OT: NY Mets 2025 Season Thread

10 runs in 7 games. Less than 1.5 runs per game in that stretch. You could say that they are fortunate to have gone 2-5 and not 0-7.

They are also fortunate that they play 162.

Hitting coach needs a talking to.
Is Chavez still the hitting coach ?

It’s unfortunate that everyone seems to be In a slump at the same time and the inability to hit with RISP etc.

I’d tinker with changing the lineup and maybe inserting Taylor or Acuna to the 2 hole and moving everyone down so Soto would hit 3rd / Alonso 4th etc.

Hopefully offense gets it together tonight because they will need mucho runs with Megill pitching.

Mets have co-hitting coaches, Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes.

Your proposed lineup change is consistent with traditional conventional thinking, but runs counter to current analytics. Nowadays, 2 is the new 3, 3 is the new 4, and cleanup is no longer a thing.

This was an alleged issue when he was a Padre. Bob Melvin wanted the lineup to be Tatis, Soto and Machado two, three, four in the order. They would go right, left ,right.
Soto told him that he didn't want to do that and wanted only to bat in the two spot. This obviously caused issues in the clubhouse.

Mets are top 5 in basically every batted ball metric as a team like hard hit %, barrel %, exit velocity, etc but yes the production isn't following the process in this slump. It stinks to watch but they'll bounce out of it. RISP has been a problem all season but even then I think it's still too small a sample when we know these guys have a track record of performing better. Barnes already said he thinks as a team they're watching too many fastballs go by and swinging too much at the breaking stuff so it's not like they don't recognize there are some issues. I'm confident in another month this will have been a blip in a long schedule.

. . . I’d tinker with changing the lineup and maybe inserting Taylor or Acuna to the 2 hole and moving everyone down so Soto would hit 3rd / Alonso 4th etc.
. . .
Acuna has a .317 OBP and .630 POS. Those put him around 104th and 146th in MLB.

Taylor has a .296 OBP and .661 OPS. Those put him around 130th and 134th n MLB.

These aren't guys you move to the top of the lineup. They just don't get on base near enough.

Slumps happen, even team slumps. The Mets haven't been hitting since the start of the Pittsburgh series. That's only 10 days so far. They'll work themselves out of it without any panic moves in May.

It is literally the whole team at the same time that is slumping. And for a while, it was the whole team on fire. These things happen during each year with almost every team.
I wouldn't tinker too much and they will come around.

Added another RP prospect in Anthony Nunez. Started at Brooklyn this year and moved to Binghamton 2 weeks ago. He was drafted by the Padres as a hitter in 2019 but wasn't good. After Covid season he went back to college using some little known rule and converted to a P. Since Mets signed him he's been lights out. Has only allowed 1 run this year.

Sproat has been terrible at AAA. Lets hope he can turn it around.

Analytics have ruined the game. The beauty is the chess match between managers and the players. Also analytics can't measure heart, desire, and mental toughness. Last year's run to the NLCS was not based solely analytics. Guys wanted it because they could feel what was possible.

Damn, Mauricio has come in hot...
Well, in AA ball Mauricio hit .117 in 17 ABs. In A ball, he hit .133 in 15 ABs

He since has had two very productive games in AAA, which is good.

I will say that, so far this year, most of the Mets top 10 is performing well, suggesting that the system is becoming better than it was in the past--which it needs to be.

Sproat is really struggling. Tidwell's audition did not go very well either. I would say Tong and McLean have passed both of them.

Damn, Mauricio has come in hot...
Another big game from Mauricio this afternoon in a Syracuse win.

2/2, HR(2), 2 RBI, 2 BB with a SB(2) to boot.

Blackburn still rehabbing and pitched really well. 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K. 2.63 ERA in AAA.

Looks to be running well - good to see. Horrible injury.

Can we one time just try...
1. Lindor
2. Nimmo
3. Soto
4. Alonso

OMG, I was just typing the above but then decided to check if the lineup was available yet. They are actually doing it except Marte is getting that spot and taking over for Nimmo in LF.

Maybe Soto should go for an eye exam?

Possible he needs contacts / glasses etc?

Sick of seeing Bruce Boisclair clone playing RF and hitting like him.

I’d tinker with changing the lineup and maybe inserting Taylor or Acuna to the 2 hole and moving everyone down so Soto would hit 3rd / Alonso 4th etc.
Glad to see Carlos did indeed tinker the lineup in sort of what I thought mixing someone up to the 2 hole.

Fun fact on #8 Elian Pena. He is 17 years old. He has yet to appear in a professional game. He just signed with Boras Corporation.

ESPN did a re-rank of the top 50 prospects after a lot of graduations and Jett Williams now stands at 20 in their list. Jonah Tong was 50.

Pipeline had one graduation on their list so they entered Tong at 100. When they do a real re-rank Tong will surely be higher and McLean will be on it.
