OT:LET'S GO METS

When there's perfectly logical explanations for 2 of the 3 moves? No, I don't find that odd.
I just find it odd. Glad he is on the Mets. Love that both NY teams are in 1st place in August

Heard that some teams do not like that he does not walk. The on base percentage.

The Sunday night ESPN game v the Nats was the highest rated televised baseball game in NY since 2012, including World Series.

While his walk rate is low, he's actually very good at taking pitches & working the count to his favor. Hits the ball hard to all fields, too.

Starting to look like a championship caliber team; see the top of the 3rd of tonight's game - '86 like stuff.

And I've already seen enough with Cespedes - complete difference maker.

Shocked no posts after that 9th inning tonight or was everyone like me...almost busting my plasma tv and then needing drink(s) to calm the nerves...lol

Nut - I intend to be at 1 or 2 of the Phillies games later this month and also 1 of the games at Camden as well.....

Also bought a partial season ticket package for the balance of the year - so I am 100% in.......

LOL. We should never post mid-game for a Rutgers or a Mets game predicting the outcome . . . .

While I'm still worried that the young pitching will not stay strong through September, I can take comfort in the possibility that Matt Williams will never learn to manage a pitching staff. I was at the Nats game last night, and in addition to being one of the draggiest games I've ever attended (nearly 2 hours to get through the first 4 innings), I got to see Williams take out Gio Gonzalez in the 6th when he'd given up one run and thrown less than 100 pitches in favor of a reliever who promptly gave up 4 runs.

Doesn't Terry Collins do the same thing often? That was the METS downfall in the last game of the San Diego series.

Taking your starter out when up 7-1 and taking your starter out when down 2-1 isn't quite the same.

And Niese had pitched 6 innings, while Gonzalez had pitched 5 (and he was up 2-1, not down 2-1). My issue with Collins in the San Diego game was bringing Familia back after the rain delay (leaving aside what made the umps think it was a good idea to restart the game with even more rain coming).

Fair enough. Hopefully Matt Williams will help the Mets out the rest of the way.

As I said I love watching this kid. But don't you find it odd that a kid of this talent keeps getting traded? Has this ever happened before?

I think the contract has something to do with this. As a Cuban defector to the D.R. he had leverage when signing his contract. The agent sticks the clause about no qualifying offer which makes it more difficult for the incumbent team to re-sign him. That gives a GM incentive to trade him before the contract expires to get some value. The problem the team he is on at the end of the season has is that whatever offer they make, an agent will want to test the market an open a bidding war. So unless he falls in love with playing in NY, it may be a case of any offer by the Mets is not going to be good enough since there is nothing to compare it to.

Mets remaining opponents' winning percentage: .460 (lowest in MLB)
Nats remaining opponents' winning percentage: .470 ( 2nd lowest in MLB)

I don't see any reason to worry about Thor, Harvey or deGrom being effective in September or beyond (God willing). These guys are almost certainly the real deal.

Niese was fading badly in that Padre game - didn't have a problem with it. Rain was a major issue in that loss.

Haven't seen those yankee fans posting in this thread lately....

Big win vs. the Bosux tonight. CC did pretty good and , of course the bullpen was awesome as always.
Ellsbury with the big homer.
Now for the big showdown with Toronto....which has been smoking hot. And it's that friggin knuckleballer Dickey tomorrow night.
It should be interesting.

Harvey is coming back from Tommy John surgery. That limits his innings.

Thor pitched 133 innings last year, and likely will pass that total in his next start. They usually don't like to have pitchers go more than 20% past the number of innings they pitched in previous years.

deGrom had about 178 innings last year, so he's not going to hit that until sometime in September, but he's still just in his 2nd year in the majors.

Look for the 6 man rotation again when Matz gets back. And if Gee has another good start or two in AAA expect him to be a spot starter to reduce innings for others.

I agree that those are definite possibilities to lighten the load on de Grom, Harvey and Thor (love that nickname). Still, they both mean that the standard 5-man rotation will be disrupted, and that can be trouble. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

Conforto is going to be ridiculous. Uribe steal. Flores best non-trade ever, etc.

This games was the first in Met history in which they overcame deficits in the 7,8 and 9th innings to win a game!
