OT: NY Mets Season

Do you guys really think getting rid of Gonzalez is a bad move or you're trolling?

Not to be mean but if you think this is a bad move you know nothing of baseball these days.
Thanks, Dad.
My point is that others were more deserving of getting cut or sent to minors. Reyes (cough, cough)
Bring up the youngsters and let them develop.

Yes Reyes should have been out of here months ago also. Another one who had no business being on opening day roster.

Sandy is so lost either. Reading his quotes from today makes me vomit.

Be consistent man. You suggested earlier in the thread to play Bruce or Battista at first and now you say bring up the youngsters and let them develop. Well Smith is 22.

No inconsistency.
When Cespedes is back, OF should be Cespedes, Conforto and Nimmo. Sub in Bautista and Bruce as needed. Platoon Bruce and Smith at 1B. Bruce is lost in the OF. He had a fairly good game tonight until he missed a not so difficult fly ball.
If Smith is playing better than Bruce, then Bruce can sit.

Flores will be back soon. I'd sooner platoon him and Smith. Want something out of Bruce? Have somebody hypnotize him and tell him it's a contract year again. Right now it's nothing but the 2016 post-trade Bruce.

Obviously the Wilpons Stink and Alderson needs to go. With that said can someone tell me why our hitting coach still has a job? Man should be embarrassed collecting a paycheck

Good point. It is difficult to separate out and make a workable lineup in the pile of poop that is the Mets roster.
Apparently the thing keeping Reyes around is lack of infielder talent? With either or both Cabrera or Frazier hurt, Reyes is needed. Now Ty Kelly is available. We will see if he is an upgrade.

I have been consistent but there is a difference between when the year began and where we are now. Ideally I'd have Alonso at first Conforto, Nimmo, Ces or Bruce in OF. McNeil over Reyes. And some other things.

I miss when we had people who could hit like Soup
Are we talking about the same Eric Campbell? He of the lifetime .221 average and .622 OPS? Our problem is that we have a whole team full of guys who hit like that.

All I know that it is AMAZIN that the Brewers have acted like a Big Market Club after acquiring Lorenzo Cain, Christian Yelich, and others who have helped them to be 40-27 while the Mets have acted like a Wisconsin team by acquiring Gonzalez, Frazier, Bruce, Ramos, etc.

And yet, there are still those who think the Madoff situation doesn't impact this franchise, unreal. Sell the team please, Coupons, please.

Not amazin at all. It's actually very explainable. The Brewskis had a tiny opening day 2017 payroll of $60M. With revenue sharing and all, they had room to significantly increase their payroll, which they did. Their opening day payroll for 2018 was $93M, which is still quite low.

The Mets on the other hand started from a much higher base. They opened 2017 at $154M. The Wilpons made it clear to Alderson that they were holding the line for 2018. Which they did, with an opening 2018 payroll of $150M.

The notion that the Wilpons are cheap is a misconception. At least the pre-Madoff Wilpons were not. From 2000 to 2011, the Mets payroll always ranked in the top 20% - at high as 2nd and never lower than 6th. Every year. Then they went on an austerity budget, which coincides with Alderson's arrival. They thought he could play winning Moneyball, and over the short term he did. But the long term outlook is bleak as we all know.

I agree with the poster that the Wilpons have not yet put the Madoff fiasco behind them.

What a shame. We do have pieces though but no creativity! Sandy blows because of the wilpons but we still shouldn't be this bad!

Met fans need to do what Giant fans did in the late 70's.....mass burning of tickets; fans wearing bags over their faces; don't show up for games...show outrage and force these pathetic owners to sell and Alderson to retire / resign.
