OT:LET'S GO METS

What a bad play by Murphy. Your only chance is to get the out at first and then bring the infield in and hope for a ground ball, popup or K. He just opened the door to a big inning.

Mets just can't outlast that Pirates bullpen with their own. Nor do much vs the NL Central teams altogether. Thankfully the team to beat still can't get out of their own way out West. Down 6-2 in the 3rd after jumping out 2-0 early.

What do you expect from Murphy? Somehow he's always in the lineup because he suppose to be able to hit. Hitting .280 isn't the same as a .325, otherwise I can't see sacrificing defense for average offense. Even then his defense trumps any good he does on offense. He's no good at his main position (2B), so why are the Mets running Murphy out to 3B and 1B sometimes. Parnell and Murphy are more problems for the Mets than answers. Glad Murphy is a free agent at the end of the year.

Cubby = A man who knows high level baseball.
Playing in the infield, every run you let in defensively you need to drive in two to make up for it...outside of a first basemen hitting 50 homeruns and diving in 145 runs it rarely happens.
If a manager had the choice a player striking out with two outs and the bases loaded, or making an error on defense with the bases loaded, he'd choose the offensive lapse every time.

The good thing if they face off in the playoffs is the Mets can set their rotation where the Pirates will face deGrom, Harvey,

Murphy isn't a rookie. He commits way too many mental errors, which are just as costly to the success of the team as physical errors are. Murphy is a solid hitter, but he fielding is questionable. His base runner instincts are suspect. A guy who is 7 years into his career why is he still (& allowed) to make the same mistake?

Murphy won't return to the Mets next year. Someone will offer him 6-7 million a year but it won't be NY.

I hear you Doug but at the same time my concern would be that if the Mets scuffle against Morton and the guy who pitched Friday night; how will they fare against Cole or Liriano no matter how good of starting pitching they get. Still can't count on shutouts. Haven't beaten the Bucs now in 5 tries. See what they do today against another top notch guy in Jeff Locke. Yes I'm being sarcastic with that last remark.

The two hottest teams in baseball last week, Toronto and the Mets, have now lost 2 in a row each. Hot teams cool down, and slumping teams get warm and hot. Except for Washington, who lost again last night.[banana]

They need to win today. Pirates are a good team and they lost two tough games. Need to get some clutch hits with RISP. Did not get it done in the bottom of the first.

Living in Georgia I follow the Mets games online mostly but I also often have on the MLB network where when they're not showing live games they move around from game to game with live look-ins or video recaps. Well I've been watching for about 45 minutes now and not once have they done an update from Citi Field.

Just an observation; but it's striking the difference between the Mets hitters and those of the Pirates. The way that the Pirates are able to battle at the plate. Foul off pitches and make the pitcher work. Pile up the pitch counts. With the Mets hitters it seems like they start their at-bats 0-1, 0-2 And this is against the bottom of the rotation while the Mets have turned their rotation over. As a result Harvey is near the end of the line and we're about to get into that Mets bullpen soon. I thought this batting coach the Mets hired in the offseason was supposed to be so good? Well he's no Bill Robinson.

This should be it for Parnell. Goedell is ready to come off the DL.

It's also the 2nd game in the last 7 that Tejada has cost us the game. TC always plays the veterans too much.

Parnell is just bad luck. Not his fault on the double play. Murphy or Tejada should have had it. Down 2-1 now.

It WAS Parnell's fault, at least in terms of contributory negligence. If the base is uncovered, you don't throw the ball. Wait a fraction of a second and make sure of one.

It was Tejada's ball. Murphy was backing up all the way.

Murph's not a smart player, as evidenced by last nights ridiculous play. This was not his faul.

Just have to hope this disaster of a weekend doesn't lead into a prolonged funk that could be the beginning of a losing streak as a road trip begins. But when you lose even a Harvey vs. Locke matchup it's bad.

The rain delay hurt us again. Harvey would have pitched the 7th if it wasn't for the rain.

Anyone know why Mets relievers can't pitch 3 days in a row but the Pirates, Caminero, had no problem? I assume it's more TC foolishness.

I live in the D.C. metro area. All I have to say is "FU FP." The worst color man in all of baseball. Yes, as unbelievable as it may sound, he's actually worse than David Cone.

I know that this board's hatred of Terry Collins can be blinding, but please think this through:

You are not using Clippard in the seventh inning of a tie game.

You are not using Familia in the seventh inning of a tie game.

You are not using Robles in the seventh inning of a tie game when he pitched three innings the night before. You may use him later if you have to, but not in the seventh.

That leaves O'Flaherty, Torres, Gilmartin, and Parnell. Name your poison.

Other than the two end-game stalwarts, Mets' bullpen has been decimated by Mejia suspension, by the injuries to Montero, Blevins, Goeddel, Carlyle, and Black, and by Alex Torres' unexpected poor performance. None of that is Collins' fault.

I know he had a rough day but I was expecting Torres to face the bottom of the order in the seventh. Then Clippard in 8th and Familia in the 9th. It would have been three straight days for all 3. I view this week differently because we have the rare two off days. TC doesn't strike me as a thinking man's manager. It may be his nonsensical gibberish during the post game press conferences. He just doesn't inspire confidence.

Hey, you can have Stephen Drew.....we'll take Murphy.
BTW, when was the last time the Metsies beat a team with a winning record ?
