid ever make any gesture during or after a game to bring attention to themselves.

Why would these kids act like they've been there before when you got ESPN pushing clips of Reese doing that to Clark on various social media platforms. Nothing will change until there's an all out brawl over these types of actions.
Too many people defending and normalizing the behaviors of the angel reese’s of the world. Sportsmanship is slowly going away with these types of incidents.

I don’t be grudge anything that goes on during the game. After is a different story.

Reece is trash. But she doesn’t care, it’s bringing her what she wants. Attention. Like Kaepernick, the lesbian soccer player, and others, she will continue to do and say outrageous things for that attention. Even during the trophy presentation her and her girlz were posting stuff.

It’s all about getting followers. If you have to create some ghetto trash image to do it, then that’s what you do.

Maybe she should evaluate what Kaepernick's decisions have done for Kaepernick's career trajectory in sports. GO RU!

Probably doesn't care. He has a multi million dollar contract with Nike.

She's a women's basketball player. There is no money in that. Being an aggrieved victim, even in victory, is her best chance to make money. And it's working. She has a bunch of NIL deals.

It doesn't help when you have an idiot like Holly Rowe or whatever her name is saying on Twitter - why come down on Angel when it happens all the time in the men's game.

Who said the majority of fans want to see it on the men's side either. These guys are making basic plays and acting like they did something unnatural...lol.
