OT: NY Giants 2021 Season Thread

I’m with ya; I think it’s becoming evident the team is undisciplined on his watch and guys aren’t inspired.

But you know he won’t be fired after 3 games in year 2. Just not something the Giants will ever do. If we have to fire him at the end of the season (which appears to be a strong possibility), that will be two consecutive head coaches who only last 2 years. Bad look and an indictment of the front office. I think this thing rots at the head with the Mara & Tisch families. Our version of the Wilpons.
It’s so bad I thought it was year 3.
How about hiring a coach with head coaching experience this time for one of the premier jobs in the NFL…
Thank God for Gallant, smart experienced hire

Yep, something like Gallant is what’s needed. Speaking of, at least hockey starts soon (first preseason game tonight).

"Kill! Kill! Kill!"

"What's the play? What's the play?"

Garrett shouldn't have made it to the 4th quarter.

I didn't. I went for a hike on the Palisades early in the 3rd.

Martinez likely gone for the year. Slayton and Shepard like gone for a few weeks.

2 horrendous unnecessary roughness penalties that wouldn't get called against most home teams.

Engram with ANOTHER turnover.

This team is competing for the 1st pick in the draft. And while I'm sure I'm in the minority, I think they can trade it for multiple picks because they don't need a QB, just a better team surrounding him.

All Giants needed to do was to get at least one yard on the 2nd down late in the 4t qtr. I thought you run straight ahead when you have less than 2 yards for a first down at the end of the game. Instead they lost a yard and a penalty and eventual loss.

They lost like Rutgers, bad offensive calls and execution when it mattered.
Was the 3rd down play the Saquan run to the outside, where in very Barkley fashion he pulls up and gets dropped for a loss?

Judge is looking more and more like a hot head, who cusses a lot, and not surprisingly leads a very undisciplined team.

Luckily they are already OVER the 2022 salary cap max of $205m.
Gettleman was all-in on 2021 with pushing so much money into 2022 and 2023.

Aside from the draft, this will most likely be the exact same team next year.

Some notable 2022 cap hits:

Leonard Williams - 27.3m
Kenny Golladay - 21.1m (remember when everyone said winning teams don't have high priced WRs? that was fun)
James Bradbury - 20.5m
Adoree Jackson - 15.5m
Daniel Jones - 8.3m (fully guaranteed and the team will have to decide on his 5th year option for 20+m)
Blake Martinez - 14m (out for the year? 5.5m guaranteed)
Kyle Rudolph - 7.5m
Saquan Barkely - 7.2m (fully guaranteed)

Martinez is done for the season. Also with Shep and Slayton dealing with hamstring injuries you know they are gonna be out at least 3 weeks. Somehow this team managed to go backwards even while adding better players in the off-season. I dont see any wins coming anytime soon

Its so much fun knowing the season is over 3 weeks in again. What a total waste of everything this franchise has become. New York in general between the Jets and Giants. Its a total joke.

Adoree Jackson at $15.5 mil? Is he supposed to be good?

Rudolph, who I thought might be a good add, has thus far has been a non entity.

Outside of a miracle playful run I see no way he is back.

Question at this point is, will Judge and Jones be back?

Agree on Gettleman. No way he is back unless a miracle turn-around - if you look at the upcoming schedule, he may be toast by mid-season.

Guessing that with the cap situation, the new GM will likely keep Jones for 2022. Barring a significant "carry the offense" type run by Jones the rest of this season, if the new GM is smart, he should decline the 5th year option for 2023 and ride out Jones in 2022 at ~$8M. Can always try to negotiate with Jones to return during the 2022 season. I would also not draft a QB in the early rounds of the next draft. Instead focus on O-Line and Edge Rush with the potential 2 top 10 picks they will have next draft. Jet's just proved that bringing in a new high draft pick QB every 3 years without fixing other significant issues may not be the best process either as Darnold so far with a change of scenery, is showing to be proficient at leading the Panthers with some talent around him.

I like the plan. By not selecting a QB next year it makes declining the 5th year less of a slight.

I feel like they should just let Jones open things up at this point. The fumbling is an issue, but constraining his talents, and thus constraining his development, in order to limit the short term negative of fumbling? Doesn't make sense at this point. Need to open things up to see if he is worth keeping.

Jones is the only thing on this team I would keep.
I'm not cutting Judge out yet. I was very positive after last year, and I won't turn on him after just 3 games. Plus factor in how quickly we have churned through HC's of late. Assuming we don't completely fall apart from here.

That's fair. I was pretty high on Judge after last year as well. But the team needs to win some games and show some discipline fast. I'm really surprised at how undisciplined we've been. If this season spirals completely out of control, that will be a bad sign.

Giants signing former 2020 1st round pick Isaiah Wilson to the PS. He has quite the rap sheet from the last few months but asked for a mea culpa. He's the guy who committed to Rutgers for a 1 day right? From Brooklyn originally i believe.

Unless Judge takes the reigns and reacts to the immediate need for changes - he's likely toast. Both the offense and defense are playing conservatively - and the team is losing. If Garrett is not getting it done, it's up to Judge to either take control or push him aside and try Kitchens for play calling. As indicated, need to open it up take more risks and test Jones more to see if he is your future. He's shown skills, but how will they translate in the future....ie to a benchwarmer, a mediocre veteran QB, or a guy who can lead a team through adversity. Need to know before paying him or moving on. Defense also seems vanilla/stiff compared to last year. Takaways are down. The pass rush is generally always straight up - with limited use of stunts or blitz packages. No pass rush basically renders the secondary sitting ducks.

After a win he could hang out in Vegas for all I care. After a loss like that sh*t show to a back up quarterback no way do you go on College Gameday laughing and joking smiles galore like nothing just happened.
you do realize this is the year 2021......not 1961....the players are all buddies now and, being with one team your whole career is a rare exception these days...there isn't any loyalty to any one team...just the all mighty buck...it's unfortunate.. i was a youngster in the 60's and, a teen in the 70's....when pro sports wasn't about the biggest contract...and rivalries were heated and intense....the raiders and chiefs, packers bears and the yanks and red sox had a respectful hate for each other .....my mother, may she r.i,p favorite catchphrase was " in todays world"....and, she used this phrase thirty years ago.. imagine what she would say about " todays world".......she would be shocked..i tell ya

The Giants lost to the Atlanta Falcons, not Penn St. I don't see how this applies.

Should be noted this plays both ways. The salary cap, which is certainly not in place because of the players, is as much the cause of frequent player movement as anything.

3 First Downs: 3 runs for 1 yard
Fire Judge and Garrett and get a dam Offensive HC in here. So tired of this crap year after year
Rutgers...Giants...

"Northeast" football is dead.
Coach aggressive.

Wow somehow they win. Daniel Jones with another good game too. Should have had another TD is bonehead Ross didnt fumble into the endzone

Credit where it’s due. Came back from 11 down in the 4th quarter to tie the game, won the toss in OT, and marched right down the field to score a TD and not give New Orleans a chance. Very well done.
