OT: Legalization of Marijuana in NJ

That's great. Good for you.
And I've got a family full of anecdotes about the evils of all of those things...except the weed.
I've had close family relatives die from heroin overdoses, some others literally drinking themselves to death, and some dear family members passed due to lung cancer almost certainly related to their friggin smoking tobacco. Yet the tobacco and alcohol are perfectly legal. So unless you're on board with campaigning for making cigarettes and alcohol illegal.....there's something else going on here.
If an adult wants to smoke herb in a free society, they should not be prohibited by law from doing so. And that's not even getting into the whole Rasta thing about partaking of herb as part of their religion.
And BTW, all that's currently being done to fight against the use of ganja must be really effective....since it's more available than ever and much better quality The big difference I see today is that the parents are more likely to be toking than the children.
I basically agree with you 100%
I do worry about what it does to kids focus and driving on it, inexperienced drivers are a concern as it is, driving high is a safety issue.
You have admit, it does envoke retrospect issues.

Nothing about Marijuana is physically addictive. The only way you can have any addiction to it is the same way as if your addicted to.playing video games, sex, collecting butterflies, jogging etc. Pot being illegal is strange. In the bars I worked at I never once had a problem with someone who was high on weed. Sure had problems.with drinkers, pill poppers, coke heads etc...

Pot being stronger nowadays just makes it easier. You take less hits and get the same buzz. Cannabis oil vaporized with a battery pen makes it clean so you get no smoke. Edibles make it clean too.

As for overdosing, if you made the mistake you may have to stick your head in your couch for an hour until the hard buzz wears out. It's not like your going to die from it. The next time you learn not to do as much. Anyone who thinks Marijuana should be illegal just doesn't understand the pleasure it can give you and the medicinal value without all the other problems associated with other drugs.

As someone told me a long time ago, there's a reason why there's websites and magazines glorifying weed and smokers. There aren't websites out there praising smack heads and coke heads.

I said weed should be legal, but it's addictive I think the people on this board should go back to school, cuz clearly none of you can read

Thats false. It's not addictive at all. Just because people enjoy doing it doesn't mean it's addictive unless you mean in a way like sex is addictive or The Scarlet Nation message board is addictive in a good way

It is addictive there are 2 current nfl players who will tell you it is, I know plenty of people who are addicted to weed. Articles about it say 10 percent of people who smoke it at all, get addicted. And yes there are sex addicts too like Anthony weiner, dudes are addicted

Withdrawal symptoms come once the person becomes addicted. Alcoholics have withdrawals, cocaine addicts have withdrawals, pot users do not. What does that tell you about addiction?
They do have withdrawals, I listed them earlier in the thread .... Just because they aren't as severe doesn't make them not withdrawals. They include anxiety, depression, not being able to stay awake, not being able to sleep, not functioning, cold sweats, headaches, not feeling right

Dude,

People get addicted to marshmallows and peanut butter. That is the same type of addiction you'd have if you were "addicted" to weed. There's nothing physically addictive to it. I was addicted to cigarettes. That is a highly addictive substance which took me more than 50 attempts to quit. With weed, when you dont want to vape, you just don't do it.

Bull,
I have friends who can't function when they're not high. There anxiety is so severe when they know they have no weed, they can't go out in public.

I don't know your friend , so all I can say is "interesting anecdote, Zap".
I know lots and lots of people that smoke about as regularly as one can and the worst I could say is that some of them cough a bit too much. And that they're much more interesting when they're high.
Two other points:
1. Not to be cruel, but how did your friend function in public before he/she started turning on ?
2. You DO understand that for every case you could relate where someone you know had a problem with getting high I could mention a dozen cases where someone's life was screwed up because it was banned, they smoked anyway, and they got caught, right ?

We're they the same ones you partied with in Bay Head when you hung with PJ and crew?

There are people out there that are fried completely. Usually it's from doing other substances too at other points in their life. Most of the heads I know hold 6 figure jobs and are great people.

As a physician who prescribes medical marijuana, I get to see multiple perspectives on this issue.
I also treat many addicts with opiate replacement therapy - so everything is relative.
Pot is definitely addictive for some people - not all.
One of the biggest issues with what I am reading here in these threads is understanding what ADDICTION is.
When Michael Jordan was asked if he had a gambling addiction (because he lost so much money at times), he responded " No, I can afford it".
That is the key to addiction - the compulsive nature of the continued use - is harmful, destructive to the particular individual who "cannot afford it". Physical and psychological "dependency" are different issues.
By the way, we can now prescribe pot for a diagnosis of PTSD (not only vets). If I showed you my PTSD check list- every single RU sports fan would qualify.
Any questions...ask away.

