OT: Michigan makes stunning $10.5 million NIL offer to flip No. 1 QB recruit Bryce Underwood from LSU

NFL 2.0 eventually
Can't be a little pregnant
Schools can be owners like Packers owned by GB
Make a few million and get suspended for grades?
Lol.

Interesting - wonder if schools go the academy route and privatize their ADs so they can seek external funding and treat players like employees.

It’s a little misleading when you see 10 million and it’s over 4 years. Yes 2.5 per year would be out of control but there has to be a no play no pay portion of the contract.
What about injury insurance.

$2.5 per doesn’t sound crazy. But yeah what if he enters the draft?

If this was for a HC, people would be cheering and doing backflips.

CFB has always been about the rich using their outside money to take advantage of programs with less outside money.

Nothing new here.
Wake me when people want to ban all donor money (including to Atheltic Departments to steal coaches) and not just donor money going to players.

I know nobody cares, but I just went from 2 inches to being completely done with all this bullshit to 1 inch.
I'm with you. The absurd will continue to get more absurd as the Richie Riches of the world toss their money at college athletes.

I am also with you. This season is the last all in season for me. Need to be a casual fan going forward, until something changes with the $$ ruining what we once knew as college sports.

This will certainly make more youth to play football. I mean if you’re tall and have decent size, why play lacrosse when you can potentially be a tight end or receiver etc.

I haven't seen TE's or receivers get offers like this. Their NIL is surely better than lacrosse would provide but there are again limited spots open. And at the HS level you can play both sports. And a valid argument can be made that there is a benefit to playing multiple sports.

They make pills for that problem

All I’m saying is the money thrown around football and basketball will lead kids to those sports even more and the parents will certainly push.

LSU is going to smoke Michigan in the funds department. Why take 2.5 a year when you can 4 in year one in the SEC down here in the SOUTH

Billionaire Larry Ellison’s new wife was revealed to be the missing link behind his investments in college football at the University of Michigan.

Football boosters thanked Ellison, 80—the world’s fourth richest man and founder of the Oracle cloud software—as a deciding monetary force in poaching top-rated high-school quarterback Bryce Underwood from Louisiana State University. The boosters also thanked Ellison’s wife, a 33-year-old woman named Jolin who also goes by Keren Zhu, reported The Wall Street Journal.

“I want to personally thank Larry and his wife Jolin who were instrumental in making this happen,” said Champions Circle booster collective chairman Nate Forbes.

The Journal reported that Zhu is an alum of the University of Michigan, with a 2012 bachelor of arts degree in International Studies. The outlet also reported that Zhu’s name appears on property owned by Octopus Holdings, which is owned by Ellison.

Although Ellison has not publicly confirmed that he has married for a fifth time, several sports officials have confirmed Jolin’s influence on Ellison’s decision-making.

Jolin and Ellison reportedly personally lobbied for Underwood on a Zoom call with Bryce and his father, Jay. Ellison recounted his upbringing on the South Side of Chicago, and Jolin reportedly expressed her interest in seeing the Michigan Wolverines back on top in the football world.

A couple of millions is nothing to Larry Ellison.

Larry is 80. His wife is 33. Holy smokes!!! She will fall into a gold mine all by her lonesome in the nearer future.

A guy who is 80 that needs the validation of spending millions on college sports also has a 33 year old wife to validate himself?

That's not shocking at all.
A pyschiatrist would have a field day on college athletics boosters.

Not to say that this Michigan story isn’t true (I think a good chance it is)but you can’t take every headline number at face value.

This post below happens at the P4 level too as that Bloomberg story I posted awhile back mentioned. Booster led NIL is purposely very murky. When schools pay players that should be more believable and transparent.

Promised? What’s their contract say?
That's part of the problem. Currently you can't sign a contract until you're actually enrolled and so everything is based on trust. Sometimes that works out fine and sometimes it's just a lie.

That's the same thing that happened with Sluka, the UNLV qb.

Illinois fans must be pissed as Ellison went there and to U of Chicago (didn't graduate apparently). But this is relative pennies for him and is completely at the request of his new wife (Mich grad). We need something like this at RU. Add in the phone calls to the recruit by Tom Brady, and that is tough to turn down for a state of Michigan football star QB.

Imagine the egomaniac assholes the ADs and coaches have to deal with. Not just deal with, but answering texts, phone calls, kissing their ass, etc. Assuming most are complete dikkheads who just want to blow hard to their other dikkhead "friends" about players they brought in, showing off texts etc.

The Rutgers alum trophy wives need to step up their game.

"Ummm I gave you $250,000. What am I getting for that? Ya ya, giving to better the program. But......I better be getting into practices, dinner with Schiano. Special access at the bowl game."
