OT: Nick Saban nearly went to NY Giants last Winter....

Everytime I see something like this, I think no f'ng way that came close to happening, then I remember that someone thought Schiano would be a good NFL coach and hired him, so I guess anything's possible.

I think the only coach i wanted LESS than the fraud the Giants have now was Saban. So glad about this.

I don't understand that....if Saban would have been allowed by ownership to sign Brees in Miami, he might still be there....and Bama might be middle of the pack.

No news here . Giants tried to get him years ago when he was at Michigan state .
Not sure what the Giants are thinking though. Saban is a college guy

Carol also had some success in the NFL before he was at USC. Not great success, but he did have some good years with the Patriots. In 3 seasons there , he to took them to the playoffs twice I believe . I don't think those teams were ever bad under carol . Saban on the other hand , stunk in Miami. Hey, maybe it would be different second time around for nick . But some guys are a better fit for college, some for NFL . And some guys are good at both like harbaugh , jimmy Johnson, Carroll , and even Barry Switzer (yeah I am stretching it with barry but he has championships at both levels).

Saban was 9-7 and 6-10 with Miami. Sure, it wasn't great but it was hardly a disaster. Since then the guy has become a living legend in college. Many NFL coaches don't get it done the first time around (see Bill Belichick). While I don't think he'll go back to pros anyone who wouldn't want him instead an average NFL coordinator is crazy.

Saban's imperious ways are better suited to college.
He doesn't like to be second guessed by anybody, especially reporters. That's why IMO he will always stay at the college level, where he could manipulate a little easier.

As I recall he got off to a bad start at Miami when he insisted players refer to him as "Coach Saban" - nothing like LT calling Bill "Tuna" lol

Not very difficult to understand, in my opinion. He had zero success in the NFL. He's not a good person by all accounts.

Didn't want him.

It is amazing that the Dolphins wouldn't clear Brees medical records for Saban, but was able to get Daunte Culpepper in with his bionic knees.

Saban is a Belichick disciple. He's a douchebag and otherwise crappy human being, but the man CAN coach.
