OT: NY Mets Season

Why leave Lame in the Game when he is getting shelled?
I know it worked out, but, if you're not going to use Gsellman, why warm him up? EDIT: OK I get it. Gsellman is the closer tonight. They might have used him for a four out save, but once Rhame gave up the lead, they sat him down.

He just throws roster fill-ins out there in key spots like these games are meaningless.
What else was he going to do? The problem is that his bullpen is populated with roster fill-ins.

When you play two the day before, get two innings out of your starter in the second game, then three innings out of your starter tonight... and your pen isn't that good to begin with... you don't have a lot of good options.

If only Robles could pitch every day.[winking]

Maybe save the more experienced guys for the tight late game situations and take a risk on the youngsters being able to get you there. Surely he's not making the right call much these days.

THE CURSE OF BERNIE MADOFF AND JOSE REYES... It's to the point where the Mets can have a 15-1 lead and you know they're going to lose.

I should be on the DL for giving the Mets the finger every day for the last month.

The Mets bullpen have 11 Blown Saves. They would be in first place if you cut that in half.

This is what happens when you go cheap on players.

Those who say Fire Mickey I hope they mean Alderson too. Managers look like geniuses with better players around them.

Alderson needs to go, pitcher from minor leagues we bring up that JP kid. Yuck.
Please call back Omar from Latin America scouting, and get him to right the ship. Also, give Bobby V a call, this team doesn't need the manager blowing kisses, they need some tough love. I liked it better when Bobby V had the whole league hating us. Now they love us,lol.

While yesterday's loss was painful, the Mets showed a lot of mettle playing with a depleted roster and scoring 6 runs. Unfortunately, the bullpen is the weak link, which may now be surpassed by starting pitching, which is heavily depleted due to injuries. The suggestion that the players on the field last night need to be "better" seems a bit off base. Maybe that applies to pitching, in particular the bull pen.
The shame of it all is the Mets can never seem to put up more than 1 or 2 runs when de Grom pitches.

Maybe it was an old burial ground...
Or the baseball gods are saying SELL THE TEAM!!!

Mets bullpen makes a line change:

IN:
  • Tim Peterson (as reported by Knight Shift)- 27 year old rookie, former 20th round pick in 2012. You won't find him on any Met top prospect lists. These are guys I find myself rooting for, but I'm not sure that they are guys who win you championships.
  • Buddy Baumann - 30 year old journeyman LOOGY who will hopefully lower his Met ERA of 19.29.
  • Scott Copeland - another 30 year old journeyman whose MLB experience consists of five games for the Jays in 2015.
OUT:
  • Jacob Rhame - optioned to Vegas. He'll be back eventually.
  • Phillip Evans - ditto and ditto.
  • P.J. Conlon - DFA'd (he had previously been optioned but now he's bye-bye).
SO... Mets are now going with a 14 man staff - nine man bullpen and three man bench. I wonder if that's a first.

Vargas, for once, was pitching a gem. Mickey Mouse pulls him after 5 innings and 65 pitches. Brilliant!!!

Vargas has not been stretched out on pitch counts yet this year. Honestly good for his psyche not giving up a run. Although Peterson give up a HR, I like what I see.
