OT: NY Mets 2025 Season Thread

I believe that I had mentioned that while he was with the Padres Soto had a reputation of not being a good team mate and is very self centered. Didn't take long to manifest and this is with the team in first place.

Deshawn Watson level contract. 15 years? LOL.

It is funny- I have seen a few things from Kay since the Soto signing where he just sounds like a jilted lover.

I admit- Soto's lack of hustle at times pisses me off. And he has been like that his whole career. And he is not having the greatest start. But, even with the Yankees- last year, he carried them for the first month and he had a couple of slumps in there as well. Guys his age are usually the back of their baseball card- so, most likely, we see him end up around .280 30 HR 110 runs, 80+ rbi and .400 OBP and we will love him at times and hate him at times.

And I love the fans of the other team who just last year, were claiming they had the two best hitters in baseball and this year, one of those guys suck...
Every player should play like Nimmo.

All the Yanks schills and losers out in full force yet we have a better record than them. Media shi* stirring is what these sports writers and radio guys are best at. If you believe any of these reports I got a bridge to sell you.

Last year, he WAS one of the best hitters in baseball. This year he hasn't been. Any player who is that good and signs a huge contract is gonna be in a microscope forever. It's part of the gig. If he just hustled and didn't dodge reporters, this wouldn't be being talked about right now.

Judge gets it for no playoff production. He doesn't complain about it even though I'm sure it bothers him. Soto needs to act like a leader, it's what he's getting paid for.

Make no mistake. He's being paid to hit. Not lead. If he leads, all the better. But hit. And it's way too early to start making judgments that he WAS a great hitter and no longer is. But so be it. You're on record.

CBS Sports has a column today reporting that several Mets' bat speed times are down this season, with Soto's being the most pronounced.

He'll be fine. Things didn't start out great for Lindor here either.
I had never thought he was the best hitter in baseball or even top 5 but did think he is a very valuable hitter for any team. I do think that 5 years in, we will all be sitting pretty happy with his overall production. He is always going to be a 100+ run 25+ HR guy. But, don't expect consistent .300 BA or 100 RBI. He will have those years too but his game is getting on base and scoring runs. Which is great protection for the guy in front of him because the last thing a pitcher wants to do is put the guy in front of him on base as almost half the time, it means there are two men on base.

and you are right, so many were blasting Lindor in year one.

Even with the bad offense this past week- has anyone actually recognized that over the past month, the Mets are well within the top ten in almost all offensive stats across the board.

Soto sounds like a 15 year old explaining why he didn’t have his homework. Last night’s interview was hilarious.

I never said he wasn't going to start hitting. Stop putting words in my mouth. He'll be fine eventually, but he shouldn't act like a baby when things aren't working out. Not hustling and skipping out on reporters is not a good look. Stop accepting that.

For 765 million you don't think he needs to be a leader? Maybe the next 800 million dollar player can do it instead then. What ridiculously low standards you must have. At that much money, the guy should be mowing the lawn and selling popcorn between innings.

Money doesn't make someone a leader...being good at something doesn't make someone a good leader either.

You wrote, in all caps, that he WAS a good hitter. So he's not a good hitter. No one made you write that nonsense.

Now you're babbling on about his not hustling, which no one didn't recognize. Great pick up.

But still, according to you, he's not a good hitter. Enjoy that opinion aging.

I hope you guys never actually wonder why a Yankee fan comes here to give you a bunch of crap. I've been nothing but respectful here and you're creating some paranoid narrative to fight against.

If you go back to the post I was responding to, yesRU01 was questioning why Yankee fans were bragging about having 2 of the best hitters in baseball. That's because last year....wait for it....Soto WAS one of the best hitters in baseball. Currently, he is not hitting like one of the best hitters in baseball. I never said he wasn't going to hit like one, nor have I ever questioned why the Mets paid so much to get him. I think it was a great pickup for them now and they needed a player of his caliber to promote the team around. I also have never pretended that the Yankees didn't want him.

So respectfully Wills, you can shove it up your butt. Stop spinning your word salad to fight the Evil Empire. There's no reason we can't co-exist here.

Of course money doesn't change people into something they're not. But I'm pretty sure the Mets wanted some leadership out of the guy making three quarter of a billion dollars. He's front billing on all promotional items, he's the focal point of TV broadcasts and he should be the one setting the example for the young kids.

This is how Fredo fans roll. Raging case of inferiority complex.

I had no idea that you were a Yankee fan. You're just someone who wrote something dumb in capital letters. It looks like you did it again. If it's OK, I'm not going to read the rest of it. I'm sure it's brilliant.

Though, even last year- his last couple of months during the regular season he batten about .245 he was hitting some HR's late but he was far from one of the best hitters for a couple of months last year. which shows that he is capable of doing that and still coming back to have a very good year.

The reason I brought it up in the first place is because fans of a team a guy is on and who lose him elsewhere can be very quick to jump on a slump but we all know that guys in their mid/late 20's are usually going to be the back of their BB Card by the end of the season.
Soto didn't all of a sudden become a bad hitter. And I wasn't referring that at you.

As for Yankee fans coming over- blame that on the 3 Amigo's and now the 4th one who is worse then those other 3 combined. Mostly because he really isn't even a clever troller.

LOL you're the troll who loves to post in the Mets thread.
^^^ I rest my case. 😁

FYI - The Monty Whole Foods building is up and steel is going vertical on the next 2 buildings. So cool to finally see this becoming a reality.

A few minutes ago,the telecast showed a picture of HOF'er Jimmie Foxx.
He was the only player to pitch and catch in both leagues-and hit 534 HR while attending to those matters.
After he retired from the game,he had many jobs.He was a beer salesman for a while, going around from bar to bar pushing whatever brewery for which he was working. My father met him at a local pub in East Newark, sometime in the late 40's.

This surprises me a bit. I went to two spring training games this year, one away, one in St. Lucie. At these venues, you're close to the field and teams. By far, the most gregarious guy on the field and in the dugout was Soto. Talking and joking with teammates on the field and near the top step of the dugout talking and joking with a stream of teammates. I wasn't looking for it, but you couldn't miss it. It seemed like his new teammates really liked him. And Judge hugged him the other day.

So I don't know what to make of Kay's comments. I really don't listen to the guy because I don't find myself watching Yankee games.

That said, on the thing that matters, the hustling out of the box needs to get better.
So did I. Both in Port St. Lucie.

Agree with you here. I saw it too. As you said with the access you have in Spring training, especially in Port St. Lucie, you can't miss it.

Maybe that was a honeymoon period during spring training. Getting ready to start the dog days now.
