Go Cardinals
Louisville?
I've been corrected numerous times that it is Stanford Cardinal (singular), and I still don't get it. And to make matters worse, their mascot is a tree. For such a smart school, they seem confused. 😂 Have said it before, and not sure on Stanford, but the ACC should not sleep on Cal. They could make some noise this year. Hoping for them to whoop Cuse.

EDIT- From Wikipedia:

"The team is known as the Cardinal, adopted prior to the 1982 season.[2] Stanford was known as the "Cardinal" for its first two decades of athletic competition,[3] then more commonly as the "Cardinals" until 1930.[4] The name was changed to the "Indians" from 1930 to January 1972,[5] and back to the "Cardinals" from 1972 through 1981. A student vote in December 1975 to change the nickname to "Robber Barons" was not approved by administrators."

I respect the brainiacs at Stanford, but I've never understood that. There must be something I'm not getting, same as you...

They don't even have a cardinal on their field. Their logo is the S with a tree in the middle. At a minimum, could they at least stick a cardinal in the tree, or a partridge?

Cardinal refers to the shade of red, not the bird.

Very unsettled weather here in Boone. A conveyor belt of storms for a few hours now. Just heard a crack of thunder. The first. Was going to head down into town for an App State tailgate party, but decided to stay put.

Would have never guessed that. If they were the Stanford Chartreuse, then sure, I would have gotten that right away.
Sure it's not a lacrosse ball?
Could be. Or a political figure.

Yes.
Think of the Harvard Crimson.
It’s a color, not a bird.
Harvard Crimson- easy. The athletics teams from my high school were the Crimson Knights.
You mean it's not named after the Crimsons that migrate to Capistrano annually?
So, how do we know it's not named after the Polish cochineal?

Thought cardinal was the color.

Never understood the tree much, figured it was just because Stanford is close to Redwoods.

If he can keep up at this pace even if Colorado isn’t good I think he should merit some votes and getting into the top 4. He probably wouldn’t have a chance to actually win if Colorado isn’t good.

paywall but for the comments

Nice gift after the Toledo thrashing lol.

How would you feel about Monangai if he runs for 2000 yards and 20 plus TDs? Does he merit a top 4 or 5?
Those kind of numbers I’d say yes imo. Winners usually come off very successful teams but just to get to NYC I don’t think that has to be the case.

The amount of snaps Hunter players and if he maintains solid production on both sides of the ball, that’s impressive. You have to see over the course of the year if it keeps up.

Playing both sides that many snaps is impressive. He's young, but hopefully he does not wear himself down.

They took it to App State last night. I vaguely remember this bit on ESPN lol. Also didn’t realize Major Applewhitw was HC there now.

paywall but some RU snippets.

Nebraska was his first choice then Illinois and a RU mention.

Which second-division Big Ten school (Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA) is the first to a 10-win season (not necessarily this season)? — Reggie C.

A close second for me would be Illinois, although I do love what Greg Schiano has going at Rutgers. — Teague Robinson
Kaleb Johnson of Iowa and Monangai were mentioned as top 2.

List and rank the top three running backs in the conference, please. — Ben M.
The top two Big Ten running backs when it comes to production have to be Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson and Rutgers’ Kyle Monangai.

When we talked to players from around the Big Ten at media days and asked them for the best offensive player in the conference not on their team, Monangai was among the first players mentioned. He’s been as advertised and ranks second nationally in rushing yards per game (186.5). Monangai is coming off a 208-yard, three-touchdown game against Akron and has the chance to get Rutgers to 3-0 with a victory this weekend at Virginia Tech.

I do. Was he at Holy Cross? (Yeah, I know I could Google it)...

Correct. And he finished 3rd in the Heisman Trophy vote his senior year. 1AA player of the year. And like Hunter he was a two-way player playing for 1AA Holy Cross. Actually, he also returned kicks, so you could say three-way.

Thought cardinal was the color.

Never understood the tree much, figured it was just because Stanford is close to Redwoods.
From somewhere out in the internet: "The Tree is said to represent El Palo Alto, the Redwood tree that is the official symbol of Palo Alto, California, where Stanford is situated. The tree also features on Stanford's official seal. With a new costume made each year, the Tree often features colourful leaves, a cartoon-like smile and googly eyes."