More dumb and dismissive
when did you lose your sense of humor dale? go grab a drink and relax. IT WAS A JOKE...geez. Disappointing response for you. Didn't play pro baseball but I can tell you I am not dumb.

Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong fame when I met him told me that he cured his prostrate cancer with hemp oil. Reading some reports, this does seem possible. What are your thoughts?

Many of you just love to see the world in Black and White . One side or the other. You're right. they're wrong. No middle ground. No wonder we are in the mess we are.

It is different for different people. Not everyone's cup of tea. Is it a problem for some . Of course. Is it no problem for some . Of course.

There are SO MANY bigger issues to solve. And reinvesting the taxes from this industry into addressing the concern area (frack..mental health in general) could be a blessing.

I have toured and spoke many times with the counselors at the Garden State dispensary. They have shown me cases, anecdotal as they may be, of "miracle cures", partial and complete responses to a variety of diseases, including cancer. I have actually seen scans that show tumor regression with "pot only"-- but I know of no formal valid scientific study that has been done -- yet. I cannot deny what I have seen. Also, the power of the mind and man's belief system, ie. psycho-neuro-immunology is a strong variable.

I admit, eternal stoners are rare and outliers, I just happen to know a few...lol

The ones I'm talking about have been high so long they can't remember that far back...

Zappa these ppl are so defensive of their weed it's sad, I personally enjoy smoking it, and think it should be legalized, but look how outraged they are that people get addicted to it, no one can ever be addicted to their beloved weed

It's addicting 25-50 percent of ppl who do it daily are addicted, 17 percent of ppl who start as adolescents are addicted, sorry that you don't like facts presented by journalists and doctors but they're facts. Comparing weed addiction to marshmallow addiction is silly

Christie's tenure is almost over, and Sweeney and other lawmakers are looking to legalize the sale of marijuana in the State. I think legalization following the Colorado model is a no brainer. It's no more dangerous than alcohol. It will bring in tremendous tax revenues. It will also remove a tremendous burden from police and the criminal justice system.

Talk amongst yourselves.

latest
" is a no brainer"..yup that's what chronic pot smoking leads to!!!

Whether or not Marijuana is addictive should not play a part in the decision to legalize. Alcohol, tobacco and caffeine are all addictive and are still legal.

So are Ring Dings....and they better not make THEM illegal.
And I know this one guy that eats so many Ring Dings and has been doing so for so long that he won't go out in public anymore.

If you do it daily you might be mentally addicted, just like if you loved peanut butter or marshmallows and ate them daily. There's no physical addiction and you'd have to be very weak minded to get addicted to it.

That's not a legitimate response. What you are arguing is Nullification. The Federal government passes a law we (an individual state) don't like, so we will just unilaterally overturn it. That's not legal at all. By that logic, an individual state wouldn't have to obey Civil Rights laws.

If you can point to the article in the constitution that says the federal government has the authority to regulate weed I'll give you a dollar. It is the States' obligation to ignore such overreaches.

some of you people are idiots when it comes to drugs [eyeroll] pot is addictive and makes you stupid

ever hear of a pot head stopping(when he shouldn't be driving in the first place) at a stop sign and waiting for it to turn green?

morons.. i vote no on legalization of pot

guess NFL players like Josh Gordon and Tyrian Mathieu are very weak minded. There is literally a poster in this thread who says he prescribes medical marijuana and said it can be addictive. You lost, argument over.

On the plus side, it can help people become more self aware so they are less prone to judgemental outbursts questioning other people's intelligence just because those people have a different viewpoint.

Sums up the situation.

dude.. i've smoked shit loads of pot back in my teens and the list of drugs i haven't done is shorter than the ones i have done.. so don't start being all "OMG! I NEED TO SPEAK UP FOR POT!!!"... pot is addictive and IS a gateway drug.. so i stand by voting no for legalization

If you can point to the article in the constitution that says the federal government has the authority to regulate weed I'll give you a dollar. It is the States' obligation to ignore such overreaches.

By that logic, the government doesn't have the ability to regulate pharmaceutical drugs either. You can't find that in the constitution either. By that logic, the federal government doesn't have the ability to regulate healthcare (i.e. Obamacare). By that logic, the government doesn't have the ability to regulate gun sales (i.e. no background checks). None of that is in the constitution, but it's done anyway. Again, as I said before, it you are going by what is strictly in the constitution, the federal government doesn't have the power to regulate civil rights either. (Again, going by your standard that is has to be specifically in the constitution.)

If you are going to claim that the federal government doesn't have the power to regulate weed, then you have to agree that the federal government doesn't have the power to regulate the things I've named, plus a lot of other stuff. You have to be consistent. You can't just changed the rules based on what you want.

The federal government doesn't have any of that authority and the power should go back to states - or of course, amend the constitution and give the feds more powers.
