OT: New York Yankees 2022-2023 Off Season Thread

Love Rizzo power numbers but his avg was brutal all season, too many guys in the lineup hitting low 200s. Rizzo might be part of the bait to get judge back, also the captain tag.
Half of baseball hits in the low .200s now. It's a shame but that's just the way it is. As Bus said in this thread, the shift ban should raise batting averages a bunch.

I don't think it changes averages all that much- guys going for money are going launch angles and velocity. You strike out 150+ in 500 AB's- your average just isnt going to be good. There are exceptions but in a whole- are the guys going for LA and V going to now try to just make contact?

Who???
Claimed off waivers. I'm sure his 2 innings of contributions in 2022 can be replaced.

Well you broke your promise anyway dumbass. I read it already. Funny a Mets fan saying a Yankees doesn't know about the Yankees minor league. My who? was sarcasm. You missed that I followed up with info on him. Typical dumb Mets fan. You say you come to talk baseball on here but you are just a f-ing troll. Go back to the Mets thread. You can talk over there of the Mets going dumpster diving to pick up a kid on waivers. 🤣🤣🤣
I will give you that you did follow up with stats- I give you credit for a quick google search. I would not bring this up again but did feel that while I tried my best to delete my post as I did not wat to personal attack- I do have to only just point out a fact. It has nothing to do with you. I know you are a great Yankee and Philly fan.
The kid had his 2 innings this year but with the Yankees- he did have a small cup of team of 5 innings in 2021, with a 1.80 era. But it sounds like you were already aware of that.

The waiver pickup is sort of minor and most likely has little impact this year but just wanted to help you out as to who he is beyond your 2 innings.

I do not think it will move the needle much but it seems he may have been a good piece in a trade for the Yankees as an add in. I would guess they hoped he would clear waivers...

Didn't want it to be a personal attack?? That's exactly all that post was. There were no facts provided. I'll give you some credit for deleting it. It was childish.

As for Ridings. This was not a Rule 5 claim. He was taken off his 60 day IL on the 10th for the purpose to release him. Mets claimed him off waivers. He wasn't left "unprotected" he was being dumped. Mets are now his 4th organization. His 6 year career in the minors totals are just 71 games and a 4.19 era. He was traded by the Cubs who drafted him. Released by Royals, released by the Yankees. Like I said not a big loss.

There is an article today by Bob Klapisch in the
Star Ledger, he says Yanks gave Rizzo a multi year deals he also believes this will help
get Judge to Stay because they are friends.
As big a fan as they come I don't think that holds much truth. If he really is that way he will
probably go to his hometown. Not go with a friend for 3 years.

Valid observation, but on the other hand, he hasn't really lived in his home town for about a decade.

It didn't stop Freeman from going back home and money wasn't that much different.
That whole situation was a mess. I wonder if Judge is being the ultimate negotiator at this point and is holding out for the most money or if he already knows where he wants to go. He's playing it really well and doesn't seem the type to cry about it later.

Top MLB players are pressured to take top dollar period for the good of the Union. How was Freeman's desire to go back home a mess while getting top dollar?

Ruth 95.13
Williams 93.18
DiMaggio 88.84

And the all-time show stopper:

Clemente 92.68 posthumously
DiMaggio at 88.84% seems the worst of the 4. Actually, who the hell didn't vote for Babe?

Throw in the vote for Clemente was shortly after his death while on a humanitarian mission and I think it's the worst.
All those names should have received 100%. They are not only HOF'ers, they are the true Legends of the sport.

Wasn't there a bunch of articles when he returned to Atlanta for the first time where he was crying in front of the media and they assumed he regretted leaving? Maybe I just read it wrong though. I always thought both offers were close in total money but he got a smidge more to leave and may have regretted it.

Yup. Crying like a little b.

Generally I agree but Rizzo changes his approach with two strikes so I think he will benefit more than the average left handed bat

Judge meeting with SF Giants today with the Yankees offer in his back pocket. Plus a stupid timeline put on it by the Yankees as Cashman said he is on the clock. A deal by Thanksgiving???

Cashman will probably be doing cartwheels if he doesn't sign in NY. He's clearly never wanted to pay the man.

It is crazy to skimp on Judge- even if he only has 5 good years out of the 7-8 he wants- he is worth the money.
Imagine how much it would have cost the Yankees this year without him.
Who becomes the face of the Yankees?

This is my view. With his physical size, he might break down by age 35.

Stanton 2.0 playing 120 games.

San Fran is going to give him the 10 years and stupid money. I honestly don't think the Yankees want to compete with that so he will walk. However, if the Yanks go 9 years, I think they can make things interesting.

I highly doubt the Yankees want to go even 8 years. They have given Judge every signal that they want Judge on their terms not his. When they talk about giving him the Captain roll that says they want a discount. They went to arbitration this year. Judge was at 20 million they were at 18. Smart organizations would just give him his asking price. So embarrassing.

Correct- the smart play at the start of the year would have been, forget arbitration, what do you want to sign you for the next 6/7 years.

Not giving Cano 10-years was a good decision. If SF wants to go stupid, you just got to walk away.

No walking away. Judge is way too valuable to the Yankees.
Pay the man.
There is a limit to every players worth. 10 years is definitely beyond the limit. Yankees don't need their own Bobby Bonilla

He bet on himself and had a monster season he’s in the drivers seat. Yanks could have avoided San Fran $ comp if they paid up.
10 years is a long stretch he might end up being player coach lol

If he stays with the Yankees the possibilities
are unlimited. Why go to that shit hole called
San Francisco.
After 4 years of military service in the Pacfic I stopped by in California Lived in Mt. view and Sunnyvale, worked in the Silicon valley. But visited
San Francisco often, what a Gorgeously wonderful place. Then Armstrong. did his thing
and the space program started to cut back.
Many many people lost their jobs, and had to leave the famous Silicon valley.
So I came back to Joisey. But the hippies put flowers in their hair came to San Fran. The
beginning of the end. So I got married had kids
and took them to Disneyland, then took the long drive to San Fran. The changes were already in play. Unbelievable. Good luck Aaron!
